An amazing day of adventure, cruising the Mamanuca Islands on the Seaspray Adventure Tour. Got to see and experience so much of tropical Fiji in one day.

The tour leaders were great. And so was the food. Rain was forecast, but the whole day had perfect weather.

Was blessed to have visited Monoriki Island where they shot the 2000 film Cast Away. It was so pristine and beautiful.

Thanks to Seaspray for such an excellent experience!

Visited Monuriki Island (although I believe it should be spelt Mondriki) recently on a day trip from Denarau Island whilst on holiday in Fiji.. I wanted to see the location of the film Cast Away so I booked a trip with Seaspray Adventures ..
It was wonderful, a really deserted Pacific Island, just as shown in the film .. Clear warm waters, White sandy beach, coconut trees, clear blue skies ..
Stunning a must do if in this part of the world ..

Folks this is the shooting location of Tom Hanks Castaway movie. Please donot confuse it with another island resort with the name Castaway Island Resort. We took the SeaSpray Day adventure tour from south sea cruises to visit this wonderful and isolated island. Its so beautifully mesmerizing, amazing snorkeling right off the beach. The sea around is pretty rough though. The beautiful beach, background hills and the help me sign is a perfect picture setting. There is nothing much to do on the island as you are not allowed to climb the top and reach the other side so you are limited only to the one side of the island. We were allowed only an hour on the island which I found was pretty sufficient to snorkel and roam around and take few pictures.

Took a short speed boat ride from the Castaway Island Resort to the "official Castaway Movie island". We were the only ones on the island (except Wilson of course ;P). I can see why after an hour or so, you'd be bored to death. The small beach has two sides, one is rough while the other with coral and quite tranquil. There were coconuts laid out to spell "Help Me" so took my drone up to get a pic. The currents are strong surrounding the island, so was a bit bumpy. Now I know why Tom Hanks had such trouble getting off the island!

Even though it is a excursion to reach the island, it is not spoiled with tourist shops and all the stuff. Nobody really lives there, so You can feel for a while like Tom Hanks in the Cast Away movie, because this movie was actually filmed here.
Water, palms, and the summit, which you have to climb. No excuses!

It is a fun place to be. Walking around the beach, sitting in the sun, or snorkeling in the water is enjoyable on the island. However, there is nothing else there and you will need to hire a boat or take a day cruise.

The Monuriki island is well worth the trip if the day is nice, but if you are not staying at a resort close by it can be a long trip!

The island was a film location for the movie Castaway staring Tom Hanks and you can tell why they picked the island as it is gorgeous and has everything, mountain, cave and a mesmerizing beach. We were told the island was mostly left as found and the impact was minimized as best as they could. During our visit another production called Survivor was rolling on the other side of the island.

The "Help Me" sign from the movie stands, and some guides provide a Wilson ball for pictures which adds a funny touch to a wonderful trip. If the weather is right you will get a breezy day with an amazing contrast of colors, the current can be a tad strong for snorkeling but its fine for swimming

We enjoyed the island quite a bit, stayed a little over two hours, there are no facilities on the grounds so be sure to take water, snacks and good protection from the sun.
It's a nice island to visit for an hour or two, I read there are tours that take you around the island or even hiking.

I recommend the visit, especially if the weather is nice, going and returning by speedboat can be quite choppy.

To make the most of a visit you need a guide, or to do a lot of research. I am not very interested in films, and have never watched the castaway movie starring Tom Hanks, but even I was fascinated with the factual account of where events took place, what happened in the villages on local islands when Tom Hanks visited them, how the film crew did the filming and so on.

And there is also some of the US Survivor programme filmed on the island.

Apart from this, the island is uninhabited, although close to islands with sizable villages on them, has great snorkeling and great beaches. There is also a lot of lush flora on the island.

It is not commercialised, so bring water and rations with you.

This was the best trip we did from our resort island.

I love the movie and this was a real treat. The snorkelling around the island was great too. A must see for the movie's fans.

Hike to the top of the mountain, where Tom Hanks and Wilson spent some quality time together. Then spend an hour or so shelling the pristine beaches, snorkeling on the reef full of fish, octopi, and small sharks, and drink some coconut water straight from the source. What's not to like?
