Hacienda del Chalan
We organize Horseback riding tours with Peruvian Paso Horses along the Sacred Valley of the Inkas (mid day, 1D, 2-6D). Lakes, snow mountains, archaeological complexes (Moray, Salinas, Ollantaytambo) natural reserves, contact with native towns and civilizations, pleasure and good time are part of our tours.

An amazing and unique eventure awaits you
Jun 2021
My friend and I decided to go horseback riding as a last minute, last hooray activity to our Peru. I was a bit nervous as I had not been on a horse in over 40 years. Yojan, the owner, selected the perfect horse for me, Pellegrino, and my fear quickly went away. We selected the two-hour tour and were not disappointed. The trail was a beautiful stroll along the Urubamba River through back trails, railroad tracks, and neighborhoods you would never see on your own. The view of the mountains was spectacular. Yojan shared the history of the valley, the Incan people and culture. His knowledge made the trip educational not just scenic. I highly recommend this unique way to see the sites and learn about Peru and Incan culture.

Amazing Horse-rides for Everyone! Covid-19 proof ;-)
Sep 2020
I stay with Hacienda del Chalan like a volunteer and did most of the horseback riding trails several times. I love the people, the horses, the nature and everything! Now they have good Covid-19 preventions like mouth covers, social distance, alcohol gel&spray, thermometer, separate tourist restroom with posibility for hand washing, etc.
It is a good family bussiness and the horses are all well cared for. They have different horses (also pony's for children) and different routes for different experience levels. The tours are beautifull along the rivers and mountains of the Andes and Sacred Valley. The husband is an official acredited tour guide, the bussiness is officially inscripted with the governmental security laws for touristic horse bussinesses.

Breathless Sceneries and Wonderful Hosts
Aug 2019
My husband and I had a memorable day with Yojan and his wife and another couple. They were very informative and took us through splendid landscape. We stopped to visit the Salineras de Mara then stopped for lunch at a nice restaurant with a great meal (included), a much merited stop for both the travellers and horses! We opted for the packed snacks, which was much appreciated, by me and my horse ;)

Be prepared for the most amazing views and tranquility. Also, be ready to face the elements depending on the time of the year. We went in early August, and it was dry and a little windy and hot, then cool in the end of the afternoon. So layers and jeans. Your clothes will be dusty by the time you get back, so think about maybe bringing a change of clothes for when you get back.

Oh, don't mix up the "Rancho el Chalan" and "Hacienda del Chalan". They are not the same! We confirmed our reservation through their website a few days in advance, we didn't want to show up and it being sold out on that day.

Thank you Yojan for a memorable excursion. I would do it all over again. I wish you much deserved success in the future :)

Beautiful ride but, be aware of time constraints and daily variabilities.
Mar 2019
My family of 5 adults went to the Maras salt mines in March 2019. It was a beautiful, informative ride. It was supposed to be a 3 hour ride but it ended up being closer to 5 hours. Granted, there were extenuating circumstances that day: we started the ride later than expected due to a taxi delay, and some construction on the main route forced us to go a different route where our horses got stuck for a little while in the muddy river marsh. The experience of riding horses up to Maras is, in itself, thrilling and Hacienda del Chalán were professionals at every step, trying to work around all obstacles to the best of their abilities, including our friendly guide. Please be mindful that going up the mountain to the Maras may not be for everyone, as it is a steep climb on the mountain edge as you approach the salt mines, and altitude may affect you if you are not acclimatized yet. That said, regardless of our variable circumstances, I would ride with Hacienda del Chalán again as they were top notch in their allowances, professionalism and kindness.

Great way to explore the Sacred Valley
Dec 2019 • Couples
We did a 2-hour trip along the Urubamba river. The views were gorgeous and the horses were well kept and happy. As an experienced rider it was really cool to ride a paso fino horse, but it was also a success for my boyfriend who never even sat on a horse before. The hacienda is run by a friendly family who have lots of other animals to welcome you to the ranch.

3 days horse ride in the sacred valley - Amazing experience
Nov 2019 • Solo
I went on the 3 days horse ride in the valle sagrado and it was one of the best tours i ever did. The horses are beautiful and well trained passo peruanos. We were riding every day arount 5-6 hours. The landscape is incredible and we visited Maras, Moray, Salineras, Chinchero and many other places. Yojan has a huge knowledge about the valle sagrado and it was very interesting to get more details about the life of the farmers and the Inca ruines. The first night we spent in a small comunity called Mizminay. The people are super friendly and welcoming.
I recommend this ride to advanced riders who want to experience something unique. For beginners i recommend to do a shorter ride.
Thank you for this awesome experience!

Fantastic experience
Aug 2019 • Couples
I did a 4 hour ride around the valley with this stables. The family who run the stables were really welcoming and knowledgeable about the local area. The ride was stunning, the flowers, wildlife and vegetation that you see are beautiful but the quality of the horse was what I enjoyed the most. I haven’t ridden in an American saddle for a very long time and being from Europe this took some getting used to but once I had adjusted the ride was really lots of fun. The horses are responsive and a really brilliant ride!
Highly recommended.

Enjoyable and exhilarating ride, knowledgeabe and friendly staff
Oct 2019
My husband and I booked a trip on horseback up to the saltpans and back - a four hour adventure. They asked us for detailed riding experience in advance so they could provide us the right horses. The ride went along the river and through several villages. Yojan, stopped periodically to point out Incan gravesites, different flora and fauna and gave us some of the history of the area. The horses were comfortable, healthy and friendly. We enjoyed the feeling of the peruvian paso walking at a brisk but smooth pace - not like any other horse. From crossing the suspended bridges, to climbing up the mountain, the horses were calm and trustworthy. We visited the salt pans, which was included in the price and enjoyed a break at the top before the ride back, which gave us a whole new view of the valley.

I recommend this trip up the mountain for those in good shape with some riding experience - I believe they do shorter trips as well which I'm sure would be excellent for any age or experience

We will come back to do another trip when we get the chance. Thank you Yojan and Karolina!

Wonderful experience
Oct 2019 • Family
We had a wonderful experience today with Hacienda del Chalan. We are a family of 6, 2 adults and 4 kids (11, 9, 9, 4). The horses were very well behaved and could be easily managed by the kids, except for the little one that rode with mom. The path is a bit rough but the view is absolutely stunning, we were all very grateful for being able to do it. It was from 3-5pm so the end of the day light was amazing. It would be nice if they stopped more than one time for taking pictures. I will never forget this day. Thank you, Hacienda del Chalan!

Horrible, rude tour guide and uneven terrain. Terrible experience.
Sep 2019
Horrible experience. If you already know how to ride and don’t mind a rude tour guide, then you should be fine. My advice, take your money elsewhere for a better experience. I was in a group with one experienced rider, we had specifically told the guides that the rest of the group, myself included, was not experienced with horses. He went at a very fast pace, I nearly fell off my horse a total of no less than 3 times, the trail is uneven, full of uphill and downhill slopes. I told him I needed help and he responded by telling me I was riding the horse wrong. Of course I was riding it wrong, it was my FIRST TIME, I don’t see how I could magically learn to ride it correctly on my first try. He gave very little instructions, was rude and short tempered with everyone and barely stopped to take pictures or answer questions. It’s a small business run by a husband and wife duo, the husband is the only guide so you can’t try your luck and hope for a nicer guide. Overall it was terrifying and horrible, I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone. Please, please take my advice and go elsewhere.
