high quality hand made wool products
Dec 2018 • Solo
I stumbled on this place on my way visiting the Inca Museum. They have a wide range of genuine handmade wool based products for sell, and the price seems way much lower than those in fancy shops. My problem with shopping in Cusco area is that almost all shops have identical products that came from mass-production and are very likely to be synthetic but claimed to be sheep/alpaca wool. This shop is a savior for my gift selection, as in the products there are in unique design, genuine wool, handmade, fair priced, with a tag of its producer name, community, time of made, and sometimes a nice description of the weaving pattern, and not to mention it is operated by a NGO. Highly recommended you to stop by, take a look and support the communities.

nice store, good product selections

If you're looking for some unique items or gifts, this shop has a pretty good selection of hand-woven pieces. There are the usual scarves, pouches, bags, etc. There is a large variety of colors and patterns for each type of product, and the store is pretty nice to browse.

Nice shop!

If you're in town I would totally recommend to have a look at this shop. Super close to plaza de armas, it sells fair trade handicrafts products. The money goes directly to the community where the product was made, so you really know who you're financing! I think it's great knowing that money will go to producers in the rural areas and not to some famous brand. I got the most beautiful scarf there. Definitely recommended!

An Interesting Fair-Trade Shop

The Cáritas Cusco Store has a good range of hand-made Andean products, such as scarves, chullo hats, ponchos and bags. It is run by the development NGO Cáritas and the Archbishop of Cusco. All their items come from small communities in the mountains around Cusco and the majority of the money goes directly back to the people who made them.

They also have an interesting little museum beside the shop with displays and videos about the production and dying of the wool and the weaving of the products.

I would recommend a short visit here, especially since it is in the centre, right beside the Cathedral and Plaza de Armas.
