We had a fantastic time on our tour here. The atmosphere for the tasting was very wonderful ad the wine was delicious. The tour and tasting were USD $30 per person, which is a much better price compared to some other Bodegas in the vicinity. You have to take a taxi out of town and back, which is like a... More

During a visit to Montevideo, we were very fortunate to visit the Carrau Winery hosted by Ryan Hamilton (wine-experience.com) with a small group (9) and featuring a personally-guided tour and seated, wine tasting session with the owner (Javier Carrau) in his father's den. It was 'special" in every way - to talk directly with the owner and to hear about... More

We loved the visit. The Bodega is beautiful and we learned a lot about the wine production. We taste 4 type of good wines and our "guide" (the owner of the bodega) was very friendly with us. And the end of the visit I recommend to buy some bottles of wines. The price is great!

This bodega is only a short drive out of Montevideo and is well worth the effort of getting there. We took the wine tour and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. The tour was conducted by Marguerite, a Carrau family member and her knowledge of wine and winemaking and her passion for her industry was amazing. Although she had to conduct more... More

I have became a big fan of Tannat and specially of Bodega Carrau. When in Carrau I was trully guided through the secrets of this emblematic grape and I was blessed when tasted the Pinot and the great Amat!

We booked the tour our last day in Montevideo. They took us that afternoon. We had a private tour with another couple with the 9th generation owner Margarita. The tour itself is real quick. Maybe 20 or 30 minutes. We spent the next hour or hour and a half in a private room sitting with Margarita sampling a ton of... More

As South African’s we were pleasantly surprised by Bodegas Carrau. It is a family estate run by 5 siblings and their children. The family has been making wine since 1752, first in Spain and now in Uruguay. They have 2 estates, one in Montevideo which has been making wines since the 19th century and a more modern estate in the... More

I´ve been to this place invited for a busines lunch. A nice starter with wine at an open spot by the grill, the traditional parilla in Uruguay. After that, came to a provate room, where the fireplace was open. A very beautifully set table, just for our group, with an waiter just for us. Green salada, meat straight from the... More

We called the day prior to the visit to schedule a tour of the winery and a tasting. Margarita Carrau greeted us at the time agreed and did the visit, in English, exclusively for my boyfriend and I. We learned a lot about the wine making process, in particular about champagne and tannat. After the visit we enjoyed several wines... More
