Part of Peru trip

This is a really lively and bustling market, very similar looking shops but search hard and the little gems are tucked away. Really enjoyed the vibe

Inexpensive trinkets and gifts!
Jan 2020 • Couples
Inexpensive trinkets and gifts! Sometimes you need trinkets, toy llamas and inexpensive scarfs for the people back home and talking points at the office. This is a place to search out these items. For the good stuff wait until you return to Cusco. Nice place to wait for the train.

Cheap tourist handcrafts
Aug 2019
If you want to buy a good quality "Alpaca" garment, it doesnt matter if a globe or a scarf or a sweater or a dress, I mean this is a cheap market, you should wait until getting back to Cusco to buy at quality stores like "asociacion SEMPA" located on the side of one chuch in the cathedral square in Cusco, where you can buy from manufacturers with high quality or from stores with good reputation like KUNA or BONI, several stores in Cusco and Lima

So many stalls, so much merchandise
Oct 2019
There is something for every one in this market. I was there quite early (as in 9am) and not a lot were yet open. But there are many stalls, all sitting next to one another in several aisles which extends from the railway station down to the main bridge in the town. Knitted garments of all kinds, shawls, gloves, those wonder water bottle holders - such a hit with my group, jewellery, small souvenirs, you name it. Prices were reasonably competitive - cheap by our standards perhaps.

It is, indeed, adjacent to the train station!

You must walk through the market to the train and there are signs to guide you through the stalls. This market had the same souvenirs as most other markets we saw. There are the llama toys, embroidered purses, baby alpaca hats, gloves, scarves, blankets. There are photos ops as many of the vendors are weaving, carrying baby llamas and are in traditional dress. Remember if they agree to a photo a small tip, usually a dollar, is expected. We had a free morning in town and strolled through the market, then walked through the main plaza and along the river in the mist and light rain. This is the gateway to Machu Picchu and a lively and vibrant town.

Local crafts & souvenirs market next to train station
Aug 2019
You cannot might this. This Aquas Calientes market hits you in the face once you get off the train. Colorful Peruvian crafts and souvenirs sellers everywhere. Vendors appear to be individual family run stalls. Many sold the identical or similar items. Walk around and compare prices at different stalls before making an offer. Limited English spoken. These people work long days to be there. Usually you can get 10-20% off the asking price, which seems fair as they depend on tourism to support them. Poverty rate in Cuzco is around 30%. Just outside across the bridge is where you line up for the bus going up to Machu Picchu. Most destinations in Aquas Calientes are only 5-10 minutes walk from this market.

This is a huge market
Jun 2019
You can spend a lot of time wandering thru this huge covered market which is on the hillside of the street above the town (where our hotel was also located). I only wandered thru it on my way to and from my hotel (which was above it) but didn't have time to really explore it. When I return I will set aside at least a couple hours to check it out at a more leisurely pace as I did see some things for sale that I didn't see in other markets in the Cusco area. (those shops were closed in the morning hours when I saw them)

I thought I was in a market in Bangladesh when I got off the train. Cant even see the town as your shrouded in a market. It is pretty much the same as everywhere else in Peru but If this is your only stop in Peru it is worth getting the items you need. Prices are pretty much the same as in Cusco.

The same stuff you can buy from nearly every other market across Peru. The area is covered for when it rains it is dry, so if there is bad weather at Machu Picchu then at least you can stay dry.
