We all learned so much on this tour. Jorge did an excellent job providing history and humor along the way. He is easy to listen to and has a very friendly/charismatic way of speaking, sharing info and being inclusive. We highly recommend this tour to family and friends and anyone with a couple hours and a sincere interest in the Old City and history of the capital.

I always imagine it is very hard to be a tour guide. You have to make an instant connection and entertain a whole variety of people infront of you - some want history, some want cultural facts, some want to be entertained. Luckily for me and my group of me (UK) a young German man and Americans from across the United States, got Jean Paul or ‘JP’. Knowledgeable about everything from history to football, art to politics, JP is a hugely talented, interesting and funny (not easy in a second language) guide who will make you fall in love with a unique, fascinating and charming city. His English is faultless and two hours flew by. It isn’t a demanding walk in terms of distance and JP gave us a break in the middle so anyone who needed a rest could have one without embarrassment. Keep up the great work, JP - it was a treat to meet you.

We went on the tour with Jorge and we really enjoyed it. Combining history with day-to-day life of the city in a very accessible and humorous way, providing really interesting insights and great recommendations. Definitely a recommendation!

Terrible Tour. It is advertised as a 2 and 1/2 tour but it only lasted 1 hour. But this is not the worst part. Juan Pablo, the tour guide, was explaining things in plaza independencia when a cute old grandma stopped by to listen. Juan Pablo told her that this is a private tour and she wasn’t allowed to listen. The poor old little grandma left with her tail between her legs. Very disappointing. It took 30-45 seconds for me to realize what had happened. I turned around to talk to the old grandma but I couldn’t find her. My heart was broken and the silver lining is that I was happy that the tour lasted 1 hour instead of 2 and 1/2. While it is advertised as a friendly free tour, at the start of the tour, the guide spends a few minutes making sure you understand you must tip him or there’s no tour. Not friendly at all. Stay away!!!

We are from Montevideo, but received two visitors from USA and Singapur. We decided to take them to this tour because we were sure the guide would provide much more information about our history and city than we could. And we were right. Jorge was very entertaining and also gave the tourists a great insight of our country and culture.
Our guests were very pleased. I highly recommend this tour.

Great walking tour, Jorge the tour guide was knowledgable but not boring and delivered the tour with some humour. At the end of the tour he gave recommendations for everything. He was a great bloke who went above and beyond as we decided to go to a football match the next day. Jorge sent us the link for the tickets told us which seats to book and meet us before the game to take us into the stadium for an amazing experience! Would highly recommend doing the walking tour as soon as you arrive in Montevideo so you will know where to go and what to do. 10/10

John Paul (JP) was our English speaking guide who is an engaging and warm person. He speaks great English, delivers a lot of information in a relaxed way in small bites, so it doesn’t become a history lecture.

He gave our big group a taste of the local grappamiel which was very generous and appreciated.

JP managed our big group of 29 very professionally and I would highly recommend him and his tour.

One suggestion - some guidance on how much to tip would be appreciated! My previous experience of such tours was between US$10 to Us$20.

Phenomenal 2.5 hour walking from Plaza Independencia to Mercado del Puerto. Jorge was our guide. A literal graduate history student, he brought to life the intertwined history of Uruguay, Brail, and Argentina, illustrating it with the architecture, art, mercados, etc we were walking through. He guided with great good humor and obvious affection for Montevideo, Orientales (locals), Uruguay, mate, beef, whiskey, and tour guiding itself. He was funny, engaging, and had a special surprise for us at the end of the tour. Without question, top two walking tours I've taken in cities across the globe.

Jorge (our guide) is a force to be reckoned with. I think this guy could easily become famous on TV or YouTube if he put his mind to it, he's a natural entertainer. Montevideo is a city with a limited number of attractions and the afternoon was windy, rainy and cold for the season, but he managed to make it come to life with his deep knowledge of history and local culture.
