After checking for the best spots to watch over the city, I think this is the best place to make great pictures and play with the location itself. But make sure to come early or late, when all the touristic groups have left the place.
Yanahuara is best coupled with a visit to mirador Carmen overlooking terraces and mountains on one side and the city scape on the other.
Yanahuara is a nice park and church with lots of local people and activities and great views.

The ancient suburb of Arequipa is well-maintained, with its own leafy Plaza de Armas, a beautiful church, and charming side streets with excellent little restaurants/cafes. Well worth the time spent getting there.
It's worth the short walk from central Arequipa. I walked there, just a bridge to be crossed. I don't think there's any security issue going there.
Nice colonial streets and good picanterias, so good to combine with a nice lunch.
