Tirana’s newest and largest Mosque, also known as the Namazgah Mosque, this is a seriously impressive structure. Islam is the most commonly practiced religion in Albania and after a period of communist rule there were only 8 mosques left in Tirana. Still under construction, it is expected to be large enough for 5,000 worshipers inside and another 5,000 outside in the compound. When completed, it will be the largest Mosque in the Balkans. It’s interesting to see both the ancient Ethem Bey Mosque and the modern, colossal Namazgah Mosque within 5 minutes walk of each other. When we visited in July ’19 it looked to be almost complete. Even if you still can't go inside it’s definitely worth a look if you’re in the centre of Tirana.

The Great Mosque of Tirana is the newly built, not finished yet Mosque in Albanian capital. You'll find it on Google maps under the name Namazgjah Mosque.
Bear in mind this is not the oldest Mosque of Ethem Bey (which is currently under renovation also) on the Skenderbeg sq, as I see some travelers are confusing them here on TA.
The Namazgjah Mosque is currently being built, it's mostly finished but still fenced and you cannot approach it. When finished it will be the largest one in Balkans.
It rises close to the Parliament and Tanners bridge.

Known as the Grand Mosque of Tirana, its other name is the Namazgah Mosque. After Communist rule ended there were only eight mosques in the country. This one will be, once finished, the main mosque in the city, holding 5,000 worshipers plus other facilities like a cafeteria, a library and a conference center. It looks very impressive.

Namazgah Mosque. The great new mosque of Tirana, still under construction but it will be the greatest mosque in the whole balkan area. It is located near the heart of Tirana, close to the old ottoman bridge, it marks the Islamic Ottoman heritage of the Albanian people.

This is a huge and impressive mosque right in the centre of Tirana. It is still being built and it is not yet possible to venture inside. The building is beautiful and I’ve no doubt the interior will be equally impressive when it’s finally finished.

Financed by the Turkish government in the middle of town a brand new mosque is taking shape. Initially the authorities seem to have been hesitant to allow the construction. Only Eastern Orthodox and Catholics got permits to build their new cathedrals.

However, Islam is the most common religion in Albania with about 56 to 60% of the population adhering to it. The nearby Et'hem Bey mosque on Skanderbeg square only has a capacity of about 60 people which means that during Friday prayers most believers are exposed to rain and wind outside on the square. This situation will end with the opening of the new big sized mosque (capacity 4,500 people).

Still mostly behind construction fences, but worth taking snaps of for the intriguing design - mosques almost always being more interesting and photogenic than Christian churches in my opinion.

We walked by and was impressed by its beauty. The only pity is that it was under construction, so we didn't really get to look at it up close or go inside.

The mosque has a choice location in central Tirana. It is large and imposing. Unfortunately, I can see nothing distinctive in the architecture. It looks like many other mosques funded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

I was walking in this street when I saw this impressing building and was thinking what is this and was walking in a street to go in for a look. Then a guard stopping me and said You cant walk in here sir. I say can I take photo. No sir. So after a photo of something other inside there I say goodbye and we ended as friend. From the outside I could have some photo memory and after posting it on another page one friend say he think its a mosque build by Tyrkia but he could not say that for 100 prosent sure. The history will one day tell us who this are for. Its still under building process.
