About
We are the Only Inca Trail Tour Operator that has built a house for the Porters; Porters come to do this job from very far away communities up in the andes and had NO place to stay in in between treks; But NOW, they do have one and is called the LLama Path Porters' house - any one is welcome to visit this place at anytime. We are the ONLY agency in Cusco that takes Porters on vacations; yearly around 50 of them are taken on vacations to different parts of Peru as part of an all inclusive treat they immensely deserve from the 330 hard days of work they do to ensure our foreign clientes tours are enjoyable. In 2018 we will be going on the 4th Inca Trail Porters Vacations, this time we will be going to Trujillo and Chiclayo in the northern coast of Peru. The Porters Vacations is possible ONLY thanks to you who trust in our services provided; as you can see a part of our profits go NOT only to suport the Porters vacations but also to support the children after school project.

I have had an incredible time trekking with my brothers along the Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu with Llama Path. Whilst we missed out on our original itinerary to hike the Inca trail due to an unforeseen closure with landslides, we were certainly not disappointed. Llama Path went above and beyond to help us arrange an alternative itinerary that enabled us to see the snow capped Salkantay mountain, Humantay Lake, the high Amazon and keep our original dates and tickets to see Machu Picchu. A very big thank you to operations manager Joel! He was very helpful in explaining the situation on the Inca trail, being very patient with us as we explored the other options to get to Machu Picchu. We found out later that he worked well past the office hours to arrange all the camps, porters and extra tickets so we could depart at 3am the next day! My brothers and I have been blown away with the service Llama Path have provided, from the office staff to the guides to the porters. We walked really long days, but eagerly awaited lunch and dinner each day where Balvino and his assistant Carlos made incredible meals for us each day. We must also thank the porters. They have a work ethic like no other, walking the long distances with a heavy pack. We would leave camp early and would see how far we could get before the “Red Train” of porters would pass us, walking fast so they could set up camp for us when we arrived. They were always friendly to us even though we struggled to speak their language. Thank you to the head porter Conep, as well as the other porters Brahan, Reachar, Simeon, Fernando, Enuciencio, Nelson, Santos and Ferdinen. A great trip all round, would recommend Llama Path if your heading to Machu Picchu in the future.

The Inca trek was amazing with our Tour Guides Russell and Wilson along with the great food by Chef César. Russell & Wilson are awesome tour guides who share a lot of Incan history as well as made the trek enjoyable! Russell always shared exciting history about the Incans and the sites we’d visited. He also told great stories and had an answer for any question asked to him! They always urged everyone on the trail to continue with a positive attitude & made the whole experience fun and memorable. The food by Chef César was beyond exceptional and the presentations were aesthetically pleasing. Would definitively recommend Llama Path, especially since it was clear that they treated their porters fairly and made sure they were well equipped and comfortable for the trek. Would 10/10 go with Llama Path for any trek again!

We booked the Classic Inca Trail Group Hike January 22-25, 2020. There were 7 of us (5 of us from America and another couple from Poland). Jose Luis "Pepe" was our Llama Path group leader and Jorge was our chef.

Pepe was incredible! So knowledgeable (he is a former Machu Picchu ranger) and patient with members of our group (primarily me) who were very slow on the trail. The food by Jorge was absolutely incredible. We especially loved the chicken ceviche and sausage canolis. He made me a birthday cake our last night! The porters were so kind and giving. They ranged from ages 22 to 60. Incredible, the work they do. We were taken care of the entire time.

We did not have a traditional experience on the trail. Unfortunately after summitting Dead Women's Pass on the 2nd day, a massive rock slide occurred immediately in front of us at the Pacaymayo Alto camp hitting a group of porters from another tour company, killing a man and severely injuring 2 others. Pepe immediately jumped in to help the injured while also assuring our group we would be ok. After about an hour, he led us over the second pass to the next campsite. A great call on his part or else our next day would've been unbearably long. At dinner that night, the decision was made to hike to Aguas Calientes the next day via a porter trail because of more rock slides near the Sun Gate (we learned later, the trail was closed entirely).

We could not have gotten through these unforeseen challenges without Pepe. When we got to our hotel in Aguas Calientes, we were able to thank him for his patience, guidance and hospitality. We also were able to thank the porters for all of their hard work and for keeping it together, considering they likely lost one of their friends on the trail the day before.

I will leave a longer review on the Inca Trail Trip Advisor page detailing my recommendations for hike prep, where to stay/eat in Cusco, what to pack and when to go on the hike (preview - I would NOT recommend going in the rainy season because you could run into the same rock slide issues as we did). However for purposes of reviewing Llama Path, I HIGHLY recommend their services, especially Pepe!!!

It truly was the trip of a lifetime for us. Llama Path could not have been more attentive to us from the very beginning back in February until our trek in September. Joe, from their office, addressed our every question or concern in a timely manner via email as we planned and prepared for our journey. We chose the 4day/3 night traditional Inca Trail Private Service and had a remarkable experience with our friends and our wonderful guide Gabriel (Gabo). Unfortunately a 3rd couple was not able to join us and cancelled last minute due to the Peruvian government changed Covid requirements just 3 days before we were to leave for Peru. Gabriel our guide was so prepared to share with us the history and culture of everything Inca. You could tell he loved what he did and was excited to share with us. We could not have asked for a better guide. The Porters were amazing and so kind and attentive to us. We could not help but be inspired by them and all they did to support us on our trek. We also were impressed with Llama Path and their commitment to supporting the porters in an ethical and respectful way. They seem to care deeply for their employees. The trek was very difficult, stair climbing we had done to prepare was a good conditioning exercise and I would recommend anyone considering this journey to condition by doing lots of stairs, it was for sure a help to us. Altitude affected our breathing but direction from Gabo, our guide, helped us to work through this hardship. The views and environment was breathtaking. at so many levels. Truly the trip of a lifetime for us. Thank you Llama Path for an incredible experience! We whole heartedly recommend using Llama Path for your guides on your Inca Trail Experience.

If you are considering seeing Machu Picchu and are in reasonable shape I highly recommend hiking the Inca trail, and if you are going to hike the Inca trail I highly recommend the 4 day trek with Llama Path! Our chef Santos and his crew made amazing food 3 times per day. We hike a lot with our boys (6 and 8) but have never taken them over about 12,000 ft. Since this trip went to almost 14,000 we took the advice of Llama Path staff and hired one porter to help our youngest son. Although he didn’t need to be carried at all, Felipe hiked with him the entire trek, holding his hand on the steepest portions. They were good friends by the end and now my six year old is excited to learn Spanish, bonus!
Our guide Aiden was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. We could definitely tell he loves the history of the area as well as the flora and fauna. He taught us a lot about the seven Inca sites we saw along the way and the different plants (wild orchids!)
On the first night of our trip Aiben received word of rock slides ahead and that the other groups were turning back. He asked us if we felt safe continuing, we told him if the porters are ok then we are too so we were the only group to continue and the trail was closed following that day. The rockslide problem closed the trail at Sun Gate to all hikers. So Aiben and Llama Path rerouted our hike through Aguas Calientes and got us to Machu Picchu on schedule.
While Machu Picchu is amazing walking the Inca trail to get there gives you a much better feel for how truly amazing these people were. I’d give 10 stars if that was an option! Thank you Llama Path!
p.s. read some books before coming and the stories of the sites will be more interesting and rewarding, I recommend “Turn Right At Machu Picchu” and “The Last Days of the Inca Empire”

We travelled with Llama Path for the Classic Inca Trail Group Service 4D/3N over New Years 2019/20. We were very happy with our choice of company as the whole trip was amazing. Although this trail is expensive we really feel we got our money’s worth and it was clear that the company invest this in the wellbeing of their porters and the equipment used. We saw several other groups where the porters were walking in sandals, with just bags on their backs, whilst Llama Path provides proper hiking shoes, backpacks and also makes sure the community benefits from the profits of the company.

We received a proper briefing before departure and felt prepared for the trip beforehand. My partner and I and decided not too use a porter, but instead shared a backpack of 55litres which was no problem, but Llama Path provide the options of a half porter or a full porter.

Our guide, Russel, was very helpful with everything we had questions about and explained in detail all the sights we passed and the history of the Inca civilisation and of the local villages we passed. Our chef, Cesar, made us amazing vegan food without any problem! We received snacks and a three course meal for lunch and dinner. They also cater to other dietary needs. Overall, an amazing experience and we would highly recommend going with Llama Path!

We just finished the Lares Trek with Llama path, after having the Inca trail closed for this month Llama path was great and made sure we were still able to participate! Both my friend and I are vegan, and enjoyed wonderful vegan food the whole time courtesy of the chefs George and Cesar!
We got to experience sunshine, rain and snow during the trek which made it a little tricky for first time hikers! Our guides Gabriel and Joshua were amazing making sure we were acclimating to the altitude well, stopping for breaks , and explaining the culture , plant life , and significance of where we were in the Andes mountains ! The lares trek was a great first time hike , and was made manageable. Definitely wear good hiking shoes and be prepared for any weather!! We had the good luck of having a small group which only added to our experience ! Gabriel was our lead guide and was knowledgeable about every aspect about the mountains, Andean culture , Incas, language etc.

All of our items besides day bags were carried by horses on the Lares trek! We had Wilfredo and Vilma who lead the horses up the mountain ahead of us, and set up camp at night.

Llama Path did a wonderful job working out our trip itinerary, including day tour in Cusco, tour to the Sacred Valley, a 5D/4N Inca Trail, homestay at Lake Titica and a day trip to Nazca. They settled all the comfortable accommodation and the travel arrangements. Our guides, William in Cusco, Orlando for the Inca Trail and George at Lake Titica were knowledgeable and friendly. My wife and I were very well looked after by the team of porters and the amazing chef during the Inca Trail. Strongly recommended!!!!!

I just got back from a 4 day/3 night trek on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and it was honestly one of the most incredible experiences of my life! Don't get me wrong, it was challenging, but every sore muscle was absolutely worth it.

I cannot speak highly enough about Llama Path. They were so patient in answering all my questions I had before the trip and making it easy to rent supplies. Our tour guide Marco was fun, encouraged us along the way, and provided so much history about what we were seeing. They had a legit chef, Moise, who provided the most delicious food; every meal had like 7 full plates of unique food to grab from. The waiter, Victor, always had juice ready for us when we arrived at our lunch/dinner stops and woke us up with coca tea or hot chocolate in the morning. And I can't speak highly enough about all the porters worked around the clock to give our group the best experience. They are literally running through the Inca Trail with huge backpacks so that camp can be ready when we arrive.

There are a lot of options of companies you can go with and Llama Path isn't the cheapest but that's because Llama Path pays their porters good wages. So every dollar you save at another company is most likely taking from the porters. I was also sold when I saw that Llama Path gives the opportunity for their porters to go on vacations which they would never likely have the chance to do without that. Just know that it is worth the cost.

Let me end with some tips:
*Unless you have done a multiple day mountain hike before, get at least a 1/2 porter. The hike is difficult so not carrying as much weight makes it so much better. And you get to provide a job opportunity to another porter!
*I've never used hiking poles before but they are a necessity. Just rent them from the company.
*Wet wipes are great to double as toilet paper and to clean yourself at the end of the day.
*Don't overpack, I could've gotten by with reusing clothes and layering.
*At Machu Picchu, Waynapicchu is 100% worth the extra cost. You have to book this in advance though.
*Train a little bit for this. You don't have to be a full blown mountain hiker to do this but at least be active.

Amazing Experience from the first contact to the very end of the tour. We chose the 4 day/3 night traditional Incan Trail Private Service for two couples. (A third couple missed the tour when the Peruvian government changed the Covid requirements just a few days before our tour.) Joe (in the office) was responsive and helped with all of our questions as we gathered information, booked and planned our trip. Our guide, Gabriel (Gabo) was so patient and took the time to help us understand the historical sites from the perspective of the Incan people. He was well informed and we could tell that he enjoyed sharing his knowledge with us. The porters were attentive and helpful to our every need. Every meal was delicious and we were amazed at what the chef could create with the limited equipment on the trail. The trail was tough - we were short of breath due to the altitude - but we went at our own pace and took breaks when needed. Some prior conditioning would be extremely helpful - climbing lots and lots of stairs both up and down. Llamapath seems to care deeply for their employees, particularly the porters who made it possible for us to have this experience. We could not have packed in all the equipment needed to make this experience what it was. The views along the trail and the opportunity to enter Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate make this a phenomenal experience for everyone willing to hike 26 miles and "rough it" a little along the way!

Hi, When I first saw "Trip of a lifetime" I immediately thought our staff worked so hard as usual, being in quarantine for so long we have are "batteries" recharged and as usual willing to provide the best possible experience to all and to each one of our clientes. As you said, we always make the best of our efforts to our porters, no doubts about it my friend. Rah la for choosing Llama Path PLEASE keep safe.
