During January there are no theatre performances in the Theatre Solis so I decided to take the one hour tour. The story of the theatre is part of Montevideo's history and culture. During the tour you see a charming, random performance of two actors and meanwhile you enjoy the beautiful, historical theatre hall and learn about the building. Definitely worth... More

We paid the $3 (only take Uruguay pesos) and did the English tour--- wow! They made it an experience with a little vignette. Beautiful building.

It is a beautiful theater. It is preferable to attend to an event, or opera ...there are always good options.

A very beautiful theater, we didn't have the chance to make the guided tour, but the little walk we could make gave us a view of how beautiful theater it is.

I always prefer attending an event vs taking a tour of the theater, so we attended an evening of Jazz event that was very fun.

Very famous theater almost in front of Plaza Independencia. Use one of the many websites selling tickets for the theater, but check the prices in advance in order to know if someone is ripping you off.

A must visit if you come to Montevideo. Make sure you attend a concert or play. If you speak Spanish, I recommend Comedia Nacional (the state theatrical company) performances. Not only they are of very high quality, but the prices are very cheap, what Uruguayans call "precios populares". They range from 75 to 150 Uruguayan pesos (yes! from 2 to... More

Nice place to visit and a opportunity to have an overview of the History of Montevideo, as most of the Opera Houses build in South America they are a replica of the European ones

Very old theatre lovingly restored. The tour cost just 60 Paesos & was well worth it. I had pleasant Law student all to myself & she was great. Beautiful theatre built by Freemasons in 1830?

The Solis theatre in Montevideo is well worth a visit. The building dates from 1856 and was renovated in the last decade. It reopened 12 years ago after being closed for 7 years due to the works. The building is magnificent and they run guided tours, that last for a little more than 30 minutes, every hour during the day.
