We traveled from Cusco to Machu Picchu on March 14, 2022 with a family of 5 - 2 adults, 2 children (aged 8 and 14) and grandma. We used the bimodal (bus and train) transportation to Machu Picchu. The check-in process was efficient and conveniently located in Cusco. The roads were a little rough, but the bus was comfortable. When we arrived in Ollantaytambo, we had about 40 minutes before the train departed. There was a comfortable lounge for waiting with Wifi and clean bathrooms. The train ride was great, with awesome views and they let us go to the second car to get pictures from a "balcony" on the train. When you arrive in Aguas Caliente, there weren't any signs, but there is only one street, so you can find the buses up the mountain easily. Anywhere along Cusco/Machu Picchu route, there are always street vendors selling anything you need, from candy and soda to face shields and everything in between. Overall, I liked the Inca Rail service and it was less expensive than Peru Rail.
My only complaint was that face shields were required on the train in both directions. We rode on the bus for 2 hours with only a mask required and then suddenly you have to wear a face shield on a less-crowded train. That just doesn't make any logical sense.
