Small but interesting (and free!)

This was a nice little place that we stumbled upon very close to Saqsayhuaman. It was small and not super well organized, but the information they did have was super interesting! They also had a nice garden where you could see some of the herbs and other plants growing. Definitely worth a quick stop, mostly because it's free.

Unique and informative

We very much enjoyed our visit to this quaint museum. It is in a relatively small venue that is, unlike many modern museums, very down to earth. There are guided tours in Spanish or English, a gift shop, and a small café. Subject matter and displays are not fancy, but are fairly well-detailed with accurate info. We were just checking the website and email address and both seem to not be functioning, We do not know if the museum still exists because of this. Someone please let us know!

It's free!

It's a pretty chill museum. You go, wander, learn, and nothing else is expected of you, The presentation, design, and title cards could be nicer, but it is free, so I'd better not complain. I will visit again. It's cool to learn about plants.

Learn & Eat at the same time..sort of!

Loved it, but I am a science geek so may not be everyone's cup of tea. It is more of a shop than a museum in many ways, but the museum part is a lot of reading, and that takes a lot of time. But it is all very interesting, I liked it and made a special trip back to enjoy the cafe and look at the shop. Also next to the "chocolate museum"

As of November 2014, this place no longer exists. Just writing the review to stop anyone making the trip as I did...a shame, would've liked to visit!

Ethnobotanical Plants

If you are wondering if chewing coca leaves will help you climb the Andes with extra energy and a great mental state this museum is an excellent stop. I loved the beginning video which shows the importance of plants in daily life and in honoring the gods. I particularly enjoyed reading about all the medicinal plants. Afterwards There is a nice relaxing cafe to enjoy a good herbal tea. The store has a great selection of medicinal products but the prices are high. You are better off buying your Maca in the San Pedro Market.

be prepared to do a lot of reading!

At S/15 per person, I thought this museum was overpriced. It is a relatively small space that I felt focused too much on coca and then just chucked in some information on a couple of other things as an afterthought. While all the displays are in Spanish, there are VERY detailed English translation cards in ‘pockets’ on the walls and I found all the reading quite tiresome. There were definitely some things that I did find very interesting (the history of Coca-Cola, Ayahuasca display and information on Biopiracy), but I felt that it all could have been presented in a much more concise manner that would make the whole experience feel less like a chore. There is a small gift shop at the entrance/exit and a patio with a sad-looking collection of plants (and supposedly a café, but it didn’t appear to be open when we visited).

Convenient location, not worth the money

Thought this might be interesting however, not everything was translated in this self-guided small museum. Some exhibits (like the history of Coca-Cola) were very interesting to look at. Not worth the price of admission.

Fascinating history of some traditional Andean plants used throughout the ages. Information provided in English was good (and thorough), staff friendly and helpful. I went to learn about medicinal plants but learned more about traditional ceremonial plants and the dreadful way some in the West have tried to patent these for personal profit, leaving traditional users with no 'rights' to do as they have for centuries.

Depends on what you want...
...and this is not what I want. S/.15, way too much reading materials (and Its not easy reading...) and very very limited plants. Unless you are an enthusiast with reading about different types of plants, I won't recommend it.
