I heard a lot about this place and was warned that the road is not safe. But we set on a cross country journey with my dad. Went through the Sigatoka Valley Road and came right from the Nausori Highlands Road. This is the road least traveled with no road signs hence recommended for 4 wheel drives. You just have to trust your navigation skills as the area does not have network at places and the villages are located were far away. We did had to stop and ask for directions in few villages. But it all was all worth it. The view from the Nausori highland is worth the travel. We spotted out 2 or 3 waterfalls but they were quite off the road. Be ware of the wild horses that just run upon seeing the vehicle. Worth a trip to see the interior of Vitilevu.

We rented a 4WD pickup truck for a day just to drive up to the highlands. We started driving north from Sigatoka, then on to Navala village, Ba, and back to Sigatoka through Lautoka and Nadi. The entire loop, with stops, took us about 6 hours. The majority of the "road" between Sigatoka and Ba is dirt/unpaved; therefore, a 4WD vehicle and decent driving skills are required. Once up in the highlands, the scenery takes your breath away. We had to stop every 5 minutes to take a picture. The cool thing is that since not a lot of tourists are aware of this region or choose not to go there due to vehicle or other limitations, we pretty much had the road to ourselves. The Nausori Highlands have got to be the most scenic part of Viti Levu - definitely a highlight of our Fiji trip!

The scenery is absolutely beautiful. Highly recommend hiring a car and driving right up the coast. The road becomes a gravel track but still ok to drive on. The sea side villages add a whole new dimension to your appreciation of this culture. Becomes more remote the more you drive along the coast.

We seen the highlands through a cross country tour. The views were incredible all around! It was a surreal experience. We also got to see traditional villages and shools which helped us understand the culture. Would definitely recommend.

either get a 4X4 rental car and drive across the central highlands, or take a tour. This is not to be missed and it is so beautiful and so scenic.
There are proper tours and hikes that will take you into the real heart of Fiji, but just driving the bumpy central island road (aka track) is amazing and the views are spectacular

One of the best view in the Nadi Area, so stunning that you will be breathless as seen the Nadi delta from that height. The road to highlands is quite steep, but it is well maintained and I recommended that you take a four wheel drive truck if you want to visit the area. It's not that far from Nadi Town, and it may take you less than an hour to be there. One of the best place to escape to from the busiest street life, you feel a different atmosphere and the serenity what nature offers.
