We purchased a tour from Inkayni Tours, which picked us up at our hotel in Cusco in the morning and dropped us off again that afternoon. It was a great hike, the views were amazing, and the tour guide (Herlin) was the secret sauce that made it perfect. It is incredible to me that such a beautiful place gets so little traffic. We were feeling a little sick so we didn't continue up to the ruins, but just the waterfall was worth it.

Make sure to wear hiking shoes (aka no tennis shoes). We arranged a taxi with our hotel in Ollantaytambo to the waterfall. The trail is 40 min from the town and takes about 2 hours to hike up and back. We didn't go all the way to the top so not sure how long that would take. Great adventure for those looking to get away from the crowd. We paid the taxi $80 (US) and he took us there, waited for us to do our hike, and took us back to the hotel. The altitude made the hike a little challenging but the waterfall is well worth it. Highly recommend!

We hired a taxi from Ollantaytambo. The taxi ride was mostly off paved road and uphill adventure which took about 40 minutes to the nearest hiking point. While driving, we saw there were locals offering horseback ride to the attractions. We saw another group of a few hiking tourist also going to the attractions. The hike is scenic and remote, no clear path to the base of the fall
While hiking, the road has a split one going uphill to the main fall and the ruins, the other going to the base of the fall. We went to base of the fall.

This is a great destination, you can make the village of Socma your base, there are a few families that host visitors, or you can make this a day trip. Take a car to Socma and hike to the foot of the waterfalls about an hour. It will take you another hour to walk to the top of the waterfalls of Perolniyoq above which are the beautiful ruins of the same name. Walk back the same way, or try the narrow path on the left bank that brings you back down through Pillcobamba. Overnight hikers might choose to hike back to Choqana or even go all of the way to the Inca Quarries above Cachicata.

I did this hike on July 15th with no idea of how to start. I asked at ollantaytambo town but looks that most of the people doesn't as much about this trek.
I ask some mini vans that leaves from the market in ollantaytambo and fortunately they give us some idea of how to get there.
First, you can take this mini van from ollantaytambo to pachar bus stop (5min) then you have to cross the bridge there, just follow the car's route or the rail,
there are some signs but not as much so just continue along the route, you will find other site (looks inka) but not sure about the time it was built. This site is called *Ñaupa Iglesia* , there is old painting on one wall too. You must go until Socma village. There is a route you have to take going up, you can use your google maps to guide you however there is no route specify.
From pachar to socma village took me about 2 hours then from socma to Perolniyoc waterfall around 1 hour to 2 hours approx. This would be acording your pace. I get some Chicha (inka drink made by corn) while in Socma so you just have to follow the route from socma village to Perolniyoc Waterfall, this part of the hike was strenuous since it was up hill there are up and downs but the last part is harder.
In general was a great experience and is a hike with no so much people as you can see in a regular trips.
So recommended if you want to have a different hiking experience or adventure.
:) i must go again, i missed the inka site in Perolniyoc.

This was my favorite on my trip to Peru. I loved the serenity of the space...such a beautiful reward after the challenge getting there.

is incredible and the view of the landscape as well. It's a nice place to go sightseeing if you find yourself in Ollantaytambo.

The waterfall itself is amazing but the view from the ruins are even better with sheer drop at the top. Definitely go.
