Booked the Premier service to take my family from Lima to Huaraz. After some research, this appears to be the only overnight service which offered seats that recline 180 degrees. Website, and indeed the entire service from start to finish is tricky to navigate if you are not a Spanish speaker - do not expect any favours in this regard. Ticket purchase was fairly straightforward online once Google translate was utilised. The reservation slip showed two departure addresses and we actually had to ask a friendly hotel concierge to call them to confirm the correct one. We arrived at the depot several hours before our departure. They printed out our tickets for our outbound leg but we were told we had to get our tickets for the return leg in Huaraz (I did this the day before our return departure partly out of paranoia but we could have collected an hour before scheduled departure). The depot happily stored our luggage for us while we spent the day in Lima. When we returned in the evening, our bags were removed from storage and tagged separately for loading to our scheduled bus - we didn't need to keep them with us. There are many buses leaving between 21.00 and 23.00 and they are announced in Spanish - we went up several times to check if ours had been called before they took pity on us and signalled when our bus was ready to depart.
I can't comment on the food as we simply boarded, reclined our seats, and tried to sleep. With the exception of one seat which refused to fully recline, the seats did indeed go flat enough that you can reasonably lie on your side; although lying on your front would be unrealistic. They are wide and a small pillow and blanket are provided. I would recommend having a fleece handy (as they turn the aircon on intermittently) and earplugs and an eye mask.
Given the nature of the journey which includes winding roads, this is never going to be as comfortable as a fully flat bed on a plane. All in all, however, I would say that the configuration is about as good as it can be. Three of us slept fitfully, whilst my wife didn't. A tip for what it's worth - if you have a choice take seats as far to the rear of the bus as you can as this should minimise lateral movement in transit. Either way, expect to be knocked around, particularly as you head onto the more winding roads.
No complaints on punctuality - both legs departed and arrived on time and from what I understand the Premier service is particularly reliable.
Toilet - smelly and cramped. But what can you expect from a coach? Best advice - exercise bladder control if possible.
Baggage collection upon arrival was strictly only with your baggage receipt - don't worry about the risk of some third party making off with your hold luggage.
We were going straight to the airport on our return leg to Lima. If you do the same, disembark at the first stop (Los Olivos), and make sure your bags are tagged accordingly when you check them in. Los Olivos is closer to the airport than the final destination and avoids the need to double back on yourself through morning traffic. In the end we arrived in Los Olivos terminal (where there are toilets) at 5.10, some 6 hours post-departure. The taxi to the airport cost me PEN30, and they drop you outside the main gate to avoid paying the drop off charge, but the walk is barely 250 metres so manageable.
Value for money? No question - yes. For the quality of the seat alone the small price premium to a regular seat it is worthwhile and it's hard to imagine covering 400km in a better manner short of flying (which we discounted as the only current service is horrifically unreliable). The personnel are friendly and one gets the impression that this is actually a very well organised and managed operation. On the other hand, the language barrier (which I take my share of responsibility for) combined with the occasional lack of clear information for what was a novel experience impacted on my confidence as a rookie and the nervousness this created does influence my rating of the experience. Now I am more versed this would naturally be less of an issue. I have provided as much detail as I have partly so others can learn and hopefully gain confidence from my experience.
In summary - good on execution once you are on the bus and hopefully the above goes some way to filling in some of the unknowns in the pre-boarding process.

We booked a return trip from Lima to Cusco (1-5-16 and 10-5-16). The way to Cusco was brilliant, great seats and service and the 21 hours quickly passed. However on our return journey, we were left extremely disappointed. Both our tickets and reservation stated the bus would leave at 6pm. We arrived at 5:15 to be told the bus had already left!!!! We had to leave Cusco that evening as we had booked a tour and accommodation for the following day. We had to then run around Cusco terminal to find an alternative company to take us back. This was very disappointing as the company we had to go with was no where up to the standards of Movil and it was uncomfortable. We were refunded but this hassle could have been avoided by a simple email or phone call to say the departure time had changed. I would like to travel again with Movil but feel your schedule is not reliable and would be a stressful journey.

This was an interesting experience as a foreigner! We took the overnight bus from Lima to Yungay and back for our visit to Huascaran National Park. Very good value ($76 per person for the highest end option round trip) however not sure I could do it again!

Purchasing tickets was very easy online. Translated the site to English and you choose your seats while booking. They have pictures on the website so you can see what your seats look like - there are different options but it's pretty easy to navigate if you're not sure.

Arriving at the Lima bus station felt incredibly chaotic. Our bus was at 10:30 pm, however the station was packed and bustling when we got there at 9:30. The people at the counter seemed proud to not speak any English so we struggled to communicate, but in the end the process is pretty efficient and effective. Even though you buy tickets online, you need to wait in line to pick up your actual ticket. Then go next door to the luggage check - they'll give you a ticket for each bag which you'll need at arrival. The "bus station" at Yungay is really just a tiny little shop, be ready to wait in line no matter which station you're at - no idea why but everyone seemed to have a zillion questions.

The bus ride itself... the temperature can fluctuate a lot from warm to super cold (sometimes all within a few hours). On the way back, they were playing a movie with the sound playing through the speakers, why why why can't they just give you the option of listening through headphones instead of forcing everyone to listen? It wasn't super loud but definitely distracting. The ride itself was super bumpy and with the buses being so tall, I just felt like I was being thrown around side to side all night long. Couple that with an odd smell I noticed when I sat down.. I self medicated with motion sickness medication and some sleep aid but still got pretty nauseous with some headache. Eventually was able to sleep but not a restful way to spend a night. Woke up and found they left us some snacks during the night.

The bus itself it pretty nice, nicer than any bus I've seen in the US.. really massive. The bathrooms actually weren't bad BUT the ride is so bumpy and swervy, it is not an easy task! I wouldn't look forward to doing this ride again, but it's a decent option to travel around Peru. Good value when the cost of a flight could easily be 4x as expensive. I would consider a seat on the lower floor and towards the front since it should be more stable, though.

We had VIP tickets purchased for us by the travel agency. Because the VIP bus did not show up at the terminal (we were told they had no idea where the bus was) they ended up, an hour after the scheduled departure time boarding us on another bus that had no VIP seats - and this without giving us any compensation, not even warning us of the fact this was not our original bus. After a very uncomfortable 10 hour ride we arrived at our destination more than two hours late. To make things worse, our suitcases were filthy coming out of the bus.

We rode the overnight bus from Chiclayo to Chachapoyas on 12/29 and then returned 12/30. 2 10 hour bus rides back to back doesn't seem ideal but it was great! The seats were comfortable. Slept great(with earplugs). There were kids on the bus that used the speakers in the ceiling. It was loud but they only played one movie so there was no noise after that. Inside tip: Be the first on the bus and turn down all the ceiling speakers. They provided a blanket which was nice. TONS of space to stretch out. Thanks to Movil, we had a good, cheap sleep and got to and from our destination safely. Looking forward to our next trip!

I was a bit afraid about travelling by bus in Peru. I must say it went perfectly well. First of all roads are good. I was surprised - even in the most remote places there were no holes on the road. The views during the day were amazing. It might be scary on narrow roads, especially when they overtake each other - crazy Peruvian drivers !

I highly recommend taking a VIP buses and booking front seats! Buses are new and tickets are cheap.

Had a comfortable trip. ALL the busses in Peru don't mind the speed limit, but Movil seems like a relatively safe option. A better driver than Cruz del sur on our way back.

They played 3 air, disaster crash films back to back on full volume to the point where the speakers just gave out white noise.....just to remind us of how to safe we are on their bus.

They refused to put up English subtitles.

On the way back luckily the remote didn't work so we got some sleep, advertised arrival was 9am in Trujillo. the bus diver discided to stop for a trip to the supermarket and then gave his friend a left home. would you believe? we ended up just the 1.30 hour late.
my chair also was broken. I hate this crapy bus company.
oh, also I would like to thank the crazy bus driver on the way their, thank you for white lining every corner on that testing mountain road. I hope your F1 career really takes off because your a love of a bus driver.

We took the bus from Lima to Huaraz at 10:30 pm and arrived at 7 am. The seats we reserved were semi-cama. It was really comfortable and relaxing.
The bus wasn't sold out so we could take two seats per person.
They played a movie but you can turn of the sound for your seat.
Short after leaving Lima we got a little snack.
We payed 65 soles per person through the internet.

I've had an upsetting experience with Movil Tours got their bus from Trujillo to Huaraz overnight in 20.06.18, put my big rucksack in hold luggage and was given a ticket. When I arrived at my hotel in Huaraz I discovered items missing from my bag, I also had two separate name tags with my contact information which were securely attached to my bag removed they decided to leave two key rings attached and even took a bottle of water i had. I contacted Movil at Huaraz terminal they simply did not care i emailed them and no reply. Really disheartened that someone went through my stuff. Have travelled all through Ecuador will no issues. Will be sticking to Cruz del sur just wished they travelled to Trujillo to Huaraz.
