Don't Judge a Book By its Cover
This was once an award-winning, custom-built museum building. However, it now shows the results of neglect and war. However, the staff does an amazing job keeping the exhibits current and fascinating. It's really an excellent museum with a great deal of information. The exhibits about World War II and the Dayton Peace Plan were m favorites but there were so many other spaces in the museum that really make me want to go back to make sure that I take the time to read everything. Don't miss the static exhibits in the back. There are some old guns and military vehicles which are in terrible shape but are worth a peek.

    National Museum's forgotten little brother
The building looks decaying and the museum is smaller than expected (three floors, each not being very large). However, it still contains some interesting stuff and can be worth checking out. Some of the displays are not in English, and the whole place seemed deserted (I was pretty much the only one inside during my time there). It's a shame, you can still learn a decent amount about Bosnia's recent history here.

perfect space for the beautiful exhibition Sound Lifeline
The space itself is fascinating: it is in itself a museum of what happened 30 years ago. 2 good that it remains so, with open wounds in a living, open public space. The ideal space for the extraordinary Sound Lifeline exhibition: a perfect example of a site-specific exhibition and installation.

    Impressive history museum
Impressive example of a modern history museum (compared to the rest of Sarajevos museums) with excellent exhibitions on Gastarbeiter, migration and different narratives in history. All exhibitions displayed a high scientific and aesthetic standard in cooperation with well known research institutions. Visit highly reccomended (Price: 7 BAM for students)

    Appearances can be deceiving
From the outside this is a crumbling ugly building. However on the inside there are 2 riveting exhibitions. The first is commemorating the siege of the city. Some horrific pictures of adults and children who had been killed by snipers. The second highlighted the little known fact of the killing of gypsys as part of the Holocaust. Well worth a visit.

We expected to get a good overview of BiH history and emphasis on topics related to the war. Unfortunately the museum was a collection of occasional small exhibitions, with several of them lacking English language. Overall quality of the exhibitions was poor and outside exhibition together with the exterior was left without maintenance. Only highlight was a photo exhibition of buildings that were destroyed in the war and later reconstructed. We strongly suggest the national museum instead.

This museum should be called The Siege of Sarajevo Museum. It’s the only topic they cover and they do a very good job of it.

We went here expecting a history of the country, however, and were disappointed. We had been to other museums covering the Siege and the war and weren’t that interested in seeing more on the subject. It’s a shame that there’s no museum dedicated to the history of the country.

The guy on reception was so unbelievably rude. First he left me stood there for 5 minutes and completely ignored me, then the admission was 7 marks and he said he didn't have any change from 20 marks, which I don't believe for a second. So, I never went in. Museum looks like a dump from the outside, go to the history museum next door it's good and don't waste your time with this.

Very interesting about the siege of Sarajevo. There is also a heartbreaking video with refugees from Bosnia in one of the rooms. The fact that the museum is situated just at the Sniper alley ads to the experience. Very friendly staff too.

The museum holds a permanent exhibition "Sarajevo under siege" which is nice and informative but even better if someone local can show you around and tell a bit more and personal. Several other photos exhibitions as well, including the "Sarajevo, 15 years later" by Jim Marshall. A small souvenir shop is available as well.

Simple, but great if you want to understand a little bit from what happened in the city, the siege and everything. Simply the truth about what happened there with data and facts. Just 5 km, which is around 2,5 euros. I loved the experience. And It's open!!! There's a lot of people saying on internet that it's not open, but it is. Check their web site for the timetable.

Proof of the great spirit in Sarajevo, incredible resourcefulness of the Bosnian people! As said exterior is discreet but content is a major. Essential when you are in Sarajevo.

This museum is out near the former Olympics Holiday Inn, the same hotel that served as the headquarters for foreign media during the Siege of Sarajevo. It is also right next to the closed National Museum. This approach tells the casual visitor there have been problems in Sarajevo recently.

A visit to the Sarajevo History Museum will tell you exactly what those problems are and that they have been experiencing modern conflict since the Austro-Hungarians invaded in the 19th century.

Upstairs is divided into the First World War and the Siege of Sarajevo. The Siege section gives insight into what depravity Sarajevans were subjected to during the longest siege in the modern era. You get a feel for the resiliency of the people in the face of such hardship.

There's also a section on the war criminals and their (on)going trials in The Hague. There's a small gift shop in the lobby where you can buy some clever souvenir coffee mugs, cards, jewelry, and other items.
