This was an incredibly beautiful and meaningful visit to various campesino communities in Pisac who are guardians of agrobiodiversity and sustainable small family farming. The Park is dedicated to cultivating and preserving native potatoes that are especially adapted to grow in this altitude. We learned so much from Jhon who is the coordinator and administrator of the Parque de la Papa as well as a farmer himself from one of the communities. We completed a half day tour, visited two communities and ended our visit at a beautiful highland lake. During this visit, we learned a wealth of information about the formation of the park, the ancestral and sustainable agricultural practices of the community, how this is impacted by climate change, and so much more. We got a chance to sample delicious native potatoes with cheese made by the communities, and a mate de coca prepared by one of the elder farmers. To coordinate the visit - I recommend to reach out by facebook or email and then you will receive response from Jhon - afterwards you can coordinate by Whatsapp. Note that this is different from other tours in Cusco - you should directly coordinate this with the folks from Parque de la Papa rather than through a tour company. We hired a private taxi for half the day and it worked out just fine as this is about a 30 min drive from the Pisac center. Truly an incredibly place and I feel so honored that this community shared their wisdom and knowledge with us!

I was here in Potato Park enjoying the explanation of Nazario, one of the specialist of this project. They have many skills to protect the potato and their species.

I was at this Potato Park a week ago. They are friendly and they know about the concept of the conservation of native products as the most of 1500 species of potato. I recommend the visit of this park

I’d planned to visit the Potato Park when in Pisac, and the information on Google suggested it wasn’t far from town, and was open all day Monday to Friday. I didn’t see any information about needing to book in advance.
In reality it’s a 30 min drive out of town, and was closed once I’d taken a taxi up there. Which was a shame.
I think you probably need to book a tour with an agency to go.

If you thought that potatoes were of a few varieties only, then this will change your mind. The Andes, home of the potato and Peru is the Star in the heavens as the Potato market is like a museum to every shape, type, colour and variety available. the women are constantly turning and drying the potatoes. If you have the time then this is a lovely day out, which can include Pisac and neighbouring Scared sites.

We contacted the director via email the day before we were planning to go. He responded saying that we had had to contact 48 hours in advance although the website never mentions this. He also said we had to pay 100% of the (still undisclosed) fee before we go. We just drove to one of the communities and to the lagoon. The area is beautiful. We saw more types of potatoes at the market and vendors told us a little bit about them.

This is not just a place to visit, people here make an important job, they preserve native potatoes, I tried this native potatoes, it was wonderful to try so many varieties, some of them have purple pigments, that are antioxidants, also there is a beautiful lake, if you want you can spend a night at a local's house, it's not luxurious, but it's a nice adventure

We were looking forward to visiting the potato park, but unfortunately, it’s impossible. There was no information on TripAdvisor about the park being closed on the weekends, and you must make a reservation three days in advance. Unfortunately, the only way to do this is through Zuckerberg’s WhatsApp, which, if you don’t want to support Zuckerberg’s destructive anti-social media system, becomes impossible. Very sad and kind of counterproductive to the idea of sustainability. Why not offer email, a proper website, or Threema?

An astonishing place run by passionate astonishing people. It looked like a straightforward tourist day, but we met with people who dedicate their lives to producing food on the most ergonomic way but not only that they hope that by sharing efficient food production- for them the potato, they can help food poverty worldwide. Foods that need less water to grow are invaluable. What an inspiring group- we met with Luis a more passionate man you could not hope to meet. Cannot recommend this visit highly enough but hope that they are able to develop their community and the fruits of their work.

We visited this place as part of a tour. it is quit a way out of town. but the reward is you get to meet local men and women who work really hard at keeping their way of living alive. You learn loads about potatoes. You learn about weaving. You see local women weaving and if you decide to buy weaving you know that that money goes directly to the person who did it. The weaving is beautiful and that makes it so easy to buy. Just about everyone on the tour did.
