Being a mature couple, we booked a seven day, private, tour of Albania through the travel company Choose Balkans. We visited: Shkodra, Theth National Park, Berat, Gjirokastra, Blue Eye, Butrint, Ksamil and the Albanian Riviera. Then Himare, Dhermi Llogara National Park, Vlore and Durres before returning to Tirana.

This was a jam-packed tour, but our extraordinarily knowledgeable guide, Daniel, adjusted the schedule to fit our personal circumstances, our meal preferences and even scheduled an afternoon rest before more exploring most days. He was ALWAYS available to us via WhatsApp and so responsive to all of our requests.

The absolute icing on the cake was the beautifully comfortable EV that Choose Balkans provided for our tour. Sustainability is important to us and, along with most of Albania's power generated by hydro, it was pleasing to see this expression of Choose Balkans' sustainability values.

I cannot recommend this "Pearls of Albania" tour more highly! Tourism is rapidly growing in Albania and I also recommend you visit soon, before the big tour buses completely dominate the glorious countryside.

Great planning and phenomenal experience

What an amazing experience (3 Day Hiking Tour of Valbona and Theth) . Sarah was excellent. She was responsive and full of information! The rest of the staff as well as the hike guides were awesome and happy to have us. Everybody we were in contact with/met made us feel at home. The hike/adventure itself was spectacular. The first day is a long day of travel but it is worth every second. It culminated with a stunning 2 hour boat ride into Valbona Valley and the scenery was out of this world. The food at the guest house in Valbona was some of the best I've every had (it is so fresh!) and the views out the window in the morning is awe inspiring. We departed for the hike the next morning - we weren't sure how much water to carry but our guide explained everything perfectly. There are a number of water stops built into the hike so no worries there (we drank the water straight from the mountain streams). The hike it a full day but it is not very difficult. Just pay attention to where you step in some places. The 3rd day in Theth was also wonderful and Theth is extremely picturesque. The road home was an adventure in and of itself. All in all, wonderful experience and every detail was worked out and perfectly coordinated. Would do again for sure!

I have booked two tours and one accommodation with Choose Balkans agency between 19th-22nd July 2022.

The booking and the reception were done professionally by two staff, Sirma and Brikena, they were very helpful and informative before, during, and after the bookings, they’re active on WhatsApp which makes the whole process easier and faster.

The tours were “Day Tour of Berat from Tirana” with the tour guide Dritan and “Hiking tour of Komani Lake, Valbona Valley & Theth in three days” with the tour guide Egli, both guides were friendly and kind to me.

I really enjoyed the tours, especially the 3 days tour, in which the nature is breathtaking, Lakes, rivers, valleys, and mountains are majestic, it was the best travel experience I ever had. I highly recommend dealing with Choose Balkans agency.

My spouse and I just returned from a wonderful trip — the “Tour from Athens to Dubrovnik or Split: 7 Balkan countries in 14 days.” Our guide, Toni, performed masterfully as driver, interpreter, and expert on the turbulent but fascinating history of the peoples that shaped this often-overlooked region. We climbed over the remains of fortresses, churches, and ancient towns dating back to pre-Roman days, and we were captivated at every stop by the warmth of the local people and their delectable cuisine and lifestyle. Sometimes humbling, sometimes tragic, but always fascinating, the Balkans offers so much. This tour featured a fast-paced itinerary and lots of walking, but Toni tailored each day’s activities to our interests. Choose Balkans was eager to please, and we treasure the memories from this unique experience.

Worst value for money

I have booked a 4 day hiking tour in Albania with this agency and i must say its the worst possible idea in terms of value for money.

Basically, the 4 day hiking tour consisted of a much larger period on the road than hiking. They leverage public or hotel transportation to make it cheaper on their end and there were days when the full program was just “travelling” from one place to another. Given I was bored on some of the places, I tried to look for a hike myself only to be confronted by the guide, who insisted to come together to then say he didn’t know the area (despite the agency claims of a professional guide) and he said I couldn’t be there. His alternative was to offer a game of cards by the hotel (after this he came back to lie down by a river).

I also paid a supplement for a 1 person tour. To my surprise, there wasn’t a single trip that I did alone - they basically charged me for the full trip and then added people to my transportation so they would gain twice (I did stay on single rooms which were costing around 30 to 40 euros a night, while the non individual one was cheaper - but the supplement was around 500 euros)

When I asked for the surcharge back, they told me this was so I could book and guarantee the booking before a group was formed which doesn’t make any sense.

Basically, just look for a tour elsewhere. Albania is a beautiful country and you can find much better tours on other places. This really gives a feeling of a scam, they make a massive margin on a very simple and basic program that consists on very little effort from their end.

Splendors of northern albania

We took the trip "Splendors of Northern Albania in 4 days" with our private tour guide Ilir, who was a very heartwarming person. He's very passioned about the culture, history and geography about the places he took us. We got to learn more than we would've if we went without a guide. This will make your experience of the surroundings a lot more in depth.
We highly recommend this tour because you'll have a different look about the environment.
If you are lucky enough to have the same guide as us, you will most definitely be having an amazing time.

An excellent way to discover the Southwestern Balkans

Choose Balkans guides were exceptional, not only adaptable when facing a number of complicated challenges (weather, traffic, unexpected museum closures, difficult travellers) but also very willing and open to answering any and all questions about the culture and history of Albania and the surrounding region, past and present. Kudos to Armand, Gjergj and Sirma for their vast knowledge and to their friendliness and openness to allow visitors to discover amazing places. One warning: They are a tad ambitious in the number of sites they aim to see in one day, so get ready for a LONG day and wear sturdy shoes or boots for walking/hiking! I am so glad I was able to discover Tiranë, Durrës, Lake Ohrid, Prizren and Prishtina with them!

Wonderful tour operator in the Balkans!

My friend and I did an 8 day tour of Albania, North Macedonia, Kosovo & Montenegro. We could not have been more pleased with the attentiveness of our tour guide and of all the people I dealt with at Choose Balkans. Because we were the only 2 people on the tour they were very helpful about customizing our trip to see sights we were particularly interested in. They always responded promptly to any emails I sent. When we arrived inTirana, a representative from Choose Balkans greeted us at our hotel. Our guide, Armand was the best. He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. We were sad to see it end. If you are interested in seeing the Balkans, Choose Balkans is a wonderful company to work with. I would highly recommend them and hope to tour with them again.

Works OK but not licensed guiding

We did a 3-day culture/history tour with Choose Balkans (Kruja, Berat and Dürres) and it was OK. The administration was smooth, all tours happened more or less as scheduled, etc. However, we strongly suspect that our guide - while very accommodating- was NOT licensed (or if he was, he must have forgotten most of his training), and this really affected the tour quality. We got very little historical information about the cities we visited, he couldn't answer many of our history/politics/culture questions and sometimes even made up answers that on later googling turned out to be completely false (which of course made it hard to trust all other answers). Going back I wish we would have chosen another operator and hopefully gotten to learn more about Albania during our visit.

Roof Top Tirana ( the best rooms to book in Tirana)

From the moment I called and booked a room in Tirane I felt so comfortable and they made sure I got what I wanted. The personnel was great from the receptionist to the cleaning lady. Room was so clean, great parking garage which was very important for me. I asked for Albanian traditional restaurant and they recommended a great place for me. I felt safe and I will recommend Roof Top Tirana to anyone.
