The City where I Live
Sep 2020
Santiago ded Surco is a beautiful city, plenty of beautiful parks with beautiful flowers not only in the park but in the Boulevards. Many very affordable restaurants serving cuisines from all over the world!

Great for shopping but far from everything else!
Oct 2019
On Southern Lima, the district of "Santiago de Surco", or simply "Surco", has been already populated even before Inca times. Today, it is famous for its many universities (as the "Universidad de Lima"), shopping malls (as "Jockey Plaza", "El Pólo" and "Caminos del Inca"), the "Hipódromo de Monterrico" and the unmissable "Museo del Oro del Peru". It is a rather heterogenous quarter, with many nice residences, parks, squares, schools, restaurants and golf courses. Even the American Embassy is here! But, and there is always a but, due to Lima's permanent traffic congestion, "Santiago de Surco" gets to be quite far from the affluent quarters of "Miraflores", "San Isidro" and "Barranco" - where hotels and main attractions are. Enjoy!

Great district
Jan 2018 • Friends
It's a beautiful district, i visited with some friends this district because one friend told me that this district is very interesting, we saw many parks, in addition its safe. in my opinion the most important park is the friendship park where is a big lake to have fun, comparing with other district like miraflores or barranco is not very touristic however i liked to enjoy walking in Surco.

we had to visit the dentist in Surco, so a drive by was needed!

this district takes you to Monterrico, is full of commercial stores, shopping centers and takes you away from the center of Miraflores towards Monterrico. Our dentist was in Caminos del Inca in Surco, so our taxicab driver was able to leave us and pick us up later.

Surco’s Secrets
Jan 2017 • Solo
I am almost reluctant to write this review as it would be a shame if the tourist hoards invaded this delightful barrio. But as I’ve been here for two months I’ve found some of Surco’s secrets.

Plaza de Armas is the cultural heart of Surco. It is a great place to spend some time and people watch. The locals are not used to foreigners here, so don’t be surprised if you get some side glances.

The restaurants are sort of same-same and a touch expensive for this area. If you walk down one of the many side streets, check the boards for a eight to 10 soles lunch – about $2.50 to $3.50USD – that includes a starter and a main.

The Plaza also has a good print shop on the corner and a good shoemaker a few doors down.

The employees of the municipality have a band that plays in the evening in the little amphitheater. The locals – generally 60 plus – dance and don’t mind if you join in.

Its a beautiful place, with a city fastness and great architecture. The people are all dressed well and on their way to seemingly important things. Great restaurants and cabs everywhere.

El Paiche de Oro , amazon cuisine ,come often and do come hungry, large portions
May 2016 • Couples
The four of us had lunch, typical Amazon fresh fish Madura sweet style, and steamed, served tropical fruit salsa and lemon.
I had BBQ 1/2 chicken on the BBQ, delicious, inca cola, and crustal lager beer. Very good lunch, not a fancy place. Had native jungle music being performed while we ate. Very enjoyayable.n could not find this restaurant listed anywhere on Trip advisor. Restaurant by other restaurants and shops.

A beautiful area to live
May 2014 • Friends
I stayed with a 'host family' during an ~12 day trip to Peru. Staying in Surco was fantastic and gave me "the full experience." It was a beautiful area and I felt very safe while there. The only complaint is the distance to anything touristy; but taxi's are cheap!

Nice area to live, but no real attraction for tourists
Dec 2013 • Business
Surco is a very nice part of Lima, an upper/upper-middle class area of town. We felt very safe there (using common sense of course) and it seemed like a fairly central location to Miraflores, Barranco, and other parts of town our mission work took us to (SJL, La Victoria, Lucyana). Plenty of great food and generic shopping available in the area along with parks throughout the district (really, more parks here than any other part of Lima I've seen).

Surco is a great area to live like a local in higher than normal safety. However, there's not a lot of attractions in walking distance. It's definitely a "place to live" rather than a "place to visit"; so if you're planning on a longer stay in Lima, this might be a good jumping off point but isn't a destination in and of itself.
