This park is where the impressive sculpture - Monumento la Carreta is. It is named in honor of Jose Batlle y Ordonez who was President of Uruguay between 1911 and 1915.
The park itself is about 150 acres in size. It is certainly quite large but Central Park in New York City is, by comparison, 840 acres - or almost 6 times the size. Still, the park has enough room to for the national football stadium, Estadio Centenario.

Nice park in the heart of the city.
Monument of the Carreta, a must see that recalls the transportation in the XIX century.

Nice green in the middle of the city and sculptures too, but not worth to go there unless you go to see a soccer match

Lots of green space and playing fields. The park also has the stadium where soccer’s first FIFA World Cup took place. A couple of significant monuments, La Carreta and the Constituent’s Obelisk are located here.

This large scale park with grass fields had an interesting monument, an old covered carriage pulled by 6 oxen complemented by 2 reserve oxen and escorted by an armed horse soldier. It seemed to render a historical mode of transportation during early period of Uruguay. In front of the park, rows of vendors were selling foods/drinks, souvenirs, and local goods. It was a nice rest stop to enjoy marveling at the monument, gazing at the green field, and stretching legs from our bus trip.

Some of the best and most interesting statues are in this park. Lots of green space, shade trees and parking. Very much a park to see, near downtown.

This seems to be a bus stop during tours of the City. Great opportunity to take photos of the monument and the many other statues. The Market booths had already been set up and vendors were hurrying to set out their wares. Parque Batlle is a barrio and a major public central park and is named in honour of José Batlle y Ordóñez, President of Uruguay from 1911–1915. The park is some 60 acres in area and includes the Estadio Centenario national football stadium. Plenty of vegetation and shady trees.

We loved this park because it has the La Carreta monument, an athletics track, a cafe that also works as Salsa club on Wednesdays and much more.

Perfect place to escape from the chaos of the city for a while, full of locals doing their walks and always with professional dog walkers.

This is centrally located in the city of Montevideo, so you can't go to Montevideo and not pass through there. There are more than a few things in this park to see, a place to take your kids, and track and field stadium and even soccer stadium. I passed by and the child, future star futbol players were out there playing in cold weather. These kids were pretty good, I was surprised. There are also a bunch of historic statues buried in this park too, and it's close to the soccer museum as well.
