The museum is small, though informative and with visually attractive exhibits. The show case is the remains of the historical building that have been uncovered. Workers were busily constructing walkways through the building, so sometime soon you'll be able to walk there. Interesting, but I wouldn't call it a must for your visit to Lima.

While we were at the square we saw a few museums we wanted to check out. This caught our eye and we didn't mind paying the 4 Soles per person (less than $1.50 us). It had some interesting facts about the time period and the items they dug up were a bit interesting but really the only truly fascinating part was the rock floor. The building you start in, is not the building where the artifacts were found and its a bit tough to visualize what it used to look like. Could be much better done but killed 30 minutes or so.

I was really impressed with this museum, which is a block from Plaza de Armas, and worth the visit if you've an hour spare. It's 6 soles.

If you find construction interesting, or enjoy walking around ruins, then this is your thing. But there's also some really good information about the planning of Peru during different colonial time periods, and this added a great deal to the already-compelling charm of the place.

This small museum and archeological site is located in Downtown Lima, next to Estacion de Desamparados and Palacio.
Entrance is free!!!. I was here for probably 20 minutes. You can see the archaeological findings and picture colonial Lima. This is a great surprise and a great initiative of the municipality. San Francisco is right around the corner. The whole block is full of renovated old houses.
Plenty of restaurants around.
It opens from 9a.m-5p.m.
The bathroom was small and did not have toilet paper. It has a flushing toilet and running water.

this museum gathers a portion of archaeological site with a mansion located in downtown Lima. After a couple of years and administered by the Municipality of Lima, this museum has free admission, being an excellent choice to discover how was the home of one of the largest Spanish explorers who discovered much of the Canadian coast (Pacific Ocean

The mansion was buil in 1748, after the big earthquake of 1746. The family of Tomás de la Bodega y Quadra lived there till the Pacific War. In 1957 the Municipality of Lima bought it.It has two floors, the top floor (the old mansion) houses the museum, that shows everything found during the excavation.
The objects found during the archaeological excavations at the site show us the daily life of colonial society and the times of the republic.

I literally stumbled across this museum and wandered in. Not a destination on its own, built worth the visit. The archeological site was interesting, with informative signs (in English) describing what has been unearthed. Enjoyable for a stroll and to learn a bit of history. Stop in if in the area.

Many of structures from this museum are very well maintain, a lot to see about architecture, and structures from old time.
This structure included a wall, arcs, remodeling and arwuitecture interventions .
Very near from the plaza de armas, easy to reach

We were just walking by and saw this place, took a chance and was impressed. This museum is free and can be done in about 20 minutes.
