Mundo Antiguo is great for Spanish students of all levels. I wrapping up two weeks worth of private lessons and it's so exciting to be able to use words and phrases I've learned in my other activities in Cusco.

There wasn't a group available at my level so I was placed into private classes at a slightly different fee and it was totally worth it. The instructors are all local native speakers and the staff is awesome. The right mix of intensive studying in a casual, conversational setting

Highly recommend!

My wife and I (both recently retired) did a week long Spanish course before continuing our travels in South America. The teachers were fantastic…well organized and incredibly friendly, the school very central, the outside activity co-ordinator full of fantastic ideas for enjoying Cusco. We thoroughly recommend Mundo Antiguo Spanish School!

Had such a great time (twice!) attending this Spanish school for three weeks. The teachers are excellent and adjust to your knowledge and needs. The owners are lovely and create a friendly and familiar atmosphere. Activities that are run in addition are good fun and allow for friendships to be made. Being in our 50/60’s didn’t matter. We were included and made to feel welcome.
I came 3 yrs ago also on my own for 3 weeks and needed to come back with my husband !

Wouldn't have wished for a better experience. Koen and Carina are amazing people and they make the stay an unforgettable one! Highly recommended!
I chose to stay with a host family, which I've also been also very happy with.
I took classes and the homestay for 2 months, and will definitely be back soon. I was an absolute beginner when I started, and really feel like I have a decent grasp on Spanish now!

Great school! We were there for two weeks to improve our spanish for our trip. The teachers are really cool and professional and the atmosphere in the school was really kind and it felt like a little home. The clases are small so the pace of learning is huge and so much fun. We met a lot of great people in the school and had fun a lot of fun with them at the activities in the evening. Would love to come back one day!

I stayed in Cusco for over 1 month with a main objective to take spanish classes. I didn't start from a beginners level but I found taking private lessons to be the best option.

I was initially overwhelmed with all the language schools in Cusco especially on deciding which one? I went to a few to get a feeling for the location, atmosphere, teaching style and price (of course). Some schools were not suitable at all because it was clear they were disorganized and money driven. However, when I found Mundo Antiguo there were so many positive factors that made me decide on this place, and I'm glad I did because I had the best month of spanish classes.

1. They give you a free 30 min trial to assess your level and so you get a feel for the place (other schools didn't do this at all) they also give you your workbook free, some other schools make you pay for it. The cost for classes are affordable.

2. It's a relaxed comfortable and friendly environment. You can change teaches if you like, they are genuinely attentive to make sure you're benefiting from your classes. Norma, Rik and Cynthia are such lovely people. Thank you for making me feel so welcomed and cared for.

3. The teachers are fantastic and experienced! I had 2 different teachers during my time there. I found Jimmy to be such a wonderful, talented and easy going teacher. You can tell a good teacher if they're able to make you talk about things that interest you while also teaching you your weak areas in a clear way. Thanks jimmy for everything! You're the best! :)

4. Their homestay option with Lara and her family was amazing!! the price is so reasonable for what you get (private room, great hot shower, home cooked meals, tv etc..) they are the loveliest family you'll ever meet, I absolutely fell in love with them. They're so welcoming and caring.

Trust me, searching through the schools in Cusco can be a horrible task. I was extremely happy with what I gained from my time at Mundo Antiguo. Make sure you change teachers if you're gonna be there for a while, it's definitely worth it. You learn so much more for some reason, I was glad I did! Happy learning :)

Our family of 4 went to language school here for 4 hours a day, for 4 weeks. The price of the school is better than most, especially with the "backpacker discount" you get if you are a member of the South American Explorers Club. Rik found our apartment for us which was "fully furnished." (I put that in quotes because we had to buy towels and multiple different items, including a knife, for the kitchen.) It was a 15 minute walk from the school and served us well for our month in Cusco. Rik also arranged most of our travel for the other 2 1/2 weeks we were in Peru. For the most part this went off without any trouble and we appreciated having his help arranging these things.

I have been to Spanish school in Costa Rica and Guatemala so I have some background comparison. We started out with 2 hours of class in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. This is what Rik recommended. It did not work well for us because we felt we were always in school or going to school, so we weren't able to do many activities. For the last 3 weeks, we changed our schedule to just go for 4 hours in the morning. This was better because we had the afternoons to explore. Rik wanted us to have 2 different teachers each day, saying he thought this breaks things up and makes it easier to learn. This might be true if there was some sort of curriculum the teachers all follow but there isn't. They do have books of exercises but teachers skip around and since the teaching isn't from this, only the exercises, they all have different styles of teaching. When I've been to schools in the past I've changed teachers each week, but not each day. During my last week, I had Jimmy for all 4 hours and I think this was my best week. The school is good at what they do but don't solicit much input to see what travelers are looking for. They are very flexible- lots of people just take an hour of class a day, or even have a lesson once a week. But this makes it harder for scheduling because everybody isn't on the same schedule as they have been at the schools I have attended in the past. Our kids are 6 and 8 and we put them in the same class. Their first teacher, Karina, was good but went on vacation after the first week. We had some trouble with teachers speaking too much English to the kids- I don't think they have very much experience teaching younger children, especially when they can't yet read and write very well. Amauta was the kid's favorite as she took them to a playground each day. We are trying to continue Skype lessons with her for our son, because he loved her so much. If I were to go back to Cusco to study Spanish again, I would start with this school but would ask more questions and have more requests up front. I think for the kids I would look to see if any other schools have a more solid curriculum and more experience. That said, we didn't look for any other schools while we were there because we were having a pretty good experience and really appreciated all of the travel and accomodation help Rik had given to us.

I moved to Cusco for 6 weeks as I am traveling South America for 6 months. My main goal and deliverable was to become truly competent with speaking Spanish. I grew up in California where it would open a lot of doors for me. So, as soon as I set foot in town I started sifting through the plethora of schools and found Mundo Antiguo Spanish School through the South American Explorers club. The club is a wealth of information for budget travelers and it was the first one recommended to me. They definitely have some of the best prices! Yet they give so much more value than the majority of the other schools. Upon arrival Norma (the founder) and her husband Rik sat me down and greeted me as an individual with free coffee and tea. They are very nice people and their service is impeccable. They speak a few different languages. Thereafter, Norma conducted a free 30 minute assessment for my placement. I had the option of being place in a group of 3 or 4 persons at the same level, but opted for personal classes 2 hours per day. They have classes for all levels of commitment and are very flexible. I was given a work book at no addition cost. Most other students I met during my stay were not gifted a workbook or free daily coffee and tea to get the brain stimulated. The next day I had a teacher. His name was Jimmy. His name was actually Jimmy Hendrix (Peruvians have two first names and last names) and he was a prefect fit for me. He was actually recommended from a past student. He takes you through the lessons at your own pace. He is great teacher. Always on time and had great energy. He was very keen and aware on your progress. I highly recommend him! Tell him I say hi! All in all, my 5 weeks at the school helped immensely! I even met a gentleman that runs away from the winters in North American that has come back 4 or 5 years in a row to continue his education. I feel confident as I continue my travels and hone my skills. I thank the comfortable atmosphere and family of teachers for a great experience. I learned more in my 5 weeks than all of my high school and university classes. The school is perfectly located near the main plaza and has been around for some time. They will be there when you visit. They will be there for a long time. I doubt you will find another school with the same quality! I might even take Skype lessons with them as I am in different countries. Mundo Antiguo Spanish School is worth it. Take advantage of their flexibility and professionalism while in Cusco. You will be thankful because learning the language allows to absorb the culture so much more!

I have studied at several schools in Guatemala and Nicaragua, Mundo Antigua compares favorably with the better schools in those countries in both quality and price. The Peruvian accent is easy to understand and in general Peruvians don't speak as fast as Mexicans and Spaniards. My teachers, Juan Carlos and Carina, were very good and had more education than most Spanish teachers I have had. All the other teachers were friendly. Before signing up for classes Norma conducted an interview at length to determine my Spanish level. She is the first Spanish teacher at a language school I have met who knew that in theory English has a subjunctive. On several occasions she asked how the lessons were going. Rik, who is from the Netherlands, is the business manager, and is helpful, friendly and informative. I appreciated the fact that Rik spoke in Spanish except for an occasion when I could not express myself in Spanish.

The school is one block off the Catedral taking Triunfo, the street running parallel to the Catedral to the right of the Catedral. It is easy walking distance from most hostels or hotels around Plaza de Armas. Among the features I liked about Mundo Antiguo were no "registration fees" that I had two different teachers 2 hours each per day. In my opinion listening to 2 different teachers is good practice listening and a good opportunity to learn about Peru from 2 different perspectives. The price was 24 soles per hour(8$) for one on one classes, an extremely reasonable price.

We are a family of 4 (2 adults, one 18 year old and one 12 year old). We have finished 20h of Spanish classes with this school. We all individually really appreciated the teachers, the method, and the material offered. We are much better equipped with our new knowledge of the language to continue on with our travel in Peru in the coming months. It was useful, it was fun...we highly recommend this school!
They were great in accommodating our availabilities. Communication via e-mail was efficient. We were able to get details and answers to our questions, and even speak via Skype before our arrival in the country to place each of us in the appropriate spanish level!!
Don't hesitate call or write and reserve!
