I did the 4D/3N Inca Trail last October. At that point, bugs weren't much of a problem. Sunscreen was an absolute must every day, multiple times a day, even when it was cloudy. The one thing I didn't bring that I wished I had was a sun hat. I burnt my scalp through my hair and had to wear a winter hat for the rest of the hike. I purchased zip off hiking pants from REI for the hike. They were wonderful. I wore them as pants the whole time but my partner occasionally converted his into shorts. I would definitely recommend hiking pants. I didn't have a coat. When it was coldest, I wore a tee-shirt, flannel, sweatshirt, and rain jacket together. Hiking boots that you already have broken in are the best footwear; if you don't have any hiking boots, you should purchase some.
Altitude sickness was a problem for me on Day 2 but drinking plenty of water and chewing coca leaves helped.
SAM Travels Peru will most likely supply you with a packing list. You should follow their advice. Weather information for this time of year can be found online.
I hope you have a great hike! It was a wonderful experience.

Hi there, sorry this answer is a bit delayed. They have a very useful list on their website. I don't know if I could come up with a better list myself. I did have bug spray but didn't find there were all that many bugs. You'll need a variety of clothing, I would recommend lighter pants. Breathable pants are probably your best bet. You'll definitely need a warmer jacket as nights can be chilly. Not sure what the weather is like this time of year but by the sounds of it the weather is quite unpredictable. I would go on SAM Travel's website and ask any questions there. They have someone answering live questions in a message box which was super handy.
