My last trek in Peru was 12 years ago, on the Inka Trail. I returned for a month and finally did the Salkantay Trek with PumaPath along with old 4 friends. Compared to the first trek years ago, the entire experience was like leaping from an old black & white movie into a wide-screen, 3D Technicolor Trek!
We had the best, fresh cooked, food, happy horseman, and chef who seemed to haul a 5-star restaurant with him – and Eddy our guide was - so many amazing things - so passionate about his culture, and so personable and as interested in us as we were of him, and so professional getting us there and back safely, and adapting to our creaking bodies, and the changing terrain. What also really impressed us was how well PumaPath treated everyones who works for them (unlike the cavalier attitude of the previous tour company towards their guides). Eddy was very knowledgeable about the Incan ways, history and culture, as well as the geography, flora and fauna of the entire region. It's the first time - anywhere - that I've felt as if this trek was personalized just for us. My exhausted but smiling friends and I agreed on one thing - PumaPath Trek was our best outdoor experience ever.
