We met Hector at a local market where he took us on a small food tour explaining all Peruvian fruits, vegetables and other fascinating products and ingredients. From there we continued to Hector’s open air cooking ‘studio’.
It is situated in the garden of a house in a residential area and has a really nice set-up:
a large square working surface under a roof with space for 9 plus Hector, so everyone can clearly follow all instructions
several selfmade cooking units for use in the garden out from under the roof
good knifes and cutting boards

We arrived at 3 pm and sat down for a self made dinner at 7 pm.
We learned how to make 3 Peruvian cocktails and 4 Peruvian dishes!
Pisco sour
Pisco maracuja
Chilcano
and
Papa la Huancaina
Ceviche
Glazed Sweet Patatoes
Lomo Saltado

The result was DELICIOUS.

We had a mix of people in our group, some just came for the activity, some wanted to improve their cooking techniques. Nevertheless, alll of us had a great time.
The atmosphere is really open and relaxed due to the great team and the very positive character of Hector.
Those interested in the techniques really picked up a lot of tricks and improved their skills.
I can REALLY recommend to take one of Hector’s Peruvian Cooking Classes.
He is a chef with great experience and easily appraochable, a good combination if you want to learn stuff.

PS. I suggest you have lunch or at least a sandwich before you join the afternoon session as sitting down for dinner won’t be until a few hours later.

We had an amazing experience doing the market tour and cooking class with Hector. Going to the market and seeing all of the fresh produce and meat we would cook and eat, with the added commentary from Hector telling us about the variety of local foods and pointing out things we were unfamiliar with, helped us gain an appreciation for the food we’d be making. The class itself was in a great outdoor kitchen and everything was very hands on and delicious. We made so much delicious food, it was hard to leave some of it on the table, but we were just so full! We are so looking forward to trying to recreate these recipes and what we learned with Hector back home.

Hector is a very friendly person and an extremely knowledgable chef. He shows and tells you about the Peruvian life and takes you to the local market. You learn about all the different things available there and then you go and do the cooking class. The cooking class is super nice to do and teaches you a lot. Hector is super patient and helps you whenever you need it. All in all a 5 star experience and will come back if I am ever back again in Lima.

As a chef in California who is a fan of Peruvian cuisine, I wanted an authentic, accessible session that would help me understand & deepen my love for the flavors of Peru. Chef Hector gave me just that! We focused on Pollo a la Brasa, Lomo Saltado & Pisco Sour plus we experimented with several different sauces that could go with just about any Peruvian dish. Hector is knowledgeable, experienced & fun to cook with. He provided a fun (and gorgeous) atmosphere that any chef could benefit from. The recipes are tried & true & I will be using them in my restaurant to treat my guests to world-famous Peruvian hospitality. Muchas gracias, Chef Hector!

AMAZING!!!

Had an amazing afternoon with Hector. First we went to the market where he told us about all the different food and spices available in Peru. You really get an idea of what Peru has to offer food wise. Then we had a really cool cooking class where we learned to make a lot of different Peruvian dishes under Hectors professional and super friendly supervision.

All in all an amazing experience and would definitely recommend to everyone visiting Lima and would like to learn more about the Peruvian kitchen. Hector is really friendly!

My daughter has the experience of her life learning how to prepare ceviche. I strongly recommend this class, for us it was the perfect experience to complete our adventure in Peru.

We did the class with the market tour and Hector showed that he knows what he is talking about! The amount of food was very fulfilling, but doesn't go hungry because you just eat in the end.
The food was very good, we ate the best causa and aji de gallina of the trip. Hector is ready for all your questions.
I just missed the recipes at the moment, to write down any changes or tips that would appear, but they send you a very complete recipe book after.
Thanks for the great time, guys!

We were wondering what in the world to do in Lima, when one of us said??? Well why don’t we take a Peruvian cooking class?

I thought it was a great idea to learn how to cook Peruvian typical dishes! However, I’m a big foodie that likes to eat and then eat and mmmm🤔eat some more. Not really cook, but I said oh well let’s give it a try.

So we decided to take Hector’s cooking class, he did not have any classes available the day off, but accommodated us (2persons) to an awesome cooking class. A chofer picked us up, then we picked up Hector and finally we made our way to the Miraflores market.

There he thought us how to pick our fish, conchas and shrimp and showed us all the different kinds of Chile’s, fruits, cheese and vegetables. Moreover, we went to a house where we were welcomed we a Maracuya Pisco Sour by Domingo (chef’s assistant).

At that time, I thought now we’re talking. I guess cooking can be fun too... lol. Hector gave us a great cooking class, while chatting and teaching us step by step. He was so nice to provide us with a pescatarian menu and we learned how to make causa de langostinos, cebiche and even pisco sours!

I honestly think this was one of the best things I could have done while in Lima. Now I can’t wait to go back home, and try the recipes that Hector provided for us! We will definitely keep in contact with him, and we hope to take more classes with him in the future.

I would highly recommend anyone who enjoy cooking to this class because:
1. Hector was knowledgeable in cooking and in the fine dining industry. He would tell you how to cook and where to find the best food in Peru.
2. He provided transport to and from hotel or to other places you prefer.
3. The market tour at the start of the experience was colourful, informative and enjoyable.
4. The cooking class was held at Hector’s home at an outdoor kitchen which is relaxing, comfortable, spacious, clean and well-equipped. He would teach you skills which you might not be aware of despite of having years of cooking experiences. Moreover, he was flexible to cater for the dietary requirements of individuals.
5. The food we made was delicious. He provided the recipe and a list of recommend restaurant.
