Entertaining for the town, but no highlight. It does it’s thing well, but it’s just the belly button of the town

Cute and friendly
Feb 2019 • Couples
Cute little square with great views just a block from our hotel. Lots of little shoppes and restaurants. When we arrived, they were having a big festival with dancing and music. Comfortable part of town.

Nice square
Dec 2018 • Family
The village itself is not very big and everything leads back to this sqare. There a lots of restaurants and some shops around the square. You could sit for a while and watch the hills and focus on people walking around the ruins.

Little plaza at the entrance to the magnificent ruins. Full of stalls. Nice Art Gallery and a couple of restaurants. People were very friendly and not pushy.

Touristy bars and restos
Feb 2018 • Friends
Not one of my favorite plazas in South America, as it seemed to lack any kind of local feel. Yes, there are ruins up in the mountains just outside the plaza, so the backdrop is incredible, but the plaza itself features only touristy restaurants and shops.

I did enjoy the events they held in the plaza for carnaval and Candeleria, though.

Small Plaza near the ruins

You can change money here, buy souveniers and there are lots of restaurants here as well as a drug store and other little shops.

Perfect little town plaza
Jun 2017 • Couples
Absolutely wonderful plaza in the middle of Ollantaytambo. For sure, there’s a lot of charm in the ruins, the hills, and the quiet cobblestone streets. But there’s also a lot of charm in the center of the town. Plazoleta Aracama is completely charming and has a sense of beauty totally consistent with what you would imagine a tiny Pervuvian plaza in the Sacred Valley to be. There was a constant hustle and bustle of visitors here – not just tourists. In fact, tourists were a minority. Plazoleta Aracama attracted workers from the countryside, men and women in traditional clothing, a potpourri of motor taxis, and local police to keep the traffic flowing.

We found a café on the second floor and watched the “entertainment” for a good hour, taking countless pictures. It was a nice break from our hikes and a cool way to study Peruvian life like a fly on the wall.

Small plaza of the small town
Jun 2017 • Couples
Plazoleta Aracama is the center of Ollantaytambo where the international bars, taxi drivers and touristc shops are located. Also the this is the main area for the festivals. If you walk a bit more and go to the town market during the week you can see the how the local market looks like. In the evening it is full of people, so good opportunity to socialize. I personally would not recommend to spend much time here as it is the noisiest part of this small town and Ollantaytambo has much more to offer around this plaza.
