I was visiting Cusco and Peru for a few weeks as a single female, I love salsa dancing, so I did a little investigation and eventually I found Makumberos which ended up being my favorite. It is a small discotec located right between San Blas and the Plaza de Armas. They played a lot of good and classic salsa and bachata music and there was a group of people always dancing. Every once and a while the instructor would bring everyone together to dance and learn the steps. He was very welcoming and made the evening fun for the crowd.
They played a good mix of salsa and bachata and the dance floor was flat and well lit. The seating was comfortable and it was easy to talk to other visitors if you wanted to or just relax and people watch. I had checked out some other dance places and the floors were very uneven, hard to see, or there were a bunch of creepy guys who wanted to dance too close but Makumero had a much more comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. I tried a couple of drinks on happy hour that were delicious as well. I came back a few times and would definitely recommend them to any dancer, or tourist who wants to go to a great Peruvian bar.
