About Llama Path
We are the Only Inca Trail Tour Operator that has built a house for the Porters; Porters come to do this job from very far away communities up in the andes and had NO place to stay in in between treks; But NOW, they do have one and is called the LLama Path Porters' house - any one is welcome to visit this place at anytime. We are the ONLY agency in Cusco that takes Porters on vacations; yearly around 50 of them are taken on vacations to different parts of Peru as part of an all inclusive treat they immensely deserve from the 330 hard days of work they do to ensure our foreign clientes tours are enjoyable. In 2018 we will be going on the 4th Inca Trail Porters Vacations, this time we will be going to Trujillo and Chiclayo in the northern coast of Peru. The Porters Vacations is possible ONLY thanks to you who trust in our services provided; as you can see a part of our profits go NOT only to suport the Porters vacations but also to support the children after school project.

I just got back from a 4 day/3 night trek on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and it was honestly one of the most incredible experiences of my life! Don't get me wrong, it was challenging, but every sore muscle was absolutely worth it. I cannot speak highly enough about Llama Path. They were so patient in answering all my questions I had before the trip and making it easy to rent supplies. Our tour guide Marco was fun, encouraged us along the way, and provided so much history about what we were seeing. They had a legit chef, Moise, who provided the most delicious food; every meal had like 7 full plates of unique food to grab from. The waiter, Victor, always had juice ready for us when we arrived at our lunch/dinner stops and woke us up with coca tea or hot chocolate in the morning. And I can't speak highly enough about all the porters worked around the clock to give our group the best experience. They are literally running through the Inca Trail with huge backpacks so that camp can be ready when we arrive. There are a lot of options of companies you can go with and Llama Path isn't the cheapest but that's because Llama Path pays their porters good wages. So every dollar you save at another company is most likely taking from the porters. I was also sold when I saw that Llama Path gives the opportunity for their porters to go on vacations which they would never likely have the chance to do without that. Just know that it is worth the cost. Let me end with some tips: *Unless you have done a multiple day mountain hike before, get at least a 1/2 porter. The hike is difficult so not carrying as much weight makes it so much better. And you get to provide a job opportunity to another porter! *I've never used hiking poles before but they are a necessity. Just rent them from the company. *Wet wipes are great to double as toilet paper and to clean yourself at the end of the day. *Don't overpack, I could've gotten by with reusing clothes and layering. *At Machu Picchu, Waynapicchu is 100% worth the extra cost. You have to book this in advance though. *Train a little bit for this. You don't have to be a full blown mountain hiker to do this but at least be active.

Wow. Marco and his chef Moises are amazing. Marco led a mixed fitness group, some fast, some slow and managed to get everyone to enjoy the entire trip. Thank you to the entire team, especially the porters who go above and beyond. We did 3 total tours with these guys and were lucky enough to have Marco each time. Thank you for everything.

If I could summarize my four day Inca Trail Trek with Llama Path in one word it would be PERFECT. Communication with Joe was fantastic as he answered all of our questions via email and Whatsapp from before we purchased our tours up to when we met him at the Llama Path office in Cusco. The tour itself was also PERFECT. Our tour guide was Russell and our chef was Jorge. The team was prepared for everything. They set up the campsites before we got there. They had food, tea, dessert, and coffee for us at each campsite. The chef even made us a special mango pie for our one year anniversary and decorated it for us. The tour guide Russell was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. It was a pleasure getting to know him over the course of the four day Inca Trail, and conversation on the trail, at breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc was all fantastic. At the end of the trip, I truly felt like I had made a new friend and was sad to leave him. After the trip, the company arranged a hotel room for us in the town nearby at Aguas Calientes in order to enjoy the town. They even set up a covid test in their office at cusco so we could return to our country, The United States. Again, they thought of EVERYTHING and executed it all flawlessly. I could not have asked for a better experience.

Machu Picchu was on our must-see list for a long time already. Initially we just wanted to visit the site itself, it was just few weeks before coming to Peru that we decided to take the 4D/3N Classic Inca Trail. We selected Llama Path based on their descriptions of fair treatment of porters and a very good opinion. And indeed, they were very quick, efficient and informative already at the phase of reservation. After trekking the Colca Canyon (with another operator) I had doubts whether I will be able to do the second day of Inca trail, I was very close to resign, but llama path convinced me that it is 90% spiritual journey and only 10% physical one. It sounds like a nice marketing slogan, but indeed, with our guide Russell, chef Melchor and a great team of porters, this trekking was not a pleasant but in fact a luxury experience. There are of course the steps, ups and downs that you have to make by yourself, but if only you walk with your own pace, supported by the understanding guide like Russell, you won’t even notice that not only you meet Dead Woman’s Pass earlier than in the schedule, but also the zigzags of your mind seem to be aired and straightened. Forget about the altitude, just [drink coca tea/chew coca leaves,] admire the mountains, enjoy the incredible stories of Russell and look forward to the exquisite dishes served by Melchor. Because every step you make not only gives you a satisfaction of an achievement and new views, but also gets you closer to the nice camp, where everything is ready for you, including the bowl of hot water for refreshment and delicious smells promising tasty meal with stories and discussions on the history, religion/believes, folk tradition and tales, biology, sociology, psychology and even astrology. In all of those domains our guide was able to amaze us. And yes, we also got our birthday cake!:) and yes, Machu Picchu was impressive, but it was indeed like a cherry on the cake. And somehow, I think I will always remember that there was a cherry, but it will be the taste of the cake that I will recall whenever thinking of this trip. I guess that we were just incredibly lucky – that the trail was not closed [in spite of the covid], that there was not so many people on the trail [“thanks to” the covid], but most of all – that we did it with Llama path, and more precisely with Russel, Melchor and our great team of porters. It is their organization, knowledge, experience and dedication that made those 4 days the most meaningful and satisfying from whole trip to Peru. For me personally – the best trekking days ever😊 There is just one small drawback – we got used to feel so secure and looked after, almost spoilt by our red super-men, that the moment when Russell left us at Aquas Calientes, our team of five very well organized and rather tough ladies felt totally lost and vulnerable. Of course we got all the tickets and instructions so we reached our hotel, but those were harsh hours to get to the reality😉

Spectacular. Impeccable. Llama Path delivered an experience far above our expectations. Our guide, Gabriel, was not only a knowledgeable and pleasant leader of our group, but he also has a clear passion for the Andes, ruins, national park, and the whole of Incan history and cosmology. His presence was cheerful, encouraging, and educational. Our impressive chef and assistant delivered some of the best meals I’ve had in all of Peru while cooking with a camping stove and supplies carried in backpacks. Remarkable. Lastly, hats off and crazy respect for the team of porters that sped up and down the mountains at an impressive pace. They managed the campsite setup and takedown with military precision and great attitudes. Their service was next level! Thank you, Llama Path for a great adventure!
