Kuoda Travel is the best travel agent in the world! And we travel a lot and all over the world. We have used Kuoda Travel for three separate trips (i.e., Peru, Argentina and Ecuador) and they have been amazing guides and partners for each of the trips. Mery takes care of you like family. No request is too small. And she truly cares. We are treated like VIPs by all of the local guides. And the guides are incredible. So knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We just returned from Ecuador and they handled the Covid situation brilliantly. The guides wore masks the entire time. The hotels were incredibly vigilant such as requiring that you walk through de-sanitizers before entering their premises. Restaurants practiced extreme social distancing. I felt very safe. Certainly safer than at home. Anyway, I cannot recommend Kuoda Travel enough. Amazing group.

Last winter our group of six sought a travel specialist to design a custom trip to Peru for June 2020. After closely evaluating several in-country travel agencies, we chose Kuoda based on its on-line reputation and our interaction with them by phone. We had no first-hand knowledge from anyone who had used them in the past, so it was a bit of a gamble. COVID-19 began to ramp up in Peru just as our final deposit for our June trip was due. It was a difficult situation but Kuoda proved to be a travel company of the highest integrity. Over several months, we received multiple emails from founder, Mery Calderon, that assured us they were working hard to minimize our out-of-pocket losses and were putting their clients first - which they did. Our travel planner, Theresa, was very responsive and clearly laid out our options to postpone or cancel. We decided to postpone with the full confidence that our eventual travel in Peru will be expertly handled by Kuoda. Very impressed.

We booked a private tour to Peru and Bolivia using this agency. They communicated quickly and efficiently, and suggested an excellent itinerary, as well as some first class hotels at a reasonable rate. When we had to make changes to our itinerary, they accommodated our wishes without hesitation.

I should start by saying that I usually plan our own trips and I am extremely picky and hard to please since I usually do plenty of research months in advance and plan everything from hotels, activities and food. However, when I started researching Bolivia, I knew we would need some help. I researched different travel agencies and received a couple of quotes, however I am so glad we decided to go with Kuoda Travel. Urpi was the person that helped me plan a perfect itinerary, I told her the places I wanted to visit and she came up with the perfect itinerary. There are different budgets you can choose from and different hotel categories. It was our anniversary so we splurged. They oversaw every detail from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. We had a representative (Mariela) that came to meet us at the hotel in person just to give us a small gift and introduce themselves, then throughout the trip she would text me each day to make sure everything was going well, she would answer all my questions and changed a few dinner reservations for us, due to some mild schedule changes to our Uyuni flights. We had one day where I had requested a market and food tour, and they had plan a nice market tour but not much street food, I realized they had booked a very nice place for lunch and we were not going to be tasting much "street food". I told our guide (Evelyn) I did not want to eat at a restaurant and that I wanted real Bolivian street food. They advised me against it due to the possibility of GI problems etcs, we told them that we did not care, we had done this before and always come prepare with meds in case they are needed. Right away they changed our itinerary and we went around the local markets eating delicious street food, it was amazing... and no we did not get sick! Evelyn had great knowledge of local food and the best places to get them. Anyways I wrote this experience, because there is an example on how flexible they were and how fast they would accommodate to make us happy. Next thing, our guides and drivers were amazing, they felt like family and were well prepare to tell us about each place we visited in detail. In La Paz we had Ivan as our driver and Jaime and Evelyn as guides ; in Uyuni salt flats we had Marco as our driver, Bruno as our guide; in Ojos de Perdiz and beyond we had Elias as our driver and Andrea as our guide. Again all excellent, professional, pleasant individuals who we would choose over and over again. Always on time, no complaints, only positive things and amazing memories they are a part of. I will be planning other trips to South America and if I decide I need help, I will not look any further than Kuoda travel again. Thank you Kuoda team for an unforgettable experience!

Dear Kevin, Thank you so much for your wonderful and detailed review! We are very glad that our Urpi was able to put together such a wonderful itinerary in Bolivia for your anniversary! And it's so great to hear that you enjoyed your street food tour so much! And we will make sure that this gets to your guides and drivers - all of our guides and drivers are very passionate about the different places visited and explored, and so they will be over the moon to hear how much you enjoyed spending time with them! We do look forward to hearing from you in the future next time you are able to visit South America! Until then, stay safe, and warmest regards from all of us! - The Kuoda Family

Overall I am not sure our experience was worth the price. We traveled with children and did appreciate the transport; our driver was prompt and very nice and car seat was provided. However little issues with our overall guide experience did not add up pleasantly. The first day we had a last minute change in schedule that meant a day that was hours shorter and one site not visited at all- we were told the person who made the schedule did not account for driving and it was 'too much' (for who I'm not sure). We asked for changes to meals to accommodate our young children and were told everything was paid for and no changes could be made. Our guide was often on his phone and we had to prompt him for information or conversation. The stops we made at times lacked authenticity. (at one meal I asked if it was Peruvian and the guide flatly said no and implied it was catering to our 'fancy' tastes, though I'm not sure what this was based on.) On our departure we were supposed to be met for a meal before a connecting flight and no one met us at all. When we called, the person we initially spoke to did not know who was to meet us and initially offered no help or solution at all. We had no way of making it to the meal because of delays with baggage (also no help there) but were told it was nonrefundable (though with some pushing they gave us a portion of the cost). As an experience that prides itself on helping with everything and being flexible/accommodating, I found this lacking. When we mentioned this to the owner, she did send a very nice email that said I'm sorry but essentially nothing else. In general I felt the cost of accommodations, food, etc. in Peru was very reasonable for high quality (ie could be a great trip on any budget), but the quality of this guide experience did not seem to add up to the overall cost of using the service (which we were also told could not be itemized).

Dear vistor1, Thank you so much for taking the time to give such detailed and valuable feedback! We are happy to hear that you had a good experience with your transport and driver, and very sorry to hear that the overall guide experience was not great, and for the confusion at the airport in Lima on your way home. Thanks for letting us know about this situation. As a result of your feedback, we have improved the training for our guides, as well as put together better criteria for which restaurants offer child-friendly options, among other improvements. Again, we do apologize for the difficulties you experienced during your travels with us. Thanks to you, we have taken measures to ensure this does not happen in the future. Thank you again for helping us to improve! I hope you are staying safe and healthy where you are! Warmest regards from Cusco, -The Kuoda Family
