This museum has many interesting artifacts as well as information about the Jews of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It's also the first and oldest synagogue in Sarajevo and was built in the 16th century. I would definitely highly recommend this place to anyone who is interested in the Jewish history of Sarajevo as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Museum of the Jews of Bosnia and Herzegovina shows the history of the Jewish inhabitants of the region. The museum is housed in an old building in the old town. The entrance fee is 3 KM, it is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 16:00 and on Sundays from 10:00 to 13:00. Photography is prohibited inside the museum, which should be accepted.

This museum is excellent and the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about their work. The museum houses tons of interesting pieces of history of the local Jewish community and gives great detail about some of the local community members. The building is beautiful. It is a very valuable experience for both adults and children.

My favourite museum in the city, not just a musem a living monument to an extraordinary community whose story underpins the multicultural diversity and tolerance that is part of the fabric of this city. Ask Edo Mesic to give you a tour of this small perfect museum. He will unpack the fascinating and moving history of this place. Thanks Edo!

A small museum housed in the architecturally beautiful Sephardic synagogue that is the Balkans' oldest. The exhibits don't appear to have been updated since the break-up of Yugoslavia so there is a heavy emphasis on 20th C. Jewish involvement in socialist movements but no reference to the impact of Zionism on Bosnia's Jew. Thus, in the museum is its own museum. Helpful and knowledgeable caretaker.

This museum has a small amount of information panels and artefacts in the courtyard, however, where the history and the magic is, is inside. This museum is frankly stunning. Three levels of history showcased in information panels, displays, photos and artefacts.

This museum shows the life and historical aspects of the group of Sephardic Jews arrived from Spain and Portugal after their expulsion in the XV century. Most of them contributed to the preservation of Ladino language and Sephardic traditions. Unfortunately, the community synagogue was destroyed twice and only Ashkenazi synagogue survived until our days.

Our wonderful guide Ansar took us to the National Museum where we saw the Sarajevo Haggadah which was originally rescued from Barcelona during the Spanish Inquisition. No space for its long history but it has been preserved in Sarajevo during two World Wars and the Siege of Sarajevo. The museum is filled with other interesting things.

This is a very nice museum settled in an old sepharadic synagogue. The temple itself is very nice. You will learn a lot about the Jewish life and history in Sarajevo. There is a sad section about the Jewish fate during WWII but also about the resistance, a fact which makes proud every visitor.Worth visiting!

Located in the first and oldest synagogue in Sarajevo is this museum of Jewish history in the Balkans. Much of the synagogue has been given over to exhibition space, but a large area is dedicated to what would’ve been the congressional area of the Ark, the almemar and benches used by worshippers. It’s actually quite beautiful and eerie to view the area. The almemar is a dark stained pulpit with lovingly carved Jewish motifs. The rest of the museum is arranged over three floors with exhibits and artefacts showcasing Jewish items, some of which are very personal. The third floor covers the tragedy of the holocaust and the destruction of their heritage in the Balkans.
