You can see they earn a lot of money: from the office to the train, from the clothing of the staff to the free food in the office - everything is very good. But for the same amount of money I spent on the (mostly bus)journey, I can buy a trainticket from Amsterdam to London, or Paris, or Berlin. IncaRail, or PeruRail, know they have the monopoly on this line and it therefore very, very much overprices its tickets. That is my only comment. How do you keep MachuPicchu accesible for people with bad health and small wallet?

There are two train options to get to Machu Picchu from Ollantaytambo or Cusco which are Peru Rail and Inca Rail. While most travel agencies book you through Peru Rail, I would say that Inca Rail on average has the more affordable options. We took the train from Ollantaytambo because we were exploring the town, but it costs little to nothing to add the bus service from Cusco to Ollantaytambo. A great thing about Inca Rail is that is offers trains departing almost every hour on this route. All train options offer panoramic windows so it doesn't matter which one you choose. The train was super clean, almost too clean and just smelled heavily of disinfectant. The actual train ride was smooth an beautiful and offered some of the best views during our trip to Peru. The one thig that caught us off guard, in a good way, was the special welcome experience. We were sitting in the waiting room and we here chanting louder and louder until a whole group of employees dressed as Incas dance as they lead you to the train. Even during the train ride, there was a story told about the town of Ollantaytambo. Some people got annoyed of it but we found it interesting. Overall, I definitely recommend booking through Inca Rail directly for your trip to Machu Picchu.

The Inca Rail train with Balcony was definitely worth it. They let us take pictures one by one and made sure everybody was able to take their pictures. They even offered to take pictures for us. If you have the opportunity to pick the voyager premium train over the voyager train, I would definitely recommend it!

It might have been an amazing trip but we never got to find out. I think the story of customer service isn't told from the best of times it is from the most challenging of times and Incarail did not measure up. Some of our family was to have headed to Peru to meet our son following his work on a research vessel in July on the Amazon. Our plan was to meet him following his trip to tour some additional sites through Peru and Ecuador during the summer one of which was a trip with Inca Rail. The trip was booked online and we selected a refundable option as group trips might change. A mere month later our son's expedition was cancelled in light of Covid and by March 29th I was dismantling our trip. I contacted service and they said it would not be a problem and gave me contact addresses. For the last five and a half months Incarail has given me the run around. First saying it was in process, then saying they would rebook (no good for us), then offering us to sell to someone and arguing they were "allowed" to change the tickets. The fact is we purchased refundable packages and sent a cancellation notice prior to them suspending service for our travel dates (in fact they were still selling tickets for those dates when we cancelled). After multiple emails and my continuing insistence they provide our refund I was told in May by the supervisor that our case was a top priority...................I have sent several messages since May and have seen no reply, nor message issuing a refund. I see others have posted similar stories and have to agree they are operating unethically. If you do make it there try Peru Rail instead. It angers me they are posting all these deals and about their great customer service.

We had planned a trip with Inca Rail in July 2020. Our booking has been cancelled due to the Corona virus pandemic and Inca Rail have decided to keep our money. I have asked four times for a full refund and each of my requests have been answered with "you are only entitled to a 2 year voucher". I will not accept a 2 year voucher as it does not protect me as a customer. I have been in contact with my bank and I am able to reclaim my money through a cashback service after the date of travel. I have made Inca Rail aware of this but they will still not give me a refund, they are constantly messaging me asking if I will accept their travel voucher.

The customer service I have received is the worst I have ever experienced! If you are wanting to book a trip in the future and you want to go to Machu Picchu I deeply advise you to not book with this company. Inca Rail have no integrity, all customers are entitled to a refund on their terms and conditions page but now they seem to believe that they are able to change this and give people vouchers as an alternative.

Book with Peru Rail as they have been satisfying their customers needs and have been giving them a full refund. When we are able to visit Machu Picchu in the future and when we decide to we will avoid Inca Rail!

My mom and I purchased the "complete," VIP package to Machu Picchu just to arrive there and not be able to see the citadel because this package did not include entry tickets. We spent nearly $400 to get on a bus, then a train, then to be specially escorted off the train first, paired with a tour guide (also included in the package), who escorted us to the bus to the citadel, then told we couldn't go up because we didn't have entry tickets. At no point during the purchase process or after did Inca Rails notify us that entry wasn't actually included in this package, which is hands-down the most important part. The entry tickets are limited and there were none available that day or any day that week while we were in Peru. Inca Rail should take far more responsibility to notify their customers of this critical step. Don't get your ticket here. Go directly to the official Machu Picchu website and secure your entry ticket first.

Dear 2022alg, It is very important for us your opinion, and we are sorry to know that you have this impression about our services. Please note that at the moment of your purchase at our website the detail of your itinerary (Transfer option) mentioned that this option does not included Machu Picchu entrance and you need the entrance for Circuit 1 to Machu Picchu citadel. Also at the moment of your purchase you received a voucher with the detail of your purchase that does not includes the entrance. We are sorry to know that you have a bad experience. One of the most spectacular train journeys you'll ever do. Inca rail were quite good value on what is a very expensive route. Nice to have a lunch included in price. Good experience overall.

We traveled from Cusco to Machu Picchu on March 14, 2022 with a family of 5 - 2 adults, 2 children (aged 8 and 14) and grandma. We used the bimodal (bus and train) transportation to Machu Picchu. The check-in process was efficient and conveniently located in Cusco. The roads were a little rough, but the bus was comfortable. When we arrived in Ollantaytambo, we had about 40 minutes before the train departed. There was a comfortable lounge for waiting with Wifi and clean bathrooms. The train ride was great, with awesome views and they let us go to the second car to get pictures from a "balcony" on the train. When you arrive in Aguas Caliente, there weren't any signs, but there is only one street, so you can find the buses up the mountain easily. Anywhere along Cusco/Machu Picchu route, there are always street vendors selling anything you need, from candy and soda to face shields and everything in between. Overall, I liked the Inca Rail service and it was less expensive than Peru Rail.

My only complaint was that face shields were required on the train in both directions. We rode on the bus for 2 hours with only a mask required and then suddenly you have to wear a face shield on a less-crowded train. That just doesn't make any logical sense.

Dear strickland_michael We appreciate the time you have taken to wright this positive feedback. It is truly a pleasure for us to know that you specially enjoyed the experience on board our The Voyager Premium & Lounge service. We are sure you took good photos of the great views at our balcony! Regarding the face shield, we are happy to share that since March 19th the peruvian gobernment modified the biosecurity protocols at trains, and it is not mandatory any more. We sincerely hope you have the opportunity to visit us again in the near future! Warm regards, The Inca Rail Team

I booked the all inclusive Inca Rail 360 roundtrip to Machu Picchu which left Cusco at the Inca Rail office at 4:20am (Why this time? I did some research and found that there will be less traffic not only on the road but when you arrive at Aguas Calientes / Machu Picchu; so happy we booked this time). I was very happy with the punctuality of the bus transportations (to / from Cusco). The train was very clean, with comfortable seating. The views were amazing going to Machu Picchu and I'm glad we sat on the left side going which had the best views of the water and landscapes. However, if I could take a half a star away, it would be due to no food/drink service onboard the train. I really could have enjoyed a nice cup of tea onboard. Hopefully this is allowed soon. But Peru as of 3/2022 is very strict with masking. Once we arrived into Aguas Calientes, we were introduced to our Tour Guide which was included with the trip as well. He took us to the bus which transports you to Machu Picchu (about 25 mins). He was super nice and took beautiful pictures as we toured through Machu Picchu. He also took us and dined with us at Chullos, which has some great food and views (try the alpaca and fried squid there - the best!!). After, we had time to rest and lounge before heading back to the train. Certainly tired and didn't care which side of the train we were on. I was also pleased that there were smaller buses which took us back from Ollantaytambo, directly to our hotel. We departed at 4:12pm and arrived to our hotel in Cusco around 8:15pm. Overall, very organized/seamless day trip at Machu Picchu from Cusco organized by Inca Rail. Again, I'm happy I picked the early itinerary as well. Highly Recommend!

They are the only option to choose! Also they are discriminating against the Peruvians and the other nationalities. There are no other company or country who gives different prices for foreigners. This is totally rip off.

I can swear that this is the far most expensive journey for 1,5 hour train ride. Also in our wagon, people were talking so high that none of your conductors tried to calm those rude guys.

Another thing is that, they have no Wi-Fi on your trains, that is a total shame for them.

The last thing is your air conditioning system, even the weather was so cold and we continuosly told to stop this a.c., they opened it again and again and again.

As a result, I will pray for a new company to emerge who can respect the passenger requests and offer better service, better ticket prices and send your company to the history.

I say and will say never ever again!
