I've been to a few cemeteries now in Latin America, and this one stands out for the size and variety of statuary. I was impressed! If you love to take a good wander and snap photos, you'll need a good couple of hours to really do this place justice.

Entrance costs 7 soles, and add another 10 soles on if you want to take pictures.

I was warned by a few locals that wandering in the surrounding neighbourhood is unwise. I was strongly advised to take a taxi, rather than walk.

Visited with Haku Tours. Was glad I had a guide. Lots of interesting stories in the cemetery, and I leaned a lot of history about Peru tour. Cemetery is unique and wasn't over-run with tourists. Unique way to learn about the history and culture.

First time we visited this Cemetery. Contact them to see about their own tours, we learned that when we went there and all of our attempts of booking a tour failed since everybody was booked.
Plenty of history, interesting stories, it is actually indescribable, too much to tell. Worth visiting! I know they offer tours at night too! That's spooky but we will definitely do it next time!

Just like Père Lachaise in Paris or La Recoleta in Buenos Aires, this is the Peruvian version although much smaller. The Peruvian heroes from the Pacific war are buried here as well as many other Peruvian personalities from literature, music, etc. The area around is kind of dangerous so it is better to come in a taxi directly to the cemetery. There is the area where people who committed suicide are buried and you can see many Chinese names in this area. There are night tours of this cemetery from the Beneficiencia of Lima.

I signed up for an evening tour given 2x a month on Fridays. You can purchase your ticket at the pick up location or at a Wong supermarket. They provide transportation to and from museum to the starting point. About 2-21/2 hours. It cost $20 or $22 soles about $7US.
It is a very old and needs some TLC but it is very beautiful. Lots of legends of the people buried there. I found it very interesting. It is safe and secure. You do need a flashlight. Tours are given in Spanish by well informed docents. No really for teen or small children. But it is a big part of Peru's history. Those who like photography will enjoy taking photos although it is very dark so plan ahead. I would love to go back in the daytime!

Highly recommended for cemetery lovers. Large grounds, many beautiful tombs and mausoleums. You can walk around for a long time and always discover something new.
