Cusco is a haven for textile lovers, but this gallery would satisfy all art lovers. It is a museum of the private collection of Maximo Laura, his tapestries are works of art with extraordinary beauty, the colours, the textures, the imagination; contemporary art rich with symbolism of the culture of his country. The gallery/museum is located in the lovely San Blas neighbourhood where one can find many shops and restaurants. There is no entrance fee to this museum, and some of the works are for sale.

...an excellent fusion of tapestry craftmanship combined with fine artistic expression...
... a unique art gallery that offers the finest, contemporary Peruvian fiber art of the 21st century...
The museum displays large tapestries which combine figures, symbols and colors that tell stories, as well as portray ritualistic and folkloric images with universal appeal.
We didn{t have to pay anything for this very memorable visit!

These tapestries are amazing, colourful and so much time would have been spent on them. The longest 1 year and 3 months

Well, their website says it was open. Google Maps said it wasn't. Google Maps was right.
You can see some random pieces or similar in town... the museum seems promising. Unfortunately, I missed it.

This tiny museum contains the weaving and views of Maximo Laura. It's inspirational stuff … wonderful colours and capturing the spirit of those scenes and souls he weaves about. If you have between 500 and 5000 dollars - you can roll on of the exhibits up - and take it with you. Perhaps worthwhile for such beautiful work from a really talented artist. A 'must see' if you are in San Blas.

This wonderful museum definitely should be included in Boleto Turistico.
Images are very complex with lots of hidden details that one might find after longer examination. Colors are carefully chosen and incredibly vivid. Even for incompetent people like us it is obvious that these tapestries are made with sophisticated techniques. No doubt a part of Maximo Laura’s soul is inwoven into every single piece.
The lady on site provided a quick tour with explanation on certain displayed tapestries then we were let to stroll around the place on our own. As we were admiring these fascinating tapestries one by another we could not help falling in love with Maximo Laura's art.
We were unable to resist the temptation and bought an original masterpiece made by Maximo Laura. Much to our regret we did not have the chance to meet the artist in person however the lady at the museum willingly provided an email address in case if we had any question in relation to our new treasure.
If I had to choose only one place to visit in Cuzco it would be this marvelous museum for sure.

We were lucky enough to stumble upon this place while wandering around Cusco one morning. We got a full tour of the museum and detailed explanations of many of the wonderful textile works! Laura is a master weaver and uses texture and color perfectly to tell Andean stories, but with a contemporary flair! We ended up going back and purchasing a piece and already have it hanging in our home!

The tapestries in this museum/store are amazing. The artist combines his traditional knowledge practiced from centuries before and his super creative modern ideas in most amazing colors and textures. The prices for tapestries are very reasonable, considering their beauty and how much work put to make them, we didn't buy any of them just for the reason that we have absolutely no available space on our walls at home since we already have many paintings on our walls (we are a family of artists). Otherwise I would buy as many as I could!

The weaver that weaves the fabrics is quite talented. This is a good place to spend 30 minutes. His works range from several thousand of dollars up to $100,000 or so in US dollars.

Maximo Laura is a ine of a kind great artist and a national treasure, as declared by the Peruvian government. I hqd the honor to visit his museum while visiting Cusco. His works of art are amazing. The way he weaves and uses colors and Incas traditions is so unique to him. His works are irresistible that I bought 2 of his wonderful works which were shipped to my address in Qatar in less than 2 weeks. The wonderful team who are running the museum are so kind and very helpful. The museum of Máximo Laura is high recommended.
