A great street to walk down, but don't get too distracted by the obvious, look up and look down there are thongs to be seen, interesting street art including sculptures and murals

This street runs from near the cruise port to the Gateway of the Citadel, the old gate in the city wall that marks the boundary between the old city and the new. It is a beautiful pedestrian walkway with lots of shopping and some beautiful old buildings.

If you come off a cruise ship, which we did, you can make your way from the waterfront to the old city. A lot of the way is fully pedestrianised and this allows you to look more closely at some of the nice buildings in the city. Sadly the overall impression I took from here was a lack of investment and a sense of hopelessness, which is quite sad. I was really looking forward to seeing this city but left rather depressed.

This pedestrian street is a main artery that goes from the port to the old gate leading to downtown Montevideo. There are many street sellers offering crafts, books, and souvenirs, but they won't be in your way if you are just taking a stroll. Also, most of the main clothing stores have branches here on Sarandí. Very quiet at night, sometimes almost abandoned.

It starts in the Puerta de la Ciudadela.

Old town Montevideo, a boardwalk you must visit when in Montevideo.

It's a boardwalk with stores and restaurants. There are street vendors and a lot of the store are closed (space for rent).

It is clean and safe.

It's interesting because of the history but in a half day you can see it all.

Classic street in the old city, with several shops, restaurants and historical places all around. Safe place, highly recommended.

The pedestrian area of the Old Town really allows one to explore and learn about the architecture and history of the city. The buildings with the wrought iron balconies and classic old European architecture is wondrous. Of course it is also a shopping area, with a mix of several museums celebrating Uruguayan artists and history. There is also a Starbucks.

It's always great to find a part of the city where there is no traffic. And this street is enhanced by some great architecture. A bunch of good places to eat nearby.

A lovely and charming stroll by this street will allow you to know a lot about the city. There are many restaurants, cafés and all sorts of shops in the street.
