FANTASTIC experience! I highly recommend a private tour with William & his son Johnny . They were the perfect guides for the grand circle tour around Tahiti. Both were fluent in English and French. The big bonus was taking the boat ( optional) to see the big waves at Teahupo'o. He personally knew the boat captain who made space for us on his boat. The thrill of a lifetime! God was smiling on me when I disembarked from my cruise ship and caused my path to cross with William.
Most passengers were going to the Intercontinental to relax before the late night flight back to LAX, but I didn't want to waste time sitting by a pool. ( not to mention the day pass to the hotel was super expensive) We saw the fern grotto, the waterfall, and gorgeous scenery. A local restaurant with a sand floor on the ocean was the perfect lunch spot.
William is also a talented singer and kept us quite entertained in his comfortable air-conditioned van. Whether traveling alone, or in a group , William will take good care of you. He dropped us at the airport at 4 with time to clean up before the flight. What a day!! Thanks again William and Johnny, and may God bless you always!

William was very prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. He speaks excellent English and French. We were able to visit several of the highlights of the northern part of the Island of Tahiti. We learned the history, background, and current activities of the places we visited. William had a good sense of humor, as well as a great knowledge of the sites and of the island. We would highly recommend William as a guide for couples or families.

When the Ocean Princess docked in Papeete (Jan. 18) we needed something to do for the day. Sure, the market was good and the pearls were nice but we wanted to see the lengendary island. The Tourist information center offered a reasonably priced Grand Circle Island Tour (4 hrs,) with Papeete native, William Leeteg, (eagletourguide @gmail.com), as he describes himself, "a friendly english speaking tour guide," who dispenses advice with a no-nonsense approach to life. In our 72 mile drive, 3 couples, got to see Gaughin's Museum, (lots of stray dogs and cats), the Blow Hole, (complete with surfers,) a hike to spetacular mountain falls and the caves. Our A/C van was comfortable. William was a delight. Be sure to book him!

This company gets a one. Only a one. Perhaps it should be less, but we enjoyed our guide who did the best she could under the circumstances.
We had two deaths in the family and I had done nothing in preparing for this trip. When the organizer from our ship said that she had a great trip planned and two had cancelled we joined on.
She said she had been in communication with William for some time and had two small vans for our trip. Since we don't usually do big buses this sounded good.
We stood on the pier early and waited, and waited. Finally a young man arrived, but no sign of the buses. He promised they would be here and collected our money. After a time he led us down the street to an old bus. But...where are the vans? No one knows. William is on another tour and they say they cannot reach him. Our guide gets on and she looks confused when we tell her our story...but she is only the guide and now the fellow who took the money is gone and William can't be reached.
The bus has no PA system but we are one of the lucky ones near the front who can hear her. At one point she moves further down the bus, but those in the back still can't hear all the interesting things she has to say.
We decide we are on the bus, our money collector is gone so we shall enjoy the day.....but....we said we would make sure that others know about what had happened.
Tourists beware.

We are just back from our cruise and we did the 1/2 day island tour with William. I wish I could recommend him, but he failed to deliver what he promised in a number of ways. He seemed to a good reputation and that is why I booked with him but...
We were all very disappointed that instead of the two buses for eight passengers each that I had booked, we were loaded into a large school bus. This is not what had been negotiated.
What had been organised by email:
2 small air-conditioned buses for our group to be waiting for us on the dock
Tour to begin at 1.30pm (4 hour tour)
To be able to easily hear tour guide/driver
To see the Venus Point lighthouse during the tour
What we got:
One large school bus with other passengers included.
Tour began at 2pm and concluded at 6.30pm (5 and 1/2 hour tour) - some of our group had made plans on board the ship for 6pm and not only were they late, they had no time to change and shower etc.
There was no microphone for the guide to use on the large bus - this made it very difficult for both passengers and the tour guide.
We did not have time to visit the Venus Point lighthouse.
I chose this company over Maramar Tours as I had read on Trip Advisor that this exact same thing had happened to people booking Maramar tours and when I contacted MT they could not promise me that it would not happen to us. William was happy to promise the 2 small buses so I gladly went with him and there had never been any mention on TA that his company included small pre-booked groups on a larger tourist bus.
Our driver was fantastic - good, safe driver and very helpful. Our guide was good I'm sure - just too difficult to hear what she had to share - and too difficult for her to keep shouting all day.
And....the worst part was when we found the sign with our names on it at the port, we could not see our two small buses anywhere so before we paid our money we asked (twice) "We are getting 2 buses, right?" And both times told "yes". We paid.... and then we were herded around the corner onto the big bus with passengers already on! Not happy, but we either missed out on the tour or accepted the bigger bus.
So just be warned.

We arrived in Papeete, Tahiti on October 11 on the Celebrity Solstice. Another cruiser arranged a four hour round the island tour of Tahiti with William for 16 cruisers in two small airconditioned busses with 8 passengers each. His web site suggests his tour would miss the crowds at the popular tourist spots. The tour was supposed to start at 1:30PM. Most of our group was ready at 1PM. When we arrived off the boat, a young man saying he was William's son assured us that the two small busses would be by shortly. This was a lie. However, while waiting, he continued to sell tickets on the tour, when we thought the tour was fully booked. Well at 2PM, we were walked to a "old" school bus with about 40 seats that lacked airconditioning. The bus also lacked a sound system so the guide was incomprehensable for those in the back half of the bus. We later learned that the Tahitian schools close at noon on Friday, our arrival day. This I believe explains the late arrival of the bus. One site listed in the tour in William's E-mail to the organizer was omitted.
The guide was knowledgeable and the driver was did a great job. Fortunately, we sat near the front of the bus and could hear the guide. However, William did not deliver on going to sites while they were not busy, air conditioning, sound system, and was late getting back to the ship, plus omitting the Venus Point Lighthouse. The tour returned the the ship at 6:30PM.
As member from the group, we were upset at the mis-representation by William to the organizer and William's son's direct lie to us while on the dock. This started the tour off poorly and frankly if we had known we were going on an old school bus, we would have not paid for the tour. A further insult was being stopped by the French Police midway through the tour for a safety and documentation check on the bus and the driver, as apparently, William has a poor reputation with the local authorities.
I would not recommend this operator for a tour at Papeete.

We booked Adventure Eagle with William for a stop in Papeete while on a cruise. We had a group of 10 people. 6 days before we were due to arrive in Papeete we received an e-mail from William stating that all his vans had broken down and they wouldn't be fixed in time. I find it hard to believe that this would happen, the more likely scenario is that he got a better deal else where and decided not to honor his commitment to us. Highly disappointed.

We were on the oceania cruise line 4/18/2013 and wanted to do a tour of the island and found this tour company. What a great find and he (WILLIAM) had air conditioned van and had his son with him .. i found him very very reasonable and not a gold digger like some tour companys that are on the island. He spoke very good english also his son was very respectable to me and my wife.He makes sure that you enjoy your tour and He trys very hard and his stops are excellent and he mades sure he gets to stops before the big buses do ,so you can enjoy it more without the crowds. I highly recommend him...

Island living is a totally unique way of life that William Leetag will share with you on his Adventure Eagle Tours. We arranged via his website, tahiti-adventure-eagle-tour.com, for him to meet us at our cruise ship on the one day that we would be in Tahiti. He asks for payment in US dollars (cash). Our first stop was at a gas station to fill the tank. Later in the day we stopped at another gas station to put air in the tires. This is island living!
William was very knowledgeable and entertaining throughout the entire circle of the island tour which lasted nearly four hours. In addition to his vast knowledge of the islands, he shared many stories about his father, Edgar Leetag, the American Gauguin. If you want the local view of Tahiti, you'll want to take this tour with a "certified local character" (the kind of tour guide we always look for). There is no hiking or swimming with this tour but you will see five of the most interesting points on the island with lots of information between stops.

Nice enough guy, van held 8 of us plus him and no air conditioning used on such a hot and humid day. Billed as a 4 hour tour - it was around 4 hours in the van but at leas 45 minutes was spent just picking up other passengers. Then we stopped at a gas station where he asked one couple to pay him ahead so that he could get gas. (That would be us...) he rarely gave out information and when he did it was not necessarily accurate according to what we had read in guide books and on plaques in the Museum. At the gas station he advised us if we wanted water to get it now - one of the few times where a cooler with individual water bottles to be handed out to the guests (remember 4 hour tour) wasn't in the plan. There was never an offer to stop and take a picture from scenic pull overs, scenes that were fabulous were not pointed out (luckily I had a view out of the land side window) and no offer to stop for a soda or any kind of snack. Nor was anything other than 1) Venus point (don't bother) 2) cascade (terrific) 3) blow hole (don't bother) 4) Gaugin museum (very interesting but falling into disrepair and rumor is closing in february) 5) Fern Grotto (don't bother). Ok now, we've driven around the island and going home now... 72 miles of potential scenic beauty reduced to 5 stops and very little information. Good thing I had
good eyes and a seat at the right hand side of the van or I would have been really disappointed in Tahiti.

How much would it cost for a half day tour of Papeete.
Written September 8, 2015
Sounds like a nice tour, is it good for an 84 year old with limited mobility?
Written July 18, 2015
Since this tour is done in a vehicle with limited number of passengers, I think it would be fine for you. It is not necessary to get out and walk at the various locations unless you wish to get a closer look at things. Be sure to let William know that you have limited mobility and exactly how limited so he can be prepared. You will enjoy his commentary on the island, his humor and his Elvis stories.
