Shopping for small gifts to take back home ...
Nov 2019
While visiting Lima and if looking for small gifts to take back home, "Avenida Petit Thouars", at the Miraflores District, may be the right place to go. There, among other markets, you will find "Indian Market - Centro Artesanal Miraflores", where endless small shops sell typical Peruvian handcrafts and souvenirs. Check the colorful alpaca scarves and sweaters, woven rugs and bags, wallets, silver crafts and jewelry. Take your time and stroll along the many aisles of "Indian Market - Centro Artesanal Miraflores", where a little haggling is expected and always possible. Enjoy!

Comprehensive market
Mar 2020
A comprehensive market with small units selling all the usual souvenirs and typical tourist stuff. Small locally-made woollen rugs are good value. There are also good washrooms for which a nominal fee is charged.

Well worth a visit
Mar 2020
Amazing variety of items for sale fro usual tourist things (don't knock it I do like a fridge magnet to look at on dull days) to local crafts. There are also a couple of places where you can stop for a soft drink or a beer which are used by the local traders. We walked there after visiting the Textile Museum which took about twenty minutes.

The best place to purchase clay bulls is...
Feb 2020 • Couples
This is one of the better locations for tourists to shop for local arts and souvenirs. We were looking for a pair of bulls for adorning our living room back in Canada.

We came across some unique clay art which looked very subtle and sophisticated at Artesanias ‘El Arte’, Stand 49. We did not find similar ones in any of the other stores.
We tried our best to haggle and were not very successful even though we walked away.

We ended up paying about USD 50 for the pair, but it was well worth it in the end. You can pay something similar for a smaller mass produced version at the airport.

Nice selection of souvenirs
Dec 2019 • Family
The place was nice and clean, there are infinite options to choose from, is worth going around and asking for the different prices.
The vendors are very friendly and helpful.

Perfect place for shopping
Dec 2019
If you need to buy souvenirs this place is perfect. Of course as a tourist you need to pay attention to prices and bargain. Of course if you pay by cash the price is different. You can get everything in one place: magnets, paints, clothes, scarfs, wooden craft, hand made.. whatever you need.

Vast variety of Peruvian souvenirs!
Jan 2020 • Couples
Vast variety of Peruvian souvenirs! Not superior quality, no guarantee they were made in Peru. But if gifts are need for family and friends without spending a fortune this is a terrific stop.

Rule one - don’t pay the first price given
Rule two - bargain
Rule three - read one and two again!

There were lots of options for souvenirs at the Indian Market. Not everything is authentic but if you’re looking for colorful reminders of your trip, it’s a good option.

Be careful
Dec 2019 • Family
We have been in Peru now for over 2 weeks with various travel locations. We started in Lima and have returned after doing the circuit if you will which included Cusco and travels onward from there.

I have titled this area to be careful as my travels educates me in what true baby Aplhaca is etc. We purchased some very nice products from an authentic seller outside Cusco. The cost was very reasonable. They gave us a demonstration on how they make the products and dye. They showed the difference between genuine products and imitations.

We went into this market and neighbouring ones. The price comparison between the markets and those in Cusco and neighbouring are not the same. It is less expensive in Cusco and other areas.

More importantly, we visited a couple stalls and looked at “100% Alpaca” and baby Alpaca products. When I challenged the sellers on the product authenticity they acknowledged with a smile and we were politely dismissed.

Be careful with what you purchase even with proper labels attached. If venturing into Peru further, the items in these markets can be purchased for 25 - 75 % less in Cusco and beyond.

If just staying in Lima, enjoy the stalls but get educated in what is authentic vs imitation.
