Sunday Mass time is 8am, no later masses. Vigil mass at 6pm on Saturday evening. Doors stayed open, no one wears masks, air conditioners running to keep things cool. The choir is so beautiful and there was a very talented violinist who added to the beauty. I didn’t understand a word the priest was saying (French) but the way he delivered his sermon was captivating. Just going for the choir was worth it.

One of the most significant symbols of the nation, the Notre Dame Cathedral stood the test of time from its completion in 1345, but not without modifications and restoration through the centuries.

The cathedral is famous for its colossal ancient organ, the colorful rose windows, the sculptures, the flying buttresses, the gargoyles, and its bells among others. It also secures important relics such as the Crown of Thorns and the nail of the true cross. Another noteworthy feature is the Archaeological Crypt.

Entrance is FREE but prepare to fall in line. Don’t be intimidated by the long queue, though, because it moves fast. You can also climb up its towers for a great view.

This church is above all a symbol of French Polynesia's culture and society. The depiction of religion using local themes and pictures give the visitor a good introduction to Tahiti and its people, its history and its modern reality. Homeless people use the church's grounds to sleep, but this shouldn't discourage you to visit inside the building..

We arrived during the Holiday Season so the church was decorated for Christmas. This is a small Cathedral Church located right in the heart of town and just a short walk from the cruise ship dock. Unfortunately, there seemed to be several homeless individuals who were lying on the pews. Very sad.

Just a short walk fron the Municipal Market sits this delightful little church. Not sure I think of it as a cathedral as, in my mind, those are bigger buildings. Nevertheless, the architecture is delightful, the stained glass beautiful and the people friendly. Wife and I sat for about a half hour soaking it all in.

This church is very endearing. Nothing special, just the location is fabulous, the view from far is unmistakable.
If you can, just go there for 6pm for mass. Or sometimes around 5 you can catch a local gospel rehearsal. Magic....
or maybe it's just me because it embodies my whole childhood...

Stepping into this lovely old cathedral was a step back in time, cool and quiet. Built in 1867 it retains the ambiance of many masses celebrated here. There is some recent artwork here as well. A mosaic of Jesus has thousands of tesserae to create a soulful face. The fairly recent Way of the Cross depictions reflect the indigenous population as well. This is a peaceful spot to step away from the heat and busy streets.

We walked by this church a couple of times but unfortunately didn’t go in.
From the outside it is quite attractive and an interesting juxtaposition from the world around it.

Seems small for a cathedral. Very well kept building for it's age. I think it was built in the late 1800's. Beautiful stained glass.
