We were totally amazed by how beautiful of everything we saw with this tour! Big thanks to our tour guide Adner, driver Ruben they made this trip extra memorable!! We were originally signed up for small group tour, but ended up only two of us going so it became a private tour!(yes!!) The first day we went to sacred valley and Inca sites around Cusco. I have to say, I’m so glad we went with a tour guide, Adner, explained the history of Inca empire so vivid like we actually back in the Inca time! And actually made us so interested in Inca history! We had our dinner right next to the last Inca site, and tried my first pisco sour there! We highly recommended to stayed at hotel El Albergue in Ollantaytambo, it’s right by the train, it also gets you 10 extra minutes to sleep in for tomorrow’s Inca trail! Second day we were taking a train to start our inca trail, we arrived at the trailhead around 7:30 am. The hotel packed us a nice breakfast togo and we also received a box lunch from Adner! After enjoyed the breakfast at trailhead, we started the excited Inca trail!! On the hike, Adner took his time to explain the purpose of Inca trail and why it existed, I feel like he knew everything about Inca history. And when he was talking about the Inca, I can see the smile on his face and passion in his eyes! The most memorable part about Inca trail is everything! I was amazed by how beautiful the hike was and how lucky we were to be able to be here. After an 8 hours hike, we finally arrived Machu Picchu. It want tired at all, we took many breaks and spent lots of time during lunch chit chatting, also taking millions of pictures along the trail! The hotel we stayed at Aqua caliente is Casa del Sol, highly recommend too! We booked the room with hot spring which is perfect for a long day hike! Third day we were so ready for Machu Picchu, we decided to sleep in a little late and not go up on the first bus. We felt great after we woke up, we also took a hot spring bath and enjoyed the breakfast at the hotel! During this time, the tourists weren’t that many, so we still get to take millions of beautiful pictures with the beautiful Machu Picchu! And Adner always know the best spot to take pictures, shout out to Adner for contributed many of my Instagram pictures haha. After Machu Picchu we dined at a extremely delicious restaurant recommended by Adner, the restaurant is not at the busy part of street and tourists will probably never find it, it’s call Machu Pisco. (Just bookmark it now, don’t wait!) their maracucha pisco is out of this world! And that day was actually my partner's birthday, Adner even asked the restaurant to send us a cake! So nice of him!! On the last day(sadly it has to come), we went to rainbow mountain, we left at 4:00 am and enjoyed our breakfast near rainbow mountain. Not just any breakfast, a full table of delicious food made fresh by the chef who traveled with us that day: Leonardo!! We enjoyed the food with amazing Mountain view, many foods were actually what local Peruvian would eat at their home. So special and so lucky of us. After breakfast, we took the horse up to the mountain and did a little hike(10 mins) and arrived rainbow mountain first!!!! It means a lot of good pictures!! We were enjoyed the view and the accommodation of Alpaca for a good amounts of time, then people started to pour in! So we decided to leave the crowd but before we left, we were stopped by the incredible smell! There’s vendors selling chicharon alpaca on rainbow mountain! One last thing we head out, enjoyed a hot coffee and chicharon alpaca on the mountain. And be amazed by the mountain on last time! I’m extremely happy and satisfied I booked this tour, highly, highly recommend to anyone who’s thinking about coming to Cusco! (Don’t think, just act!) it will be one of your best life time experience!

Incredible Sacred Valley, Short Inca Trail and Rainbow Mountain tour with Jhony & SAM Travel Peru! We decided to book with SAM travel Peru as they work and support local guides, cooks and porters and we can say that we are so happy to have done this amazing 4 day itinereray with Saul and our awesome guide Jhony "Depp" and Saul (manager) behind the scene. Saul was very responsive to all our questions upfront and upon arrival gave us a great briefing to what we could expect during the trip. We booked a group tour but eventually due to the low number of visitors it turned out that it would be just the 2 of us and our (private) guide Jhony throughout the 4 days. Day 1: Sacred Valley Tour We were picked up from our hotel and greeted by our tour guide Jhony (a true Cusquenian speaking fluent English) as we started off with the sacred valley tour visiting all major Inca sites and the amazing saltmines along the valley (Pisac, Maras/Morray, Salinas, Ollantaytambo) as well as hearing interesting facts about them. The amount of information which Jhony provided was just right, making us more exicted to our upcoming visit to MP. The day ended with a refreshing beer in the lovely Inca town of Ollantaytambo. Day 2: Short Inca trail hike (12km) Jhony picked us up from our hotel and together we boarded the train which brought us straight to km 104 which marked the starting point of our short Inca trail hike. We hiked slow but steady, having lots of photo stops along the way and even having some lamas and the cutest lama baby following us! We reached the sungate after climbing the OMG stairs (super steep) and had our first stunning views on MP again with a lama posing just for us! :) The hike down to MP was easy and there were more photo stops. Currently it's only possible to reach the sungate via the short inca trail (as the full inca trail is closed and within MP you can't access it). The bus ride from MP to Aguas Calientes was comfortable and well coordinated. We ended the day with a lovely dinner together with Jhony and were super excited for the official MP visit the next day. Day 3: Machu Picchu visit We woke up super early for the first bus which leaves Aguas Calientes for MP at 5.30AM. Currently there were only a handfull of other people in the queue so you wont need to queue up for hours as in the past (you can also walk up to the entrance which will take approx. 1 hour through the steep jungle). We were a bit concerned that morning because it was raining (yes in June/dry season) and the sky was very cloudy. Once we arrived at the entrance to MP it was super cloudy/foggy and there was drizzling rain!! Again we were so glad to have done the short Inca trail, with that option you get the MP ticket which is NOT bound to a certain timeslot to enter but you can go in whenever you think is good. So we eventually waited paitently with Jhony for almost 2 hours, had coffe and stayed positive until we saw the sky was clearing up and we could have the most unique experience at MP with sun and roling clouds not to mention a fraction of the tourists which would be here in June! No picture can capture the feeling once you stand in front of the MP ruins! We toured along the marked trail with Jhony, who was super supportive and very patient with us taking lots of pictures and explaining the important sites. We got to Aguas Calientes just in time for a late celebration lunch together and boarded the train back to Cusco! Day 4: Rainbow Mountain 5018m After a short but restful night we were picked up at 4AM from our hotel in Cusco for our last tour with Jhony and SAM Travel Peru. After 2.5 hours of car ride we had a nice breakfast made by their chef and started our "ascent" to the rainbow mountain/Vinicunca. Along the way we saw many alpacas and lamas. Some of them are quite used to people and will even pose for a picture. The highlight was the colourful striped mountain itself and the surrounding snow capped mountains and glaciers, especially Ausangate! We were glad that our SAM travel tour started earlier than others, as we saw how many people were doing the ascent while we were already descending. After taking some great pictures and enjoying the Andean scenery we made our way back down and had a super tasty and huge lunch prepared by their chef/cook from SAM travel. We got back to Cusco in the afternoon, full with great memories and a truly unique and personal Peru/Cusco experience. We would like to thank SAM Travel Peru, our exceptional guide Jhony, drivers and cook as well as Saul for going the extra mile and for making this wonderful trip come true!! Facts: - You need to wear a facemask AND faceshield on the trains (airport, planes..) - You need to wear a mask within MP, there a lots of guards reminding you of that but you might be able to take a picture or two without. If you repeatedly don't comply with the rules, they can ask you to leave MP. - The optional hike up to MP mountain or HP is currently closed - Within MP you can only walk in one direction following the path. Once you pass a guard/checkpoint you can't walk back! Keep that in mind for taking pictures at the higher observation spots. Once you're out, you're out! - Touring with a knowledgeable guide is beneficial in many ways, besides having insights on the sacred sites, they know the good photo spots and might be able to chip in a good word with a guard. Our guide Jonny was very well connected and always found a way to make things possible, e.g. seeing the guinea pigs (alive ones :)) - There is the option to ride a horseback if you can't manage the ascent for rainbow mountain. There are many horsemen/women who will gladly assist you. However for the last 10-15 minutes you will need to walk up yourself, also to get to the higher viewpoint. - Throughout our travels in Cusco we were impressed how all people were following the hygiene protocols so strictly without complaining. You will see young kids wearing their facemask with pride! Something fellow travellers should aknowledge. - Before entering any kind of establishment they will take your temperature and spray your hands and sometimes even luggage. - Last but not least: Keep your eyes open for amazing wildlife where you would least expect! We saw a deer traversing the terraces of Pisac and a sleeping chinchilla within MP ruins! :)

We did the full day sacred valley tour. Our guide was David and he was awesome. We picked SAM travel because it seemed to be the only company that hit all the sacred valley sites of Moray, Maras, Pisac and Ollantaytambo. David was a great tour guide. Very knowledgeable and friendly. We mentioned that we wanted to try the local drink, chicha, and he made a detour on our way to stop at a chicha house. (Most likely because we were the only ones on the tour) It was a really awesome time! We’d 100% recommmend SAM travel for your tours!

Hands down the most organized and professional tour company I have ever used! This is a local, Peruvian owned and operated company with great service and knowledge. From the time I first emailed the company to the time we were dropped off after our trek there were zero complaints from our group of 5 adults (each of which have traveled 20+ countries respectively). The Machu Picchu trek was a tough hike (mostly due to the change in altitude for us) but really a super seamless experience. The guide, Dayvit and the driver, Raul were AWESOME! They were extremely attentive and great to be with! The included lunch went far above the normal “sandwich” box lunch you’d expect on a hike. It was real food and delicious. Also, it’s noteworthy that the owner of Sam Travel, also owns a hotel called “Veronica View”with strikingly beautiful views of the Veronica glacier. We chose to stay in the hotel for convenience the night before the trek but were blown away by how beautiful the scenery was! If our 9 days in Peru it was our favorite spot. We also booked a Rainbow Mountain trek through this company and we’re served a hot breakfast and lunch at the base of the mountain by two chefs (Leonardo and Sergio) and their team. Again, the altitude got to us but we were able to make it to the top and had clear skies for incredible views.

We did the full 10 day 9 night Cusco, Inca trail, Machu Picchu, Puno and Lake Titicaca experience with Sam Travel. Our main guide (and now, good friend Raymer) and the owner Saul were amazing! Due to Covid, the 4 day Inca Trail hike was unavailable but they quickly arranged a two day hike to Lares (amazing) and the one day Inca Trail as substitutes and we could not have been more pleased. Their hospitality, attention to detail, service, food (incredible even at 16,000 feet), knowledge, and love for Peru and Pachamama (mother earth) were impeccable and incomparable! A couple of suggestions and one caution: 1. Don't let covid stop you! It is easily doable and prices are low. 2. Do the guided tours/experiences, it is soooo worth it to have access to their knowledge, experience and care...truly worry free. 3. Sam Travel is amazing...book today! I'm sure you won't go wrong with any guide from Sam Travel but we know you will have an AMAZING time with Raymer and you will leave Peru with a new friend. 4. We are here in June 2021 - BOOK NOW! Not only were there no crowds at any site (including Machu Picchu) but we literally had them to ourselves. There were a few groups at Machu Picchu but literally nobody at most of the other sites. IT WILL LIKELY NEVER BE THIS GOOD AGAIN! Did we say book now? Cautions: 1. Be kind and patient with Sam Travel, in much of the back country it is difficult to have 5 star entities. They do an amazing job but it will help to recognize what they are working with and that you signed up for an adventure not a spa. 2. The new hotel they are working with at Ollantaytambo (Veronica View) was still working out some kinks as of June 2021 but soon it will be amazing. Be patient and give Saul your suggestions...he is very open to feedback and wants Veronica View to be best experience of your adventure. 3. If you happen to be a gordito like me, then you will want a Sam Travel souvenir t-shirt in 2XL. Sadly, right now they only have up to XL 🥺 - please add your vote to mine that they take care of us "big boned" folk as well. Such a wonderful experience...Thank You Saul, Raymer, Fortunato, Nicanor, Sergio, Clever and Fausto - BEST TEAM EVER! AND, let me add that Peru is AMAZING and totally worth your time!
