About Insider City Tours & Excursions
When we first started providing guiding services in Sarajevo in 2000, there were just a few of us. We were full of enthusiasm, creative ideas and ready to work hard, apply effort and learn. With the passage of time some of us went on different paths, finding different business spheres, but those who stayed, they stayed completely the same - creative, professional and dedicated to something they like. Actually, today we are 15 years older and during the time, we hope that we have gained more experience and become smarter which is not insignificant. All of these years brought us a lot of friendships, business contacts, meeting with many important people and delegations. We can proudly say that any important event in Sarajevo during the last decade wasn't without us. We just want it to be the same. We want our guests to become and remain our friends, to visit us again, and once they leave our city or country they should take away with themselves only positive memories. The mission of Insider is satisfied guest and visitor and in order to fulfill this we will give our best to meet the expectations and even more of any guest who decides to give us their time. We guarantee that with the Insiders you will always get more than you'd expect.

I had the most interesting tour led by Riyadh -- the consummate tour guide, full of information and personal knowledge of the Tunnel. His family is from the city and lived through the Siege of Sarajevo. In fact, Riyadh was born during the siege!! He was able to relate the struggle of the city's civilians on such a personal level -- it really brought the whole experience to life for me. Never rushing our pace, patiently answering the many questions, and a thorough depth of knowledge about the Tunnel and surrounding events made Riyadh the perfect guide for the Tunnel of Hope tour!

I just had the best walking tour EVER!! Merriam (hope I spelled that right) was the perfect tour guide...because she didn't come across as a tour guide!?! It was more like I was visiting a long-time friend in their home town. We didn't rush around, ticking off sites on a checklist -- rather, we wandered slowly, Merriam taking cues about my interests to key in on where to go next, how long to stay at any given place, and how in depth to explain each place. Logistically, Insider City Tours runs a smooth operation. Booking was simple, directions for meeting time and place were clearly provided, and all the staff were quite friendly. I recommend them highly! Most importantly, I made sure to guzzle about a liter of water at one of the Old Town's many fountains -- a magical measure to ensure I will someday return to beautiful Sarajevo and the new friends I met there!!!

Some of the best things in life just come by an accident. Our group were looking for a specific museum in Sarajevo, which happened to be closed even before the Covid pandemic situation. We went to another museum instead and in front of the museum we met professional, young, enthusiastic and positive people in Sarajevo insider tours office! They were so genuinely happy to see tourists that they even requested and took a selfy with us. To be honest, among many great experiences in Sarajevo this will stand as one of the most memorable. Of course, their customer service was excellent - great english and communication skills, genuine interest in customer's needs and many tours to choose from at decent prices. The tour we booked also was fantastic - well organised, punctual and a pleasant experience in general.

A very thought provoking and insightful tour with a veteran of the war, who not only witnessed the events of 1,425 days of siege, but lived and endured each one. If you want to gain a better understanding of the reasons for the war, the rationale for the siege, as well as something of what it was like for the inhabitants this is an excellent way to begin. Our guide started with an overview of the city from the Yellow Fort, then through the city centre, the flash points, "sniper alley" and front lines, to the remaining stretch of the hand dug Tunnel under the airport runway that was the only logistical supply line for much of the siege, all the while explaining what it was like for the inhabitants as they tried to live as best they could under the deprevations of war, without running water, electricity or proper medical facilities. The Tunnel area includes a video presentation of its construction and use as well as an exhibit of original articles, many improvised, that were used to dig it and others from the period that demonstrate life for the city inhabitants.

A memorable day to mark an event that I remember from afar, but never really understood. The media at the time called it the worst massacre on European soil since WWII. Even now, having talked to survivors of the Srebrenica genocide during my visit, just children at the time, it is still hard to take on board what happened during those fateful days of July 1995. Nor indeed why. Today, it seems to me, Bosnia and Herzegovina are moving on towards a challenging, yet brighter, new era among the nations of Europe. This tour amply demonstrated the complications and perils of Balkan history after the collapse of Yugoslavia, coupled with the hope that lessons will be finally learnt. A haunting day out, led by a marvellously knowledgeable guide.
