We had a wonderful experience today on the train from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu ... the train itself is roomy, with large windows reaching up into the roof of the train, so the views are incredible. You also get complimentary tea/ coffee and carrot cake!...More

I can’t help you. We stayed in Cusco and used a guide. She handled all transfers including private transportation. I personally would’t do it without a guide the entire time.

Inkarail vs Perurail? Vistadome vs. Executive class? (2 Replies)
Hi Does anyone have an opinion if one of the rail lines is nicer than the other? Is it worth the extra expense for the Vistadome? Do you recommend the Vistadome or Executive class on Inkarail over their tourist class? It is more expensive to do the Vistadome--is it worth it? Thanks for any input.

Is the fresh fruit and veggies served on the PeruRail... (6 Replies)
How is the food on the PeruRail Vistadome Train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes? I've seen pictures of fresh fruit and veggies. Is it safe to eat not peeled or cooked like past suggestions I've read?

Fresh fruit and veg? I don't recall seeing any of that. Just some packaged stuff which we declined. It's a short train ride and you can either bring your own food or eat before/after.

PeruRail Vistadome seating (3 Replies)
Finally was able to secure our PeruRail tickets! Yay! I had read on another thread that the seating vista dome had some seats that were 2s and others that were 4s (with 2 facing each other if that makes any sense). Is there anywhere I can find out what type of seat we were assigned to? Our tickets state we are in A1 & 2 on the way to Aguas Calientes and in A 47 & 48 on the way back.

Here a post from April 1st, 2011 from FourBlackstone, a fellow traveller, hope he do not mind I am copying it to you: "We had A1 and A2 both directions. Going to AC they were the best seats - facing a big windows in front of you like you were the conductor. Actually the conductor was right next to us in a booth. Coming back A1 and A2 were the last two seats in the car, but it was after dark so it didn't matter. I think the seats are assigned sequentially as they are booked. You were...More
