Our group of friends chose to do the 5 day 4 night trek with Sam Travel and we had an amazing time! I would recommend this trek and this company to anyone. The trail is obviously beautiful and can be done with many different guides and companies but what I think sets Sam’s apart is the small group size. We had only 6 people in our group which led to a more personal experience with our guide Oscar. Oscar ate every meal with us describing the plans for the next day, it felt like he was a great friend by the end of the trip. During the trek Oscar gave us tons of detail for all the Inca sites and the natural landscape.

Our head chef Andres made delicious meals foe breakfast, lunch and dinner. We never repeated a meal and had a lot of traditional Peruvian food. My favorite dish was Pachamanca, make sure you request Andres so you can try this dish.

Our porters were great as well. All of our belongings were well taken care of and arrived safely at our next camping site everyday.

I would recommend the 5 day 4 night over the traditional 4 day 3 night trek because you get to see Machu Picchu twice and you get to camp at less crowded camp sites.

I did the 3 day tour with a group of friends and I don’t think we could have had a better time!

From the start our guides Raymer (Ray) and Gregory were so friendly, organized and gave us clear instructions which made us feel confident that we chose the best tour guide company out there and let me tell you we did. Ray even gave us the most AMAZING food recommendations for while we were in Cusco!

Day 1 we did the short trek along the Inca Trail to sun gate which was incredible. We enjoyed old ruins, breath taking sites and were having so much fun we were even singing and dancing along the trail. Ray and Gregory went above and beyond taking photos and videos for our group without even being asked which was so appreciated. Ending at Sun Gate with views of Machu Picchu was priceless. Dinner afterwards in town with the group was a lot of fun as well.

Day 2 was our tour of Machu Picchu and hike to the Summit of MP. Ray lead our tour that morning around the archeological site and was so full of knowledge about the site and able to answer all of our questions. We enjoyed watching the sunrise over the mountains and toured until our hike up the summit of MP. It was a difficult hike but with rewarding views. When we were running late back to lunch in Aguas Calientes Ray even took our order to put in ahead of time and got us an amazing table with river views at a cool Craft Beer Lunch spot.

Day 3 was originally supposed to be Rainbow Mountain which was closed so instead Ray suggested Palcoyo Mountain which has all the colors of rainbow mountain but with views along the whole way. We started with breakfast being cooked for us on site and before the hike and ended with a lunch feast waiting for us. It was truly special having hot meals, coffee, lemonade and dessert prepared for us on site. Sam travels is the ONLY tour company to do that and you could tell other tourists were sad they did not have that. We even stopped at a patch of wild alpacas on the way back so we could take some photos and do some dancing for a TikTok video Ray had been putting together over the last few days.

Overall the guides were friendly and knowledgeable, the cooks were amazing and our transportation was always on time. The way Sam Travels runs their tours couldn’t be any smoother!

But finally, I think traveling with Sam Travels was the best choice we could have made and a HUGE part of that was Ray. He took our trip from stress free and enjoyable to the best time I have ever had out of the country. You will seriously regret not booking here and asking for Ray.

Thank you again to Ray, Gregory and the Sam Travels team. I hope to come back and will personally ask for Ray to be my guide!

My wife and I booked the one day Sacred Valley tour with SAM Travel. They were very prompt and responsive by email to confirm our booking. The price was reasonable, and our small group consisted of just us and one other couple. Due to road construction, the tour skipped Pisac and visited Chinchero instead, along with Moray, Maras, and Ollantaytambo. It was a packed itinerary but we never felt rushed. Our guide Rolando was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and he also took great photos of us! He even walked us to our hotel in Ollantaytambo at the end of the day. Lunch was not included in our tour price; the restaurant we stopped at was only so-so and overpriced, which was the only issue we had with our experience. We would definitely book with SAM Travel again.

Our group spontaneously booked a tour of the sacred valley with SAM travel and it was the best decision we made during our trip to Cusco. Of course we came to see Machu Picchu, but we felt like we wanted more, and I’m glad we made that decision. Our tour started in the morning and we made the stops outlined in the itinerary, plus a few more for traditional empanadas, cuy, and to feed llamas and alpacas!!! We absolutely loved learning more about the Inca culture and traditions from our tour guide Liz. Liz was so special to us, and it was obvious that she was very passionate about Incan history. She was very grounded and down to earth, and reminded me and our group what the purpose of our trip to Peru was for - to respect Mother Earth. Liz was so inspirational, she almost had me in tears from her wisdom that she offered us. She reminded us to live in the moment and that is something I’ll never forget. Thank you so much SAM travel and Liz for this experience!

We just had the most amazing classic four day trip on the Inca Trail. I cannot thank Jhony enough for being the most incredible guide. From day 1, his energy was contagious and he brought our whole group together as a family. It is very clear he is so passionate about guiding and sharing his knowledge of Peru, machu Picchu, the Quechua traditions.
Every day was magical as we trekked through different terrains and climates, and every night was memorable as we ate amazing food (thanks Raul!) and played cards together at the camp site. It truly felt like we got extra special treatment; whether we were the only group at the waterfall on day 4 or waiting at a secret spot at the sun gate for the best view.
I would 10000% recommend the Classic Inca Trail, but more importantly I’d recommend doing it with SAM Travel - they really take care of their porters and they are Peruvian run. Plus, johny was the most energetic guide on the entire trek, you could see how much the porters, guides and chefs from the other agencies really respected him.

Thank you SAM travel for giving us one of the best vacations we’ve ever had!!

I HIGHLY recommend booking your 4 day / 3 night Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu with Sam Travel Peru! First off, our guides (Ray and Liz) were absolutely amazing. They were super positive the entire trek and kept our spirits high, even when the weather wasn’t on our side. They also provided a tonne of fascinating information along the way, explaining each of the sites we visited and gave us important background information about the Incan Empire. They truly made the trek an awesome time and our group had so much fun with them along the way. I can’t imagine there being guides better than these two.

Additionally, the food was absolutely amazing! The head chef (Mario) and his team treated us to a wide range of delicious local dishes and large portion sizes that helped refuel us for the long journey. The food was much better than I expected to get on a camping trip, let alone at a restaurant! He even baked us a cake for our last dinner, which was a nice treat.

Lastly, the porters under the supervision of Santiago were an amazing team. They always had smiles on their faces and greeted us with an applause every time we arrived at camp and made us feel at home. I can’t say enough about how hard they worked to make sure our belongings stayed dry and were safely transported each day. It was so nice getting to our tents on the day it rained a lot and having all of our tents and belongings dry! They all made an effort to make sure we were all doing okay along the trek and motivated us to keep pushing forward.

Overall, Sam Travel Peru made this experience truly special and I can’t say enough positive things about everyone involved!

I think this experience is something everyone should give a try with this company. Best tour I have been a part of! The food was different at every meal, day after day. The chefs Andres and Ilberto crushed it in the “kitchen”. The porters were amazing and super friendly. The chief porter Monifacio kept everything done properly, our tents were always ready to go. They impressively beat us from camp to camp every time no matter how hard we all tried to beat them even while they carried ~25kg each. The people were nothing but pleasant and I could not recommend this company for anyone who is interested in doing the Inca Trail. Our tour guide Oscar was quite personable and knew details about everything, even things that were not part of formal tour. Thank you Sam Travel for this beautiful experience and I hope to do another tour in the future with you all!

We did the short Inca trail hike and booked it with Sam travel, we needed a company that would work well with people traveling from different countries for the experience and they did exactly that. They went above and beyond to assist us with speedy responses to queries raised, provided water when we arrived for our briefing at the office and had so much patience as one of our friends were quite nervous. Our tour guide Ray was beyond helpful and patient, not only did he make sure we all felt comfortable while doing the hike, he was well prepared for the small things we forgot. Ray had an amazing photographic eye and he made sure we had all the iconic photos and short videos. We were surprised with a little momento at the end of the tour which was very sweet and unexpected. I would recommend them to anyone looking to tour Peru!

Just finished the 5 day Lares trek with short Inca trail to Machu Picchu trip with Sam travel and led by the gregarious Miguel and team. I cannot say enough about just how incredible this experience was and I have no doubt that much of it can be contributed to the superb leadership of Miguel ( the team of chefs and tireless horse men - Sergio, Rufino, Andres, and Ermino) and organization of Sam travel. From the first pick up at the airport, to our orientation meeting (where they catered to our desire for a short city tour by providing us with one of the top guides I have had .. ask for Nélida!), through the trek with one of the youngest members (age 10 and 12) entertained throughout, to an extremely informative tour of Machu Picchu, where second guide Jimmy joined the team with his bright smile and ability to entertain the kids. I saw many other groups gaze over with envy as Miguel provided animated details that had us leaning in for more. The Lares trek was the perfect combination of hiking to new heights, seeing stunning glaciers and peaks and valleys of the Andes, and enjoying the pastoral setting peppered with Alpacas and llamas. One of the most enjoyable aspects was being able to meet the local people and basically hike the trek alone… definitely not something you get with the classic Inca trail. Many previous reviews have mentioned the food and I could not agree more. The variety and effort along with presentation and fun snacks that helped with the evening chill ( and don’t kid yourself the nights can be freezing!) were a treat. All in all I give the trip 5 out of 5 stars and would gladly recommend Sam travel to anyone wishing the experience of a lifetime in Peru!

This trip was amazing!! We did the 3 night/4 day Classic Inca Trail Hike to Macchu Picchu. Our guide, Carlos, was excellent. He gauged the pace of the group perfectly, made sure we got to see and experience all of the ruins along the way, and was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the Incas. The camp setup was outstanding, all of the porters led by Santiago were incredible. They hauled 25kg/porter of equipment and supplies to all of our campsites before we got there, to watch them in action was impressive to say the least. Mario, our chef, created delicious gourmet meals at every stop, he was traveling with the porters, and made our camp feel as luxurious as you can get when hiking! Overall, would recommend this hike and company to anyone, just make sure to stay up on your cardio beforehand!
