On top of the magnificent views, healthy and fresh food, and astonishing hiking team, what fascinates me most is the level and depth of interaction between us, as guests, and the village communities, as hosts! It was meaningful, authentic, and heartiest! I strongly recommend anyone take advantage of this immersive experience in the interior of beautiful Fiji!

Talanoa Treks provides a life-changing experience in the central highlands of Fiji.

This is much more than adventure travel. This is a deep and authentic dive into the heart of Fiji’s rich culture.

We were amazed by the beauty and serenity of the highland villages and by the warmth and generosity of the community members. Talanoa Treks has built trusting relationships with these special villages over decades, and as trekkers we gain an insider appreciation for the richness and complexity of Fijian life.

We have trekked in the Andes, the Alps, Australia, the Himalayas and throughout the world for more than 30 years. This rivals all of the other trips we have taken and adds greater cultural depth and appreciation.

If you are thinking about a trip to Fiji, it would not be complete without at least 3-5 days in the central highlands to see the authentic Fiji with Talanoa Treks. (As much as we enjoyed three days in the Yasawas at Barefoot Manta!)

Bula vinaka to Matt and Marita and all of our talented guides!!

John, Anne and our party of 8 (including 4 teenagers who were deprived of WiFi but loved all of the trekking)

Vinaka vakalevu John, Anne and the entire group - we loved having you join us on this trip and so glad that you could fit it into your Fiji itinerary. Always great to get teenagers off their devices for a bit :-) Also agree that combining time in the interior with Barefoot Manta is a great way to see some of the most special parts of the country. Thank you so much for joining us. Best wishes from the team!

The team were right on time, actually arrived early which was great. The vehicle was very comfortable and great for the bumpy ride. Our driver was fantastic and made us feel very safe. He was also very lovely to chat to and have a laugh which made the drive there and back very fun.

The actual hike was fantastic. Etu completely exceeded my expectations of this trip. He was so friendly, knowledgeable and caring. Actually both guides were very understanding of pace and supportive, especially when coming down as it can be so slippery.

I have been coming to Fiji since I was a little girl and this has just made me love Fiji more. I love hiking and I never knew such hiking really existed in Fiji. I also learnt so much from Etu about the surrounding and Fiji in general.

The lunch was very delicious and enjoyed on the top.

I will definitely be back for another trip soon and to complete Mt Tomanivvi or one of the other trips.

Also your recommendation of staying Wananavu was much appreciated. The staff were soo friendly.

We had been planning to undertake this hike for some time. However after watching ECO Challenge Fiji on Amazon Prime - we decided to book the trip and make the time. It was an awesome hike a fun one to do with friends. The village guides were awesome, very supportive, welcoming and helpful. The walk itself is absolutely stunning. As as Suva urbanite , we tend to gravitate to the beach but it was great to espace to the highlands.

Both Naga and Nabutautau villages were welcoming and hospitable. Also Nabutautau was great as it is steeped in Fiji's history so we got a chance to get a sense of what it was like in the late 19th Century.

Hiking was tough re the ROCKS but once you get your bearings it was all doable with good level of fitness.

The scenary is stunning, grasslands, mountains, rivers and ROCKS !!!

Great stuff

I had always wanted to join a trekking trip with Talanoa Treks. The Highland Escape offers an immersive experience of the interior of Fiji. The trek offers something for everyone - the experienced trekkers to those who want to take it easy and purely have a different experience. The hospitality in the villages is thoughtful and experienced. Food is amazing. I appreciate Fiji even more after this trip.

Talanoa Treks hosted an 11-strong group from Manukau Tramping Club in New Zealand in early October. They arranged four nights hosted by Highland clans in villages (fantastic experience). Three days of hiking around the hills, rivers and mountains, led by local guides (including climbing Mt Tomaniivi, Fiji's highest mountain). Each day fresh scenery, new challenges. For Talanoa Treks, our tour managers (Ben and Jake) were well-organised, knowledgeable, good fun to be around, and joined in some of the hard graft.

Tanaloa Treks made a memorable hiking experience in Fiji.

I completed the Two Peak Challenge and I must say that it was really worth in all senses.

It was a combination of commitment and respect to the environment, culture and traditions with the astonishing landscape as background.

The whole team was supportive and super kind so that you always feel in good hands. Even if for me, the trek was challenging sometimes, there was always a smile to provide you with the energy to positively go ahead.

A special comment on the homestay in Navai. It was heartily enriching to share those moments with them. I have no words to express my gratitude to them.

The fact that I was also so lucky to share the trek with an inspiring person made the whole Two Peak Challenge in Fiji something unforgettable.

Definitely, anyone visiting Fiji should devote some time to discover those area.

We booked a trip last minute while family was visiting, and had a great time. Everything was on time, there were nice touches all around and our guide Ben was wonderful to chat with, and extremely knowledgeable. Kudos to him and the team, and our thanks to Nabalesere for receiving us so warmly.

Vinaka vakalevu Quentin - we're so pleased that your father could join one of our trips and see a bit of the interior while he was visiting. Ben definitely puts the talanoa in Talanoa Treks :-) and is a wonderful trip leader. Nabalesere is an amazing place and community - so privileged to be able to work with them. Thanks once again for reaching out and so glad we could fit you in. Vinaka!

This was one of the most incredible things I have ever done in my life.
The adventure, the people, the guides, the food, the swimming were all 10/10 and I can't wait to go back and do it all over again one day. The villages are beautiful and the people living their are truly the most kind and wonderful people. I did not want to leave on the last day! I am so grateful to Ben and Jake our Talanoa Trek guides for such an epic trip. Special mention to Mr Roko and Selita for their knowledge on the Treks. I can't wait to visit the villages again. The absolute best thing I did in both Fiji and in all of my travels.

Decided to take the whole family for a hike. This included two teenagers and my youngest son who was 7 years old at the time. My son made it up the mountain (1320m) and we were impressed. He was helped by the children from the village which added to the adventure. Considering they practically ran up the mountain barefoot. The hike was a lovely adventure and aimed at getting teenagers to experience an witness the interior of Viti Levu. It was lovely to walk in the cool forest. Some parts were a bit scary but the guides were great and very friendly. After the climb we had a lovely afternoon tea in the village. Going back to the Lodge was even nicer as we had a hot water bucket bath (as it was so cold) and a nice warm fire.. . There were other families with young children so that was nice !!!

We love taking families up to Nadarivatu - a great introduction to the outdoors and camping for younger children- while still being able to use the lodge facilities. And Stonebowl Lodge now also has a warm water shower too!
