I’ve been to this Museum multiple times as a child-we used to have (believe it or not) field trips to this museum with our school at least once a year -kids from 5 to 16 years old. I went back to see it one more time as an adult and it has been closed indefinitely! I don’t think they want us to know, the truth, the history of what the catholic church did to “heretics” I.e. those who didn’t agree with them. They are trying to erase the past…

This museum was at the top of my list as I always been fascinated about inquisition. This museum is free and located in the centre so very easy to reach. There was a English speaker guide that showed us everything, luckily we were with just another couple so we asked a lot of question, the guide was great and know everything, lots of information on the wall, history and scene of torture, also the inquisition room with figures of judges. Easy to take picture. Is not a big museum but if you like these stories it will be a great experience.

Unfortunately there was no English speaking guide on duty the day we visited, and all the displays are in Spanish only. There was a large group of high school students touring the exhibition when we arrived, and another group followed.
The exhibits were well displayed and very graphic, including the excavation area.
We found it frustrating, not to be able to interpret the information boards throughout. Being Jewish, we were most interested to find out what emphasis was being placed on the Inquisition, and even more so, what emphasis was being presented to the students - whether the perpetrators are viewed as heroes of villains and the Inquisition regarded as a triumph or a disgrace.
With my limited Spanish I scanned all the boards but found only one which mentioned the Jews, who were, as history records, the principal if not only victims of the Inquisition on the Iberian peninsula and elsewhere. The word used here for victims translates as HERETIC, which seemed to us a complete evasion of the truth.
We passed through Lima for the sole purpose of seeing this museum, and we were disappointed with it.
A final comment: The women's toilets were disgusting - dilapidated, unclean, no paper, doors that did not lock.

.........this museum should be seen to understand the cruelty that was involved with the Inquisition. The space is small, but so is the entrance fee. The displays are few, but cannot be seen elsewhere. Interesting history lesson. Well worth the small amount of time needed to make the tour......

I thought it was just a museum of the Inquisition, but actually it doubles as a museum of Peru's quirky unicameral Congress. The tour of the cells will make any Westerner feel tall, while the struggle to approximate democracy in this wonderful country is a moving story. There's a tour guide, at least in Castillian. Ask about an English tour if you need one.

The Museum shows what has been done to the native people of Peru by the Spanish during the 1400s. Torture is depicted by realistic looking sculptures and displays of structures and implements. "Water-boarding," stress positions, piercing, and placement of victims in cramped containers are scary examples. The purpose of using the procedures was to elicit a false confession or agree to convert to Christianity. The Museum is in the Historic District, close to the Palace, t,he Cathedral and the Courts.

Spain has the distinction of being the country we associate with the Inquisition, however, Peru's is less known and fortunately was not as successful. This was a graphic display of the torture methods as well as the actual room recreated where the council met. It is part of the Peruvian history and a must if you are interested in such. We were pleased to see many locals, albeit the kids loved the display.

Entry is free and you must do this as a guided tour. It's unclear when they do the English tours, when we were there, tour was in Spanish and we don't speak it.
The space is actually quite small and the guide talked a lot in each room where there are no plaques and not much to see. It was overall very boring. Tour was close to 40 mins and the torture reinactment only had 5 devices with plastic figures and the dungeon that you can see is tiny.
We were overall very bored with the tour and underwhelmed by the experience, particularly since Lima and this site was the center of the Spanish Inquisition.
I would pass on this sight.

I think it depends on the day you go. When we went, it was completely empty and unsettling. No one was at the front, so we just wandered in and around the museum. I have no idea if we went in the wrong order, but we went down a tunnel and came up alone in a room full of mannequins being tortured. On the plus side, I've always wondered what it would be like to be in a horror movie.

We were lucky that there were a few English speakers and they gathered us together and we set of round the museum with an English speaking guide great service for free, it was good that they run the various language tours separately as there was only 7 of us it felt like we had the place to ourselves, when we arrived there was a large queue, don't let this put you off as we just went to the door and asked how long the wait, and to our surprise were taken straight in. I agree with previous reviewer you get much more from it with a guide, I don't think there are set English tours but if there are a few, ask for the English guide.

Confused, went today and it was closed but latest review in August 2019 says differently. Has it been moved to somewhere else?
