This was an excellent service. we didn't see the point in travelling backwards from Cusco to Puno via Arequipa to visit Colca Canyon, so booked the over the Andes service from Cusco to Chivay, then onwards to Arequipa. It was such a good journey helped in a big way by Oscar the guide. He made it so interesting and enjoyable. Pedro the driver was very competent and safe. they provide water and snacks and stop at a really good restaurant for lunch. Along the way they regularly do toilet stops. We stopped at the best view points for photos, fed the Biscacha (like wild rabbits) their carrots, threw bread out to the stray dogs who were waiting for Oscars treats. It was most enjoyable and fun.We stayed 2 nights in Chivay, then caught the 4M bus from Chivay to Arequipa. This shorter journey was equally enjoyable with a great guide called Leandro. Highly recommend this service and route to visit Colca Canyon.Well done 4M.

I took 4M from Puno to Chivay and didn´t know what to expect. I hadn't read TA reviews actually beforehand and am surprised to see their overall review score so low. I used 4M because the reliable local companies I've used before don´t do this route. I loved that we stopped to learn more and take photos. They were on time both leaving Puno and getting to Chivay (arrived early which was awesome!). The best was their staff, however. Henry, the driver, was great. He was friendly and drove very very safely and his bus was immaculate. I sat in the front seat so I had a great view of his driving the whole time. Even better than Henry was Susana. She went out of her way to help me both book a trip with them from Chivay to Arequipa and making sure I got to my hotel with my luggage safely. This is low season and there were only 3 of us on the bus. She really could have just not given it her all since there were so few customers but you would have thought she had 50 people on board the way she gave us the overview of the land, the history, etc. etc. Might be a little more expensive but some bus lines in Peru have abysmal safety records. I'd rather pay more and get there safely and not have to worry about my luggage. A sincere thanks to Susana for going above and beyond helping me with my luggage!

We had a very good experience with 4M. We were picked up promptly at 6:00am from our hotel in Puno and began our journey to Arequipa. We made a couple stops along the way for bathrooms and picture breaks. We were also given a small water bottle as well as tea, coffee, and a sandwich. On the second leg of the transfer we were put in a smaller van to Arequipa, while the remainder of the large coach went to Chivay. In terms of customer service they were very helpful throughout the process as well.

We used the „touristic service“ by 4M from Chivay to Cusco for 75 USD each. The trip started at 6.15 am and we arrived in Cusco at 4 pm.
Unfortunately the trip is not as nice as described on the 4M website (the nice pictures in their gallery are fake).
The „bus“ is a Mercedes Sprinter where 13 tourists +driver + guide are squeezed in. That setup might be comfortable for a 3 hour ride but not for 9.5 hours!
The stops are ridiculous and take about 5 min (take your picture - ok, let’s go). The longest stop is the stop after 1.5 hours where everybody buys sandwiches. At this stop you also realize that you were heading the whole time southwards while Cusco is in the north (???). Lunch break was just shipped.
To cut a long story short: You sit for >9 hours in an uncomfortable bus.

Well... we survived, and that is one positive thing. This ride was a hair short of horrifying. The driver was passing on blind curves with double yellow lines the entire trip. I have never felt more unsafe in my life. The bad news is that I don’t know how else you could make the trip from Chivay to Arequipa (we came by bus to CHivay from Puno).
Moreover, the driver, other than being a horrible driver and seemingly not to care about our safety at all, was a complete jerk to the passengers. His opening comment on the duration was “so you not hear me”, and closing was “everybody, get out”. Not that anything was needed in between (other than ‘you could quite possibly die today’), but the beginning and closing were it, and he simply was a jerk. Oh, and if I didn’t mention enough, he was horrible driver who should not driver passengers - ever.

I had a ride from Puno - Chivay, and then Chivay to Arequipa. The guide speaks very good english, and the stops were beautiful too. Their sandwich was very tasty too. Also the transport was very punctual.

The trip was very well organized, which is even more amazing considering the fact that there is no real alternative for this route. Freddy is a chill driver. Oscar is a fantastic host and had some interesting facts to share. The stops were amazing. Van was in excellent shape. Oscar even arranged a taxi to our hostel. Definitely worth the money!

I took the bus from Chivay to Cusco - it probably saved me at least 6 hours of travel time (instead of bussing to Arequipa from Chivay then Arequipa to Cusco). There was one solo driver for the entire 9 hour drive. He spoke only Spanish, explaining slowly and gesticulating enough that I, with very little Spanish knowledge and simply a French background, could understand the majority of what he was saying. The seats were not super comfortable, they were small and hard and did not recline very far. There is no wifi on the bus, there is no bathroom. However, we made sufficient stops (both at actual gas stations and in nature) that I could pee when I needed to.
Overall this service is definitely overpriced for what you get, but for me it was worth it to save time getting to Cusco.

We chose to use 4M between Chivay and Cusco in order to avoid an overnight bus though the mountains, and to get a safe day-trip experience. Paying top-dollar (65usd pp) compared to the alternative (day-bus for 30soles pp from Arequipa), we expected quality.
A guide, Oskar, was included. He was good!
The driver took some really serious risks in overtaking, driving that I have never experienced before (after 38 countries travelled).
Among the following:
1) Overtaking a truck already overtaking another truck, in a blind uphill section of the highway.
2) in 100km/h, going into a blind 90deg turn while overtaking another truck. Even the guide yelled to the driver....
3) generally speeding above 100km/h, probably to catch up time lost due to being stuck at a road work for 30min.
By all means, 4M is probably a good service, but don't expect a "better" service than what's publically available on the same routes for much less $$.
Traveling in Peru for 4 weeks, without doubt, that was our worst driving experience.

For a country with an unbelievably huge amount of bus companies, it's surprisingly hard to find a connection between Cabanaconde / Chivay (read Colca canyon) and Puno. After talking to the locals we chose 4M and thought we'd made a good deal since they were the only company offering a nonstop bus ride without the touristic stops and a "guide". We paid only half of the touristy bus (25 instead of 50 USD). When the bus arrived in Chivay they told both groups (touristy and non-touristy bus) to get . When we asked about it, they said that there is only one bus.
So you basically only have the choice of paying 25 or 50 USD for a bus ride with three dreadful stops and occasionally voice over from the guide sitting on the bus.
Apart from that, the bus itself was comfortable and on time.
