Spent a day and a half there with a birding guide. A great place to start our Amazon adventure. The trail system is good and the bird diversity is unbelievable. If you go in August, take plenty of water and be prepared for heat/humidity. The birds, monkeys and other critters and plants will take your mind off the heat but it is still there.

If you find yourself in Iquitos and love less touristic things and more nature this is a great place to spend 6-7 hrs enjoying nature and wilderness. Get yourself a guide or do it on your own.
Jhon is a biologist n the area and I had a great time and learned many things regarding the reserve ecosystem.

I visited Allpahuayo Mishana last May, I hoped to see some interesting birds and wildlife that is possible to see there, but I couldn't see many species as I expected to see, also it's normal not to see a lot of wildlife in that type of ecosystem because wildlife that lives there is very restricted to Varillales, but I could see and know something about that special ecosystem called "Varillales", a rare ecosystem found in Amazonas region, and in Allpahuayo Mishina is very common, you'll see forest growing on white sand soil, you'll need more luck if you want to see wildlife, I could see some monkeys and birds, but not the wildlife I expected to see, also if you want to get there, you'll need trasportation like a moto taxi.

This place is not far off from Iquitos and you can see some types of animals in the wild. This is ideal for birdwatching, seeing small monkeys, frogs during the night, snakes and tarantulas.
I enjoyed the place.

Difficult to get to from Iquitos. Took us about one hour by private taxi. If you come by motor taxi will take even longer. We found the walking was super easy (basically flat) and very peaceful. We saw some big trees, many butterflies and a few lizards ... Were hoping for more wildlife, birds, maybe some monkeys? but we were unlucky I guess.
