John Paul (JP) was our English speaking guide who is an engaging and warm person. He speaks great English, delivers a lot of information in a relaxed way in small bites, so it doesn’t become a history lecture.

He gave our big group a taste of the local grappamiel which was very generous and appreciated.

JP managed our big group of 29 very professionally and I would highly recommend him and his tour.

One suggestion - some guidance on how much to tip would be appreciated! My previous experience of such tours was between US$10 to Us$20.

I would highly recommend this walking tour, it's a great wait to learn about Uruguayan history, culture and to discover the city. Our guide - JP - was very knowledgeable, fun and gave a lot of great tips. This is the perfect start to your stay in Montevideo!

We did the Ciudad Viejo tour and enjoyed it immensely! Easy to find in bright blue shirts, the tour is 2.5-3 hours, learning the history of the country, the city, and some of the current happenings now. Jerónimo was an excellent guide: knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and entertaining. There’s plenty to see and it really helps to have someone that knows what this statue is or what that building is about. If you only have a day, do this tour!

Terrible Tour. It is advertised as a 2 and 1/2 tour but it only lasted 1 hour. But this is not the worst part. Juan Pablo, the tour guide, was explaining things in plaza independencia when a cute old grandma stopped by to listen. Juan Pablo told her that this is a private tour and she wasn’t allowed to listen. The poor old little grandma left with her tail between her legs. Very disappointing. It took 30-45 seconds for me to realize what had happened. I turned around to talk to the old grandma but I couldn’t find her. My heart was broken and the silver lining is that I was happy that the tour lasted 1 hour instead of 2 and 1/2. While it is advertised as a friendly free tour, at the start of the tour, the guide spends a few minutes making sure you understand you must tip him or there’s no tour. Not friendly at all. Stay away!!!

I did the old city tour and it was great! Our tour guide Santiago was knowledgeable, fun and provided good insights on what to do and where to eat in the city. He even provided us his phone number in case we needed help during our stay. Recommended!!!!

We did two tours, one in Ciudad Vieja and one in Parque Rodó.
The first was with Juan Pablo who was great: fun, informative and always worried that everyone was having a good time.
The other was with Matias who was also great. Since the other guides were on vacation, he had to speak both English and Spanish at the same time and it requires a lot of skills, which he had! It must have been hard for him and sometimes it was a bit difficult to follow but still very interesting.

Despite the name, this is NOT a free tour. In the end, people are "suggested" to contribute some amount. We had just arrived in Uruguay and, unfortunately, we didn't have much cash on hand so we went into a nearby store to see if we could contribute by buying something there (we had a card) or even withdrawing money (in our country, we don't carry physical cash, but this store accepted our digital money). At that moment, the guide came after us and rudely called us asking if we weren't going to give money (wait, wasn't it a free tour?). We were a bit nervous about the approach, so we quickly checked how much physical pesos we had, as we needed some of it to take the bus back to the hotel. Then, we gave a certain amount (converting, it was about 12 reais, which is considered a very okay tip in brazil). I must say, we had NO idea how much to give and they didn't even suggest an amount, so we were in the dark. Well, the guide from the "free" tour got angry because he found the amount low and said the RUDEST things to us. We left the situation feeling REALLY upset. If you're looking for a city tour, I recommend Master Turismo, which wasn't expensive, and the guides are extremely friendly unlike this one.

I recently took the Curioso Free Walking Tour in Montevideo, and it was a pleasant experience. The guide's passion for the city's history and culture made the tour engaging and informative. The medium-sized group created a friendly atmosphere, striking a balance between intimacy and sociability. From iconic landmarks to hidden gems, the itinerary allowed ample time to absorb the layers of Montevideo. What sets Curioso apart is their commitment to delivering a quality experience without a set ticket price—making it accessible to all. With a newfound appreciation for Montevideo and insights into Uruguay's international reputation, I left content. Recommended for those seeking a casual introduction to the city.

We all learned so much on this tour. Jorge did an excellent job providing history and humor along the way. He is easy to listen to and has a very friendly/charismatic way of speaking, sharing info and being inclusive. We highly recommend this tour to family and friends and anyone with a couple hours and a sincere interest in the Old City and history of the capital.

I did the free city tour with Juan Pablo and it was really worth it. He is very attentive, funny and knowledgable. Beyond all the cultural history and local information he gave us plenty of restaurant and bar recommendations and even got to taste some local liqueur.
