Super professional in all ways and very accommodating. Four of us did a custom 13-day trip, about eight days of intense single track mountain biking, plus a couple of cultural sightseeing days at Machu Picchu and Cusco, and the grand finale was two days on the Apumirac! All the details were taken care of to the tee - the guides were superior, each one knew his stuff and we totally trusted them The gear was all quite acceptable, they provided lunches and the food was exceptional hot grand meals, we also hired a personal chef a few nights and the team was great! Our driver and van was very dependable and safe and we never had any trouble communicating or modifying the day’s plans to work in what each of us wanted (a beer stop, shop for fresh food at the market, a hike instead of a technical bike ride, etc). The rafting was the most radical class V+ water we had ever been on, one of us was a former guide and was totally thrilled by the non-stop whitewater! The scenery wherever we went was amazing and the weather was perfect, all in all, it couldn’t have been a better trip. We love Amazonas and Paul, just the right mix of adventure and safety, I will definitely book again with them and gladly do even more.

We are a family with 12 and 14 year old children and did one of the rafting trips. Our guide was Santiago and he provided a thorough safety briefing before we began and made sure we were all having fun and doing well through out the trip. We had 2 safety kayakers - Victor was one and he was fun just to watch his skill in the water. The second safety kayaker was Paul, the owner. I am not sure if there are always 2 safety kayaks or if he just wanted to get out on the river that day. Paul, the owner and operator, is British and has years of outdoor adventure guide experience. The rapids were the real deal. We have done white water rafting in other parts of the world and it seems like there is often a lot of down time between rapids...not on this trip. The river moved fast and it was action packed! After we finished, we pulled around the bend to find a full tent with tables, table clothes, portable cook tops with gas and an amazing spread of food for lunch! Juana and the driver had prepared it all while we were rafting. There was a changing tent, dry towels, and even a portable bathroom in a 2nd tent. Paul has his team are top notch, providing the best service, adventures, food and amenities. I highly recommend!

We went on a five day trek to Machu Picchu with Amazonas Explorer in October, 2022. They are an excellent and professional outfit and they made our trip amazing.

The trip planners and coordinators were very communicative and helpful during the booking process. Everything is spelled out in great detail, which gives you peace of mind when planning a trip like this from afar.

On the trek, our porters were amazing. The amount of work they do to keep camp running is very impressive. Also, the food is incredible. Chef Paulino and his assistant, Santos, served restaurant-quality meals three times a day. They are a hearty and friendly crew. Tip them well!

Were were fortunate to have Jimmy as our guide. He is super nice, very personable and positive - especially during the endless uphills when mental fatigue is setting in. Jimmy is very knowledgeable about Peru and Incan history which gave our trip an unexpected educational component. He made our trip memorable and enjoyable, we really appreciated all the effort he put in to take care of our group.

We highly recommend Amazonas Explorer to anyone traveling to Peru to hike the Inca Trail or pursue other outdoor activities.

Hi David, Thank you for your extremely kind comments. Everyone in the Amazonas team works extremely hard to provide the best service possible, and our team of porters have been working for us for a long time- some since the conception of the company, and others have taken over from their parents, so we have great faith in them :) I will pass on your other comments to Paulino, Santos, and Jimmy- They will be very happy to hear what you have to say. If you ever return to Peru, please do not hesitate to reach out to us and we will be thrilled to create more memories for you. All the best, Paul Cripps & the Amazonas Team

I cannot say enough good things about Amazonas Explorer and our passionate tour guide, Cristto, the diligent porters, and all the people working in the background on the Amazonas Explorer team. My husband and I did the 5-day Machu Pichu hike this past September.

AE is professional, organized, ethical, and made this experience one I will never forget. The porters were amazing, the food was delicious and we even had plenty of snacks supplied by AE. Cristto shared so much knowledge, that the few months since being back I've been reading more books about the history of Peru. He was so insightful and really put his heart into the tour. I really enjoyed visiting the Inca sites leading up to Machu Pichu and a few of our stops in the Sacred Valley.

I also want to thank Andrea, who was our main contact with organizing the trip. We had planned to trek in May of 2020, but we all know the world had different plans. After postponing a few times, we were finally able to book for September of 2021. She was punctual, efficient, and organized. I know she did not have an easy job that year and I really appreciate her hard work.

Seriously, book with this group! Amazonas Explorers, thank you for a trip we will never forget.

I would give them more stars, if I could. We did 2 adventures with them. The 1st was the mountain ebike tour of Cusco. We mountain bike at home all the time but never rode an ebike. This seemed like a great opportunity to try it out. Our guide, Juan Carlo, was awesome! He took us on some beautiful trails where we had amazing views of the city. He was very in tune to our skill level and considerate of our needs. Now I’m searching for an ebike at home to buy!!!!!

The 2nd tour we did was the one day whitewater rafting trip on the Apurimac River. The road just to get there was an adventure in itself. The river is in a gorgeous canyon. Our guide, Victor, made us feel totally secure and safe. We also had a safety person in a kayak accompany us. They prepared a wonderful breakfast on the drive there, then a lunch that way exceeded our expectations halfway through the river. We even pulled over in our raft to check out a beautiful waterfall. All of their personal and safety equipment was in top condition, which reflects their ability to treat clients with care and respect. I highly recommend Amazonas Explorer! They offer several adventures and we’ll definitely book more with them next time we visit Peru.

We had the most amazing time, our guide met us at the airport, showed us around Cusco, and helped us even before our trip got fully underway. Once we were on the trail things were, if anything, even better. It was the most amazing trip, and our guide, cook, and the rest of the team took such incredible care of us. We learned, had amazing views, and day after day if anything the views became more awe-inspiring. The food was delicious, and I was even more amazed watching them cook out on the trails. I went on this trip with my two teenage daughters, and our guide Jimmy and the rest of the guys took such good care of them, made us all feel safe, and we learned so much hiking between the villages and ruins, and spotting wildlife and ducking into caves. One of the best back country trips I have ever had in my life.

We are normally prefer traveling independent of any guides/tours, but with the current Covid restrictions and things changing so quickly we figured it was best to hire a tour company. This was the best decision we could make. Amazonas Explorers helped us create a custom itinerary perfect for all members of our family with the right mix of history, adventure, and culture. Our main guide Cristobal was so helpful and beyond being really good at being a tour guide he is also just a genuinely caring person. There were also a number of activity specific guides throughout the trip that were equally friendly and professional. These guides have been out of work for over a year with the effects of Covid on tourism so it was evident they were so happy to receive new guests to their country. Now is the perfect time to travel before the swarms of tourists return and Amazonas Explorers is the company to hire.

My husband and I did the 1 day Apurimac rafting trip with Amazonas Explorer at the end of August and had an amazing experience!! When I was considering going white water rafting in Peru, I had done a lot of research into different companies and found that Amazonas Explorer kept popping up as the best company to go with. And I'm so happy we decided to go with them.

Our rafting guide, Rum, was amazing, and clearly an expert at what he does! We were also extremely fortunate to have Paul, the owner of of the company, help lead our trip. Both Paul and Rum were so knowledgable, extremely experienced, kind, and clearly have a deep passion for what they do. From start to finish, they were extremely professional and made me feel comfortable, safe, and at ease, and created a fun and memorable experience for us! My only regret was that we did not have time to do the 3-day granite canyon trip, but we will have to come back for that!

I only have wonderful things to say about Amazonas Explorer, would highly recommend them for their rafting trips, and would trust them for all other Peru excursions (like hiking, mountain biking, etc) in the future!!

Just waiting in Amsterdam for our connecting flight to Birmingham in the UK.

Just wanted to say what a fabulous 3 week family trip we’ve just had courtesy of Amazonas. From start to finish Peru and its people have been wonderful. What a country! Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The service we received from everyone associated with Amazonas has been wonderful. Just the right mix of educational, organised and fun. Our standout person has to be Ruben aka Chino who guided us over the Inca Trail with his amazing knowledge, motivation skills and laughs. In spite of, or maybe because of, its difficulty and effort required, the Inca Trail was the real highlight. Totally recommend the 5 day trek. Because of its counter cyclical timings, we literally had the whole trail to ourselves until the last day. The route and the scenery was spectacular, as was Timo’s amazing cooking en route. Didn’t imagine we’d be having eggs Benedict for breakfast 4000m up in The Andes! The Lomo Saltado for one of the suppers was the best of the whole trip. As for the surprise (I won't ruin it) at the end of supper on Day 2, which I personally found the most challenging, wowsers! Talk about attention to detail.
Day 3 was tough but astonishing and stunning. Those Incas sure were crazy, making routes on the most inaccessible mountain sides. The views over the Machu Picchu mountain and The Andes were stunning - even our streetwise 17 year old son was amazed. ‘That is The most beautiful view I’ve ever seen’ was his reaction. As for the final campsite, difficult to put into words how extraordinary it was.
Suffice to say, the (many) drinks we all had at the end with Chino, Timo and Leo were filled with a mix of satisfaction and a lot of laughs. What a night!
Other highlights were the Colca Valley, with it’s volcanoes and condors, the rafting on the Apurimac river with Rom (recommend an overnight stay), the jungle and finally our couple of days R&R in Paracas, with accompanying flight over the Nazca Lines. Oh, and a few Inca sites as well...

Mentioned In Dispatches is also Ada for our great last day in Lima, tailored to our requirements with perfection. Her rapid-fire tour of the Museum was a perfect ending!

The hotels were all great too.

All in all, fabulous. What a trip and what a country!

Totally recommend Amazonas.

If you need a tailored tour to Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, I can highly recommend Amazonas Explorer. They are easy to communicate with, and they take care of everything from transport and hotels to guide, entrances and train tickets. We had a fantastic guide who knows everything about the Incas and took care of everything so we could get the most out of four fantastic days.
