We headed towards Mirador de Yanahuara on a sunny afternoon to get a good picture of the beautiful Volcan Misti. But as often before, the volcano was shrouded in thick clouds; no pictures.
But then you realize the truth in the old saying that the journey is the destination itself. Because it turned out to be a lovely little trip from Centro Historico.
Almost the entire way to the viewpoint is beautiful and pleasant. A delightful bridge bustling with life, a park-like stretch where loving couples hold hands.
And up at the viewpoint, a lovely square with beautiful palm trees and photogenic arches, where teenage girls and newlyweds take posed pictures of themselves.
We grabbed a cup of coffee at the restaurant up there and happily walked back to the historic center, completely unconcerned that our volcano photo had vanished in the mist.

I really enjoyed my stay in Yanahuara. Nice quiet area and I never felt other than safe walking around. It's about a 20 minute walk to the main Plaza de Armas of Arequipa but there are plenty of shops and supermarkets around if that's what you need.

It's a beautiful district which is about a 20-30 minute walk from the Old Town. The Mirador De Yanahuara is a must stop while you're here. Great view of the Old town and great photo opportunities.

Cabbing from Arequipa center to Yanahuara. There are cabs available for every place in Arequipa you want to visit from here. They are better than buses, and cheaper. Ice-cream sold by vendors is nice. Beware of scammers here.

Yanahuara viewpoint is great. It's easy accessible from the main square and only a short ride away with the Taxi. It should cost you something between 5 and 8 Soles, one way. I recommend you go there during sunset. The view is incredible. I liked the arch and the little market up there as well, but the highlight was the view over the city towards the illuminated volcano El Misti. The volcano definitely looks the best in the golden light, before the sun sets on the opposite side. Don't miss this spot when visiting Arequipa!

We walked to Yanahuara and it is beautiful view of volcano Misti, the mountains and the magnificent city of Arequipa. The church nearby with its detailed architecture was just a brilliant sight.

After enjoing the nice view of the city of Arequipa, I walked to the square in Yanahuara and took my shoes off and relaxed a little bit...
Then, great surprise, a man wearing an uniform came and told me I could not stay there without shoes...
Of course, that is the logic in countries like Peru, where they are more concerned about people wearing no shoes than about people getting robbed by fake taxis...

This is the point where you can see all three of the volcanoes that surround the area, misty, chichi I and picchu picchu. Nothing to dislike, got lots of photographs.
