If you're going to Cusco, you NEED to book with Peru By Locals. Auriol was the best guide. He was so knowledgable, patient, and very funny. Our group had a fantastic time getting to know him and became good friends by the end. The entire team is filled with good people. Their team thought of everything including transportation and food, all while maintaining a relaxed demeanor to accommodate any of our additional requests. If you want to explore Cusco and learn about the history of the Incas all while just having an absolute blast, this is the group for you!

WOW! This was an incredible tour. We did the 2 day Inca trail trek along with the Sacred Valley, ATVing to Salineras de Maras, and Rainbow Mountain. Our guide, Auriol, is so personable, funny, and professional. My entire group enjoyed everything we did and it all went by very smoothly. Auriol is very knowledgeable and can answer any question you have. We became such good friends with him that even after our organized tour, we hung out in Cusco the next day and got ice cream together. Jose, the tour coordinator and guide, is also a wonderful person and we became great friends with him afterwards. If you are going to Cusco, I highly recommend this tour group :)

Peru by Locals provided the perfect experience. From the porters being competent, capable and friendly to the knowledge of our guides it made the vacation, tour and hiking experience superb. Auriel (sp?) was our guide for our first day's tour to see the Moray Terraces, the Maras salt flats, around Urubamba, and finally Ollantaytambo Sanctuary, as well as some local cultural interactions along the way. This was a perfect addition to help acclimate to the altitude in preparation for the Inca Trail and provided an additional foundation for what we would see on the Inca Trail later. Speaking of, Jose was our knowledgeable guide for the Inca Trail into Machu Picchu. Language (English) was not a barrier and he understood and contributed very well to our conversations along the way and was easily understandable. He had knowledge of vegetation, wildlife and significant understanding of the history of the Inca trail and society as well as the cultural aspects that led up to and exist today. On top of that he is also into photography and took some amazing photos along the way while the rest of us were enjoying the views and taking our own photos. Jose was patient and went above and beyond to assist even after our tour was over by sharing and arranging with some of his contacts to assist us in the last few days of our vacation. Again, this was after the tour! He had zero obligation to assist further but did as he did have the knowledge and connections to help. Your situation may vary but I'm grateful for his assistance that was provided in the same way a friend would. Also of note, the food and accommodations that were provided was amazing. None of us left a meal with any iota of hunger and it was very healthy. We were also comfortbale the whole journey thanks to his understanding of the environment and what would be needed along the way as well as patient when we needed to cool off or put more layers on. Also, Jose's experience was crucial for us to see some of the sights at the right time. For example, he was able to get us to a vantage point that was perfect for experiencing a beautiful sunset despite having been hiking half the day in the fog as the clouds rolled in. Local knowledge of the environment and how it affects the weather, despite weather being somewhat of a guess, is critical for a maximized experience! I would have zero hesitation to use the services provided by Jose and Peru by Locals. Should I return to an area they provide experiences for, I will definitely go through Peru by Locals. Thank you Jose and Peru by Locals!

Jose and his crew made the entire experience top notch! The communication beforehand was great while providing details nervous hikers needed. Jose speaks great English and is extremely knowledgeable about the trail, Inca history, and other experiences in the area. My group really bonded with him during the hike and had a blast. We had the best food of our trip on the hike and the sleeping gear was great quality as well. If you are thinking of booking the Inca trail...don't look anymore, Peru by Locals for the win!

We recently (April 22) were guided by Peru by Locals on a 5-day trek via Ancascosha to Machu Picchu. This is a moderately challenging 4-day hiking trek with the last night spent in Aguas Calientes and a day at Machu Picchu. My partner and his brother were a small group guided by Jose and supported by a friendly staff including driver, horseman, cook, and assistant cook. The trip was amazingly well organized; Jose took care of all logistics so all we needed to do was tell him what kind of food we like and the whole trip went off without a hitch. The Ancascosha trek is an alternative trek through Andean highlands and ends at the beginning of the classic Inca Trail. The scenery was incredible and Jose was an amazing guide. As a local, his knowledge and history of the region made the trip extra special. He described the culture, flora, and fauna. We did not see another guided group until our 4th day. In regards to logistics, the Peru by Locals crew fed us well, set up our camps, and took great care of us. At Machu Picchu, Jose was an amazing guide knowing so much about the history and entertaining our abundant questions and inquiries. I felt we had a special guide, especially after hearing other guides around us at Machu Picchu. I highly recommend Peru by Locals if you want a special experience and really want to learn about the native culture and landscape.
