We lost the deposit and we didn't get any real support from them. Also misleading answer were given to us like the IncaTrail was open while the embassy said that was not. Because of COVID-19, the inca trail was closed and by document i receive (and forwared to Guiding Perù) from my embassy was clear that there was no plan to open it in August. Even there, the company asked us to cancel the trekking with NO REFUND. They didn't help us to request the refund to the government. It was like a scam to me. Their answers are totally disconnected from my several mails that i sent. We asked for information and gave them document sent by my embassy in Perù. Even with several proof of my statement, they wasn't able to answer to my questions properly and always used standard mail with no use at all. I wrote them in spanish with the help of my Peruvian friend and they didn't answer to that mail too. Be aware to use this company because on the first problem, they will let you stay alone and will not take care of you. If everything is working fine, they probably are the best but not in case of issue.

Our trek was INCREDIBLE! We went right before rainy season, so we were fortunate enough to have a "private" guided trek as we were the only couple going. Our guide, Carlos, was super knowledgable, accommodating, patient, and personable. He 1--% made our trek as special as it was. Their process was so well organized and smooth, there wasn't a single hiccup or set back. 100% would use Guiding Peru again for any hiking/guided needs. They were awesome.

I enjoyed our guide Reuben but the trip which was a trek through lares was very dangerous for several reasons. Our private group included 6 children aged 8 to 11. The kids did very well, but I suffered from symptoms of altitude sickness. I had asked prior to the trek during the online booking if an emergency kit and oxygen was available (since we were travelling with young kids). At no time was oxygen available. At 14000 feet when I could not catch my breath and was gasping for air, I was informed they had not taken any sort of first aid or oxygen kit!. Fortunately, I was able to pay a local teenager 70 soles to borrow a mule to help me up the highest peak before I collapsed and died in front of my children. In addition to the lack of emergency equipment, the tents had holes, broken zippers and the sleeping bags were torn with no zippers. The condition of the tents, sleeping bags was horrific. We were wet and freezing as a result. In the last night, the guides decided to stay in the backyard of one of the porters home which was absolutely filthy. I wrote to the owner of this tour company immediately after our return and did not receive any explanation for the faulty tent and sleeping bags. Absolutely no explanation about the lack of emergency kit and supplemental oxygen. Very dangerous tour company. Next time I will not book with guiding Peru...that is for sure.

Response from johndI5417RN, Owner at Guiding Peru
Responded Apr 19, 2020
Response, followed by "comments" from the guest sent to Guiding Peru following her tour(s). 1. 3 weeks before tour Guiding Peru recommended an easier route with more amenities, based on this guests emails with concerns. Guest refused and stated they were prepared. 2. Guests were not prepared for international outdoor adventure tourism. 3. Guests extended their original 4 day tour, with a request for a 5th day for additional touring. If Guiding Peru was a "dangerous" company, why accept and continue with the additional tour day, beyond the original 4 day route in question? 4. Comments from guest following day 4 of original 4 day tour: "Hi. I truly enjoyed our trek, your guides and staff were wonderful." "Overall, we had a great time. I have already mentioned your guides and staff were friendly , professional and helpful at all times. The views were fabulous and Reuben did a lovely tour for our family at Machu pichu." 5. Comments from guest following day 5 of guests requested extended tour: "We did have a lovely day in the sacred valley. This was a very family and age appropriate tour for our children. They really enjoyed the day. Thank you" Following our staff's comments, along with this guests positive comments following her tour(s), and her 8 month delay in submitting this review, there is concerns she did so for ulterior motives.

This was amazing! Rarely does something exceed expectations but this does. Phenomenal and knowledgeable guide (Pabel). Our driver Willie was also great, always on time and helpful. This trip was the complete package. We hiked from small village to small village along beautiful well maintained trails. Culmination was in machu picchu. We hiked through ruins on the way and were able to explore them entirely by ourselves without another person (besides the ranger) in sight. Pabel was extremely knowledgeable and informative, always giving great archaeological/historical information regarding the Incan sites but also detailed knowledge about the local flora and fauna and uses by the local people. This trip was extremely well organized. I have already recommended it to several friends. They strongly recommend acclimating to altitude for 2-3 days prior to hiking, I would definitely heed this recommendation.
