The colorful Vinicunca mountain is located in Quispicachis about 80 kilometerts southeast of the city of Cusco and is surrounded by the sacred mountain of Ausangate that is considered by the inhabitants as a god, in the introduction of the guide before starting the walk he made an offer for this mountain, to enable us to pass and return safely.
It is a magical place with beautiful landscapes, with many llamas and alpacas grazing in their natural habitat.
Upon reaching the colorful mountain top, feel the energy of the place, and ask yourself, that mother earth knows how to surprise you with this gift, a work of natural art.

We were really surprised by how few people we met on this hike because it's so beautiful! The views are breathtaking, and the scenery changes every day (and we compare it to previous hikes we've done in the Himalayas and Patagonia). First, we made the Inca trail, and we are very happy to have also done Ausangate, two very different experiences since the Inca trail is more focused on culture and history, and Ausangate has remote and beautiful views. The Ausangate trek can be extended to include Rainbow Mountain; this can allow you to be there in quieter times before and after the tour buses - we were there alone at sunrise.
This hike is a little more challenging than most others in the region due to the altitude. Don't underestimate this, and be sure to acclimatize before you start.
We can really recommend anyone traveling to the Cusco region to investigate this trek. Many people take alternative treks because the Inca trail is completely reserved and, although it is not as close to Machu Picchu as some of the other treks, I am sure it is more beautiful and remote.
I highly recommend the Ausangate Peru agency.

Stunning views and an incredible hike up to 5,200m above sea level make you realize how disabled you are. I recommend spending at least 1 or 2 days in Cusco to acclimatize before taking on this challenge of reaching the mountain of colors.
It was an amazing hike, and only because it was getting harder and harder. You can pay to ride a horse to the top, but it is much more rewarding to do the hike yourself!
If you are in Cusco, I recommend you visit the Ausangate Peru travel agency; They will organize this tour for you.

I did the trek to the Ausangate snow-capped mountain with the Ausangate Peru company. The starting point was the town of Tinki.
The group consisted of 05 people of different nationalities, Americans and Europeans; our guide John was very efficient in his work. The chef Donato in charge of feeding the group during the walk was excellent (a person very dedicated to his work as a chef).
This walkthrough the Ausanagte was undoubtedly one of my best outdoor experiences, during the walk you can see a desert place little frequented by tourists, the walk is quiet you can visit many different colored lagoons, also observe many llamas and alpacas in the wild, the beauty of this entire hike is its wonderful landscapes.
It was an amazing test for me at the time of completing this hike!
Thanks to all the team of this company!!!

We did one of the best hikes in the Ausangate mountain range. It was a unique experience and the best so far of my life.
Our guide Jesús did an excellent job, helping us with everything we should know about Peruvian culture, our chef Donato impressed us every day with delicious dishes, the equipment used in the camps was very comfortable, in general everything was perfect.
I recommend that you spend at least 2 days in Cusco for good acclimatization before starting your hike towards the mountain of colors and Ausangate mountain. I thank Ausangate Peru; For all the support provided during my stay in Cusco; of course, I recommend them.

Without words, the trip to the rainbow mountain is just fantastic, that's all I have to say.
It was impressive, and it was worth all the physical and mental effort.
I recommend before doing this tour to be well acclimatized, or you will have problems with the altitude. The comforts of the camps are wonderful, and each location offers incredible views. It's cold at night, so bring warm sleepwear.
And don't forget your rain poncho if you go in the rainy season. Oh, and please wear sunscreen yourself if it's not sunny.
Thank you very much to the ausangate peru travel agency for this beautiful adventure to the rainbow mountain, vinicunca!!!.

An imposing mountain in the Peruvian Andes. Place with a certain mysticism. Walking through it is undoubtedly a unique moment, but with the possibility of being quite difficult to do, since the weather changes easily.
If you like adventure on little frequented roads, this 4-day tour to Ausangate Peru is perfect.
I recommend it.

My group and I were in this magical place, on a 04-day excursion, on the margins of the snowy Ausangate, there are many Inca historical places. It is worth doing this walk, that you will be impressed by the beauty of this land, Peru, the beauty of the Ausangate mountains is divine and dazzling and impressive.
The best hike you'll ever have, I assure you.!!!

I planned this trip; to this enigmatic place Ausangate mountain, a long time ago; So many circumstances happened for which I always had to abort the trip, but you should never give up; Until the right time came to make the walk.
It was a unique experience of 5 days, bordering the entire snowy Ausangate.
I thank the travel agency Ausangate Peru; For organizing this tour, the guide Yuri for his support and patience, and the support team that always had the food and the tents camping ready.

How much did someone pay for the 4-5 trek and did anyone do solo with guide
Written October 8, 2018
I believe locals charge around 200-300 depending on the route and inclusions. The large agencies charge almost double that. We went with Valerio Huanca Layme. He has a webpage, Unchartered Peru, if you Google him.
