Mateo Salado is a precious archaeological site in Lima (Pueblo, Brena). We were extremely impressed and happy about this silent and rather unknown monument in the heart of lively Lima. We can really recommend the site tour with the very experienced and enthusiastic guides (e.g. Belen and others). Thanks a lot for 2 great hours. Frank, Gloria and Manuel from Germany/Peru

I friend told me to check this place out as I'm staying in Pueblo Libre and it didn't disappoint. You can do it by yourself or with a local tour guide (recommended, who will provide you with heaps of valuable and interest information about the site, history and the surrounding areas. Definitely worth visiting as is bigger than other archeological sites in Lima and much quieter, as is considerably unknown to most tourists. As is located in the limit of Pueblo libre and other couple of districts, you should also consider visiting the National Museum of the Archaeology, Anthropology, and History of Peru or the Larco museum, both located in Pueblo Libre, Lima Peru.

My local friends from Pueblo Libre, Diego and Kieran, took me here when I was in Lima. The kids loved it. And I didn't even know it existed. After seeing it, I'm pretty sure it's bigger than the one in Miraflores. And would definitely visit again the next time we're down from Cusco.

Mateo Salado is located in the Lima District on the West side of La Plaza de La Bandera bnetween Av. Tingo Maria and Mariano Cornejo. The site was used as an administrative and ceremonial center from the Ychma culture that was reoccupied during the Inca period. It is made up of five terraced pyramids and there are tours offered to learn more about the site. Their hours of opperation are between Thursday and Sunday 9:00am – 4:00pm and you can call to ask about the parking facilities or tours with largegroups. The site is a great place to visit if you are interested in learning about the history of Peru. They even sometimes have events for the community at the site.

Fees to enter the site are S/.10.00 for adults, S/.5.00 for students, S/.5.00 for those who are retired, and S/.1.00 for children

If you are interested in archaeology it is a cool place to go!

We went here not knowing you could not walk around on your own and only had time to go with a Spanish language tour. Even still, it was very interesting and there was signage in English so we could figure out what we were looking at. Interesting garden and livestock exhibit also.

Interesting visit in English by the archeologists themselves. You can visit 3 of the 4 pyramids, and see the ongoing digging and research work. Walking distance from the Larco museo

One of the largest monumental sites I saw in Lima, with five pre-Incan pyramids preserved within the area. View was incredible, the complex was huge, and Mateo Salado has an interesting history, both from its archeological past as well as in it's namesake. University students get a heavily discounted price, and the guide spoke fluent English and was extremely friendly and knowledgable, even recommending other attractions around Lima to visit.

Would definitely recommend, especially if visiting after touring the nearby Larco Museum!
