Had an amazing 5 days, the trek itself was breathtaking with a great mix of landscapes from snowcapped Salkantay to jungle cloudforest and then the hotsprings at Santa Theresa and Macchu Picchu of course lived up to expectations. The guide Miguel was great company always fun and helpful and not to mention the food every meal was fantastic and very plentiful - recommended!

Prior to my visit to Peru I conducted extensive research and began preparing for myself & 4 of my closest friends to travel from the United States to Cusco in the quest to climb a mountain and explore Machu Picchu. I learned about the Mt. Salkantay trek in a cover story in National Geographic Adventure "Top 20 Treks of a Lifetime" and began looking for that perfect company to trek Mt. Salkantay.

When I came across Cusco Expeditions and saw the price for a Five day/four night trek to Mt. Salkantay down to Machu Picchu I thought it was to good to be true since all the other tour companies were more expensive. After asking them more details and speaking with the gentlement who would be our guide on the phone I knew that I had found the right fit for us!

Our guide, Edgar, met with us at our hostel the night before our departure and gave us a map and debriefing of our adventure that would be taking place the next five days and the next morning picked us up for our Mt. Salkantay Trek. Edgar took care of us on our journey and went at our pace!!! I have traveled all over the world (32 countries to date) and have experienced many different guides and tour companies...Cusco Expeditions is hands down my most memorable experience!

I can honestly say I would trust Edgar & all the staff at Cusco Expeditions with my most treasured friends & Family members...AND I HAVE done just that & recommend Edgar (Cusco Expeditions) to all my Friends! I know anyone trekking, weither it be their first time (like us) or more advanced trekkers, will not be disappointed.

I look forward to returning to Peru and visiting other parts of the Andes with Cusco Expeditions and hopfully I will be able to trek with Edgar again!

Had a great Salkantay trek with Cusco Expeditions; from the first chat in their office, to the preparations, and throughout the entire trek, everything was really well organised and we were well taken care of. The guide was great, the food was amazing, and the equipment (tents, sleeping bags, mattrasses, etc) all in very good condition. Definitely recommended.

We were overwhelmed by the excellent level of service that was provided by Cusco Expeditions - it exceeded all of our expectations and made our Salkantay Trek such a memorable experience. From beginning to end, everything was exceptional - the food was restaurant quality (no exaggeration!), the porters were unbelievably hard working and professional, our guide, Hector, was a hero, a gentleman, an entertainer and of course a great guide - someone who we now count as a friend. I cannot recommend Cusco expeditions enough, and in my opinion, they are the best operator currently working on the Salkantay.

Thank you very much all at Cusco Expeditions!

Completed the Salkantay trek with Henry our guide from Salkantaytrekking.com . Was a great experience. The trek was challenging but the scenery made it worthwile.

Salkantaytrekking were good, we were briefed in their office the night before the trek and really felt the company was pretty well organised. Everything from tickets to machu picchu and huayna pichhu to trains and bus transfers were organised for us.

The food was great too.. hot meals breakfast, lunch and dinner. Tents were dry and sleeping bags warm.. what more do you need

My wife and I, both experienced travellers and hikers feel that our trip with Salkantay Trekking on our 5 day trip to Machu Picchu was one of the most increible experiences of our lives.

Edgar and our guide Hector both worked tirelessly to be sure every detail was completely worked out. From the pick up at the airport, to the hotel accomodations, tours, food, camps, and the visit to Machu Picchu, our trip was completely taken care of. Modifications to meet our needs were easily and effortlessly handled. Each day, we were briefed on options and what was in store.

The experience of visiting the Sacred Valley, ruins and sites around Cuzco, combined with the incredible beauty of the high Andes mountains while hiking along the Salcantay Trail just amazed us. The camp food was nothing short of phenomenal. I have never eaten such good food while out camping. Totally gourmet.

One of the highlights was the visit to the hot springs on day 4, and the zip lining with our group. We will never forget those moments. However the true apex of the trip was the chance to spend 2 full days exploring Machu Picchu including climbing both Huayna Picchu AND Mt. Machu Picchu. If you come this far, consider taking the extra time to completely take in this incredible site.

Finally, my thanks to Edgar for your personalized attention to detail and for customizing and caring for us along the way. You have my personal grattitude and my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

I just completed the 5 day Salkantay Trek with David as our guide. I've never backpacked nor hiked overnight, so I was nervous going into the expedition. But the crew was terrific and made the trek easy and quite enjoyable. From what I hear, the Salkantay trail is a much better hike than the Inca trail since there are fewer people and horses are allowed on Salkantay, so the cooks can carry more (better) food, and you carry less in your daypack. The views of the mountains were incredible and reminded me of my home, Colorado. The biggest drawback was getting a little stomach sick on the hardest day of hiking. However, the crew had some remedies (I had Immodium too) and paced our group so that I didn't feel overwhelmed. The rest of the hikers were also a lot of fun, which I know isn't something the company can control, but it made the experience all that much better.

I got to swim in a glacial lake, shower in a river waterfall, relax in beautiful mountain hot springs, and of course spend the last day in Machu Picchu. Well worth the cost.

Tips: Bring a headlamp, swimsuit, anti-diarrheal, and deodorant. Pack your day pack lightly and let the horses do the work for you. And don't forget DEET for mosquitos on the last three days.

It was my first trip in Peru and it was very well planned by staff of Salkantay Trekking, we had an amazing hospitality and making sure we had the best experience possible in Peru
our hike was a priceless experience, but for what we paid the value for money was incredible - we met many other groups along the trek who paid a lot more and received much less!
If someone is interested in a have a great experience with a professional organization to an appropriate price, Salkantay Trekking is recommendable without any doubt!

In July I did the Salkantay Trek (an alternative trek to the Classic Inca Trail) with the "Salkantay Trekking" tour group. IT WAS INCREDIBLE!!!!! I could not have asked for a better organization. Edgar is one of the coordinators, and he always answered any questions I had in the months leading up to the trek-- he was great! Our tour guide, Roger, was so wonderful, too! I got very sick from altitude on the second day, and Roger was so patient in helping me survive the hike while I was sick. The trek itself was absolutely gorgeous! You cover all kinds of terrain- a glacier, tropical/rainforest, mountains galore, and you even get to relax in a hot spring! Our two cooks were phenomenal- I didn't expect to eat such feasts every meal! I literally have no complaints from this trek. I highly recommend it- an experience of a lifetime!
