We were travelling in South America for 3 months so did many walking tours. Our hippy hostel suggested this as 'something different'. At first we wondered if this meant compromising the actual content and historical knowledge which were also interested in but we were so glad we did this tour! Not only did our guide JP know everything there was to know about the history of Uruguay and wider South America, he made the content fun and easy to listen to. We also got a real feel for the culture of the country as he explained several traditions, let us try some of his mate drink and gave us a complimentary shot of the local honey liquour. We saw everything we wanted to see in Montevideo and walked away with recommendations for the rest of our stay. The tour managed to achieve the perfect balance of fun and knowledge and the 4 of us agreed it was our favourite tour in South America! Thanks!

We did the walking tour of the old town on the 9th March. Our guide was Jean-Paul. He was one of the most engaging guides that we have had on a walking tour. We started at the Plaza de Independence and learnt the history of the country. JP kept everyone involved and was also humorous. At the final square JP passed around grappa with honey (nice touch) before finishing the tour at the market. First class tour - recommended.

A two hour tour with a lot of interesting historical and cultural facts about Montevideo and Uruguay. Jorge did a great job and keeping it entertaining and relevant to his crowd. A must do for your first day in the city.

Short and cheerful walking tour. The guides are fairly knowledgable about the history and surrounds of Montevideo and Uruguay. Do this on your first day to collect a bunch of reccomendations for other things to do and places to see.
