Thanks MUW Travel for a wonderful tour. The planning and pre tour emails were a big help. Everything went smoothly with no hitches.

In short: don`t book your treks with MUW Travel. Reason: they charge double the price, for the same service. We did the Salkantay Trek with MUW Travel and were very disappointed when we found out we paid $410 each, when the average price paid by our group companions was $230. We booked the tour in advance through emails with Alexis (the agency owner) and we thought that, with the time in advance, we would be paying less than if we booked late. In fact, it was the exact opposite. We received the very same basic tour package, with very simple and cheap food (which was almost never enough for our big group); the equipment was fairly old (sleeping bag was ripped and one of the tents didn`t close); and we stayed in a stupidily cheap hotel in Aguas Calientes, that had neither towels nor toilet paper (a couple in our group, that paid $250 for the tour, had a nice 3-star hotel). We tried to argue with Alexis when we returned from the tour, but to no avail. To complicate matters even more, MUW Travel doesn't even have a physical agency, which forced our communications to be always by email, being often very limited. When we gave our arguments about why the agency should return us at least $160 per person, he asked for papers proving the other travellers paid less than us (which of course we didn't have) and justified this problem saying we were moved to another cheaper operating agency at the last minute because of problems with other travellers in our original group. Therefore, we consider this lack of customer consideration extremely unprofessional and, to be honest, unfair. So, our advices are: if you want the basic Salkantay package, book with agencies when you arrive in Cusco. There's plenty of cheaper options always with free space. If you want a higher level tour, there seems to be various others better agencies.

This company is a small travel agency. However they are very detail oriented. I did the Salkantay and it was awesome. I was happy with everything. Food, information and the extra mile that the company goes in order to satisfy your needs. I strongly recommend Muw travel. THANK YOU Alexis and Henry, you both are very professional.

My travel partner and I purchased the Machu Picchu magic day trip departing from Cusco sold on the MUW website (www.machupicchutrek.com). We paid USD$320 per person for pickup from Cusco hotel, Peru rail ticket from San Pedro station in Cusco, bus transportation to the ruins, admission to Machu Picchu, tour guide, lunch and return to Cusco. The above inclusions were confirmed by John Hunter and Kyle Freeman via email. We were picked up from the hotel at the arranged time and were expected to be dropped off at San Pedro station as agreed, but instead drove for 1.5 hours to Ollantaytambo!! To our shock and disbelief, the non-English speaking driver handed us train tickets on Inca rail (which is the CHEAPER and LONGER option; value printed on the ticket $40 both ways) and did not provide admission tickets to the ruins. Since he spoke no English, MUW travel gave him a handwritten piece of paper that read “Meet Washington”!! We arrived in Aguas Caliente at 9AM and waited for “Washington” till 11AM. Repeated attempts to call MUW ended in an unmonitored voicemail box. A representative from Condor travel took pity on us and asked who we were waiting so long for. When we said MUW travel her eyes popped out in HORROR! Her advice: Don’t wait for “Washington” and squander your day, go up to the ruins on your own. As we were about to do just that, “Washington” showed up but had NO IDEA who we were or who we had bought the tour from. MUW DID NOT RESERVE THE TOUR WE PAID FOR. To make the best of whatever time we had left, we paid for the bus, admission to the ruins and the use of a tour guide out of our own pockets. In other words, we paid $320pp for a $40 train ride! In 15 years of global travel I have never been SCAMMED or RIPPED OFF by a tour company until I trusted MUW to deliver the tours they sell on their website. They continue to ignore my emails and phone calls requesting a refund and yet to provide me with an explanation. I am waiting resolution from Paypal for services not rendered. Additionally, I have contacted Direccion regional de comercio exterior y turismo in Cusco who advised me that their license to operate as a travel agent has lapsed, despite the certificate showcased on their website. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM MUW TRAVEL. Alternatively, I recommend Viejes Pacifico as a highly reliable travel agent with an impeccable reputation.

I was a bit hessitant about choosing MUW Travel for my trip to Machu Picchu as I normally go with agencies that are recommended on TripAdvisor but when I checked out their website and started emailing them for prices and information they were so helpfull I just couldn't resist. I'm so glad I chose to trek the Inca Trail with them, it was perfect. Everything from the planning of the trip to the food to the guides exceeded my expectations, it really couldn't have gone any better. They were also alot cheaper than many of the rival agencies!
