This is one of the few museums in the city that are free. The first floor exhibit is permanent. It s devoted to a very interesting amateur painter, lawyer, and philosopher Pedro Figari. While wandering through the old city, we came across Museo Figari and decided to pop inside because it was free. The woman at the reception desk asked me if we knew anything about Figari, and I admitted we didn't. She called upstairs and a staff member who spoke english came downstairs to assist us. On the recommendation of an elderly gentleman I visited and did not regret the discovery of this painter who was probably an influence on the early works of Carlos Paez Velaro. The second floor is a temporary exhibit of the year recipient of the Figari prize

We were very lucky to enter this museum just as the clouds burst for another unseasonal rain storm. We were also lucky to have a guide for the exhibit; a delightful young man employed at the museum. With excellent command of English, he described the life of Figari, the history of the region and and the historical development of Uruguay.... More
