If I could give this tour 10 stars, I would! I scoured guidebooks, blogs and Reddit posts for restaurant recommendations in Lima. However, none were as good as the food we tried on the “Lima Just for Foodies” tour. It was hands down the best food we had during our entire stay in Peru! Lots of tours promise to take you “off the beaten path” to “discover hidden gems.” Usually it’s just branding, but Lima Tasty Tours actually delivers. Our guide Arturo was incredible. He took us to a local market where we sampled countless fruits, vegetables, and snacks, as well as soup, appetizers, and entrees from different vendors and food stalls. Not only would we never have found this market if not for the tour (it’s definitely not listed in any guidebooks or food blogs—we were the only tourists there), but even if we had, we wouldn’t have known what to order, or appreciated the history behind what we were eating. Beyond the amazing food, Arturo provided fascinating context on the history, geography, and culture that have shaped Peru’s agriculture and gastronomy. His passion for Peruvian food and culture was evident, as was his connection the market community itself—he knew all the vendors by name and was received with smiles and jokes wherever we went.
